Assassins lack usable aoe skills and die very quickly. ........

Additionally, they don't have any unique ability that makes them essential for group play...

I agree for this two statements. This is the biggest concern for assassin.

People tell me they have the best DOTs and single target DPS, but is that really true?

This one is true (if you take the proper skill-tree).

- Talented Blind (AOE Damage amplification)

- 1 Talent point in poison stacks (Damage amplification)

- Among the best single target DPS

Based on my previous tests with Vicious Poison, the damage amplification will only apply to other players who have at least one point in Vicious Poison. Similar to Vindicate, it is a self-only damage amp, unlike Shock Trauma, which is a global damage amp.

Not sure if this was changed sometime between when you tested it, Neon, and when I tested it.

Im not saying the DPS, assassins clearly have better dot than other classes.

So yes, for a single boss or pvp, assassin is good.

My point is, it lacks the sense of usefulness in group, in particularly when you face a lot of mob, assassin is nowhere close to warrior in terms of aoe damage. Putting Blind skill aside, assassin doesnt have other significant role in the group, thus warrior is more a logical option.

In paper, assassin normally could compensate this shortage by getting less damage (dodge+health steal over time), in other words, it executes less damages and receives also less damage. Their role is then inbetween warrior and tank, something like holder. However yeah, the dodge cap is very low, around 35% from 1 passive (15%) and 1 active skill (20%), so imo this is currently not actually a viable option.

Note: Getting the same value of dodge bonus in evasion skill either by using medium or heavy armor is beyond me ;)

The other way around to make assassins more useful is by adding some area weakening skill (e.g.: buff a skill like chemistry into some sort of area skill). In this way, assassin role became a weakener.

I shouldnt say the word 'cap' in there ;) and I also forgot the other active skill. So basically 1 passive and 2 active, with 15%+20%+20% respectively. It lasts for 10s (phantom) and 12s (concealed) with cd of 45s and 60s.

Thus, im still adamant that assassin is only good for assassin themself and offer limited role in group.

There's 2 x 20% dodge buffs, hence the 55% dodge for spell and range.  Concealed and Swift Stride.

Anyway, why is assassin considered squishy, when they typically wear the same gear as warrior?  Warriors should be squisher then since they have all that aoe damage and pulls aggro alot while spinning = they cant run away.

I am an assasin from day 1 in Eldevin. I have seen how other class fight mobs or bosses  as I progress through the levels.

When comes to mob, assasins need more strategy to deal with it. Sometimes at risk of being overrun. In Garai Palace, i have seen a warrior class (same level as me) running around freely, drawing a bunch of mummies and blow them out at once. While I have to take them out one by one with caution.

Skill tree are limited as you progress in dual-wield, just look at the scroll book and see how many skills are for dual-wielded.

But when come to one on one. I have confidant in taking out a lesser Unasagi with a stamina potion and a HP pot by myself even with unbuffed armor. At level 26, I can take out cursed lich without help. At level 28, I can one on one with Oakenbranch.

This topic is true for assasins.

We are kind of loners.

We don't compliment others in a group.

I hope game maker can improve on this

I have been sin since day one and have never felt out of place in a group. Sins are not needed in a group but they are very helpful. Unless for some reason your sin build does not include shock trauma. That addition alone i would want a sin in my group if i wasn't one. Then there is bleeds on bosses to drop them quicker too.

Naked pirate will be back!

1. The medium-armor assassin is squishy, the heavy-armor one isnt.

2. The dodge buff lasts only for a limited time.

After lvl 35 sins can aoe grind too. Well i managed to anyway. Need shock trauma and watch your step maxed. Then blind/spires/run/soul fire/blind/spires/run that combo took out pretty much anything at lvl for me from 35 onwards. Granted its not anywhere near as good as other classes, but it is possible.

They are great, just need to learn the class

+1

Sure, it's about timing.  I dodged Level 45 boss' 1 hit kill skill 11 times in a row.  And timing dodge saved me at least 500 gold in repairs as a ranger in just 2 weeks of dungeon runs.
