Hi Darkins,

I'm not entirely sure the problem you are having, could you post a screenshot so I can help you further? Thanks!

Having the exact same issue, connecting from comcast in Salem MA.  That screenshot could be me.  Very sad.

Spent way too much of my day and much of the night yesterday on the game.  Can't connect today, tried from several browsers.

Still the same issue -- all servers show live, can't log into any.  "connecting to server."

Hmm... firefox now says:  Java Deployment Toolkit 7.0.450.18 10.45.2.18 NPRuntime Script Plug-in Library for Java™ Deploy

known to be vulnerable, Use with caution.

It's marked "Ask to Activate" with no option to always activate.  Eldevin doesn't give it a popup to ask to activate it.

Could this be what changed?  My adobe java test says my Java is current, but the browser thinks the current version has vulnerabilities, and y'all aren't triggering an ask-to-activate?

(may I say, java in a browser sucks.  I love y'all but ech.  I'm a security/privacy consultant and I run this in an off browser sandbox, but most people will not -- NO ONE should run java turned on in their browser without sandboxing it.)

There's no other practical way to protect users from this sort of exploit and its cousins.  People should run your game in a virtual machine.  It's just not responsible for you to recommend otherwise, although it ups your technical requirements, and most of your users won't know that or know how to fix it.

recommended.

Consider your liabilities.  <smile>  Not the legal ones, just the PR.  It's a reputation economy after all.   Which is why I'm saying this in a tiny off thread rather than making some huge stink about it in the main forums, yes?  Your business if you do the right thing or not.  I'm not some slimy gray hat.

@Veridic -- if I had a problem that were covered in the pinned topic, I wouldn't have started a thread.  Thanks for playing. ;)

Besides, I played for a full day-ish and created my three alts before this started happening.  Seems unlikely there would be any of the FAQ issues involved, eh?

Perhaps there's a build issue on the HC side?  There should be some clue there for them.  Because they are likely pushing out java code dynamically as people connect, the times that the other poster and I had our issues might be relevant -- there's a moderate amount of information here we're trying to pump into the system.

I am a network engineer.  I've run tech support groups since 1979.  I checked to see if it was plugged in.  I even ran it outside of the virtual machine to see if that were the issue.  Still no go.  I suspect there is an issue that is not covered by the FAQ.  Unable to play for the third day now.

Really, it is a heroic effort for anyone to get a game to run on every machine out there (trust me, as the former executive director of the Tor Project, I can attest...)   At least with a game, if you push out a bad release, people don't literally die or get tortured.  They just bitch like it.  :)

So although I'm griping, I support and empathize with the pain and war-room scramble these folks are likely going through this week. Their pain is far worse than mine!  /salute!

Just saying it's written in Java and nothing else so there's almost no way we could ever rewrite it in something else. We might as well start from scratch.

Java has been improving security over the last year since that article that you linked which I would consider outdated. Java has become far more strict in what it allows to run nowadays. It displays warnings for unsigned content and now requires a manifest to be present in your jar file.

If you cannot connect can you post your Java console log. Are you confident Java is not blocked from making network connections?
