Record PvP kills as most damage dealt rather than final hit

This suggestion is regarding how a "kill" is earned in a pvp game.

 

Current way of earning a pvp kill:

 

- Get the last hit on a target.

 

My suggested change for this:

 

- The person who dealt the most damage to the target is awarded the kill.

 

This shows a much more "real" K/D rather than the current system. I've seen low levels standing around waiting for other players to take a player to very low hp and then using burst damage to steal a kill, this is primarily mages using ignite to reap in the kills but other classes can use burst abilities to their advantage aswell. The current system is flawed in my opinion.

YES! So annoying to ambush a player smash them for like 95% HP then someone come along and throw one range hit and take the kill  :(

 

As a Warrior I hate the current system.

Although I benefit more from the current system at my level, I agree with you Neon.

This happens in just about every game I have played with PvP... Killing Blow gets the kill.. And I have always hated that crap... So +1,000,000 From me on this one... Even though I am not doing PvP on here...

HUGE yes from me. I think my kill count would go from like 4 - 5 if this were the case.

 

Seriously though, it does make sense and when things are balanced a bit more and I have the time to enjoy PvP a bit more I would like it to be this way...

A yes from me, I'm not level 40 or anything and I don't pvp all that often, but Neons idea seems very logical.

Would be cool if we could get some feedback regarding this since it seems no one openly disagrees with the change.

 

We did pvp today and mage is still by far the best class at getting kills. This suggestion needs to be implemented to make pvp fair.

As a mage, I love stealing last hits with incinerate. :)

 

But it is unfair on everyone else. Would be cool if it could get changed.

Yeah squeak will back this up, out of his kills here maybe 12/19 were gained by getting in the last hit after another player had already dealt the majority of damage. It is not fair in the current system! and is starting to put me off even bothering with pvp.

Both ranged and Mages take advantage of their fast paced and ranged abilities to steal kills. Not to mention low lvls standing around waiting for last hit.

I agree it needs changed, but this is hardly an accurate representation of a normal game. 4 of their team left within 2 minutes, and the last 8 minutes were spent fighting 5v1. I had hoped I might be able to get the 35 kills in a row achievement, so I was stealing EVERY last hit on purpose.

But the simple fact that I can consistently steal every last hit if I want to is wrong.

With this suggestion i would also add a KDA ratio not just a KD

 

So you get an Assist for doing at least 5/10% (or for healer when healing while a certain amount of damage is done while the attacker kills the other) of the dmg done and the kill for highest % done

Of course Squeaky bum! but it actually shows the need for change more than a balanced match would I reckon. As any of us could of got the easy kills in this one, but getting in with the last hits clearly shows how unfair it is  :D

This is pretty much only unfair if you group up solo and end up with greedy little kids (like all of you  :D). Once it will be more premade team based/guildbased, you will work together instead of always trying to get the kills.

Now a noob question: Does the KD ratio do anything at all? Or just look pretty? Seems like you all got the same reward

Well I know that most "PvP players" aim for High K/D and W/L ratios, so those of us who mainly play for pvp (and others as well) have something to keep working on.

 

Think of it like gaining extra exp in a professions for ranking on the high-scores, or achievement points.. they're useless things but they matter to some people.

 

Also I wouldn't rule out Zorg & Co adding some sort of PvP highscores.

 

As for pre-made teams, yes you may be right. But that will only apply to competitive play, the main playerbase and playtime that is invested in PvP will come from "public games" with randoms.

 

EDIT (again):

 

Yes the K/D ratio (in TDM games) determines how much EXP & Valor points you get, so it does actually change it to some small extent.

That and points healed. Repairing damage should be as valued as damage dealing. Not reflected in kills, but in points awarded at the end of the match.
