Not really a big deal, but it seems a bit silly how weaving cloth goes under the same category for skill as growing crops and tending farm animals.

I second this. They are fairly different skill sets.

Possibly 50% farming / 50% tailoring xp, simply for balancing. Same concept should be applied with the rack for LW / Skinning, and the forge for BS / WS / Mining (33% xp each).

 I disagree.

Following this logic the intermediate step of tanning should give leatherworking experience?

I value the skinning/farming exp.  This change would make me grind more skinning every level to keep up with my character level.

 I disagree.

I value the skinning/farming exp.  This change would make me grind more skinning every level to keep up with my character level.

I have been getting 30xp per skin, plus extra skinning xp on the tanner rack. My skinning level is 12 while my leatherworking level is 6. Not to mention I often get a lot more tattered hide than I do animal hide, so I often end up selling or deleting the extra tattered hide I'll never need (fighting level 8 creatures). Also, my character level is 12 because of all the skinning, and I still have dozens of level 8-11 quests in my log that I haven't touched. Sorry, but leveling just isn't scaled that well given the facts.

Professions at lower levels should not be this grindy unless there is great reward. I quested in The Barren Trails and farmed Boondocks for a few runs and came out with my full Azraq set with exception to helm. I'm sure you are familiar with the level 5-10 chain quest that leads to the orange weapon as well, which is gained with absolutely no effort what-so-ever. Yet with professions, you are sinking hours of time into them and there is very, very little reward at the lower levels that can be beaten simply by questing (the easiest questing I've seen in any game for that matter).

With all this in perspective halving the skinning xp from tanning racks and adding some leatherworking xp as well is not too much to ask for. In fact, it's asking very little. I'd also like to ask for rare recipes to be added through mob drops within ALL tiers of the game to at least compensate a little for the enormous grind.

I think the idea here is to make the materials more valuable.  In other words, even tattered leather is worth considering buying.  If everything worked as suggested it would devalue the raw materials, especially the lower level items.

I think we should all come to a decision as to what makes a better playing experience. For me, going out farming low level leather to sell to people doesn't sound that fun. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe anyone reading this would enjoy it, especially when they could level to 40 with ease, without ever touching professions. And at that level, there are much more valuable drops that make farming lower level anything pointless.

On the other hand, if the crafting professions were made easier to level, more purple quality items were added, and actual character xp was knocked off from gathering / crafting (or an option to turn off character xp while gathering / crafted was given), the player would be able to actually put the gear they've made to use instead of always being over-leveled or finding themselves in a situation where crafting is literally leveling them to 40. At least I find myself over-leveled for the quests I have.

I've written more on this topic in more detail if anyone is looking for clarity as to what I'm talking about - http://forums.hunted...showtopic=60161

I would agree it needs to be Tailoring XP. I already get enough Farming xp with gathering wool for Tailoring to keep up. But my Tailoring is lagging way behind my level and Farming level.

As I level I'm seeing this more myself.  Seems there are two things a person could do (besides bite the bullet, of course).  Level two characters at the same time, so their gathering can supplement each other.  Or you can buy the additional materials.

Very few if any people (besides me) would be interested in the first option.  So let's forget that.

Buying the added materials requires a vibrant economy and a player market of some sort.  This is the best solution.  I believe we have enough players to get the economy started, but it seems the market won't be here anytime soon.  So in the meantime it seems we do need to address this, even with a second best solution.  Either the split XP, or just more XP for crafting.

Interesting side note that cooking and alchemy seem to have the reverse issue.  Wonder how JC, armor, and WS are doing?
