Hi-

I just have a question about allocating attributes and the six different skills. My question is: Is it better to stick with attributes that directly are used by a specific class, or--keeping that in mind--also adding extra points to the other attributes as well?

For example, I chose the assassin class and I came up with the following allocation pattern. For every 2 levels (12 points), I allocate +3 (2x), +2 (2x), +1 (2x) in each attribute according to usefulness to the class. I'm wondering if this would be worth doing though, since I'm not exactly 'experienced' yet.

So, essentially what I'm asking is: Is it worth it to use all of the attributes or just stick to a select few that affect the class. I'm thinking it might be easier to survive if I divided them as I explained in the above example. I guess then one could argue that with groups, it would probably be better to stick to certain attributes. I'm kind of iffy on this.

Thanks.

Of Melee, Ranged, and Sorcery, choose only one and ignore the other two completely.

(With every level that you get those 6 free points, you also get 6 points that are automatically allocated into all six attributes. So at level 32 I have 32 points in Melee and in Sorcery even though I've never put any points into those.)

Vitality, Energy, and Focus are kind of up to debate on how important they are, also it can change in future game updates how much effect they have. It seems to be a popular move to ignore those completely and put all of your points into Melee/Ranged/Sorcery and it's a completely viable way to play until higher levels. At least if you're an Assassin/Ranger/Warrior/Mage, I'm not sure about Templars and Prophets.

I did a respec recently and put most points into Ranged (I'm a ranger), then of the points that were left put most into Vitality, then the rest into Energy, and some remaining points into Focus.

It seems obvious that you need Vitality for not dying, Energy for not running out of mana, and Focus for accuracy, but if you put truckloads of points into your attack power (Melee/Ranged/Sorcery) then 1) your opponents will die sooner than you do 2) you need less mana to do more damage 3) you may have less accurate hits and less critical hits but maybe overall you're still doing more damage with every hit.

I'm not sure what the exact balance should be, some other players probably know better about this stuff than I do.

I have tried both a melee only and a melee/focus (4/2 and 5/1) split build for assassin.

In my opinion the full melee setup was the way to go to have that constant high hit.

solo play the only real issue was against large groups of ranged mobs and some hard hitting bosses. But with a bit of strategy i made it through them all.

really its up to you, and what you feel comfortable with.

IMO, 5 in damage of your choice and 1 in vitality is the way to go.  That 1 in vitality will help in your survivability against bosses as well as give tanks a better chance of maintaining aggro.  Focus is currently not worth it.  Gear alone should give you enough accuracy and the additional crit chance does not make up for the overall loss in damage.  Each class has mana regen talents that make putting points in Energy unnecessary.
