My number one goal right now is to upgrade my max stam so I can comfortably hunt once a week without spilling. As far as I can tell, with my average gain being less than 100/hr, that's going to be roughly 14-15k max stamina. So I need gold and fsp to continue upgrading that. Then I want to max out my stam and xp gain upgrades and reevaluate my max stam to keep it at hunting once a week. Therefore, more gold and fsp needed. I also want to upgrade backpack slots to help out my guild. More gold/fsp needed here too. I'd like to continue paying guild taxes and donate as much gold as possible. So if Sacrifice is butchering the amount of gold I get, is it really helpful for me? I've been told by a couple veteran players that I should avoid Sacrifice like the plague. But I'm thinking, if I get to a higher level faster, then I'll be able to get to a point where I'm bringing in more gold sooner. So I'm torn. Do I use Sacrifice or not?

Ok. Why though? How does getting xp without getting gold benefit me with the goals that I have? Is there something I'm not taking into account?

gold is easy to obtain - selling fsp, merchanting, bounty hunting, etc.

best, fastest way to obtain xp is by killing critters

edit: apologies - I'm giving short, bullet-point answers that could be more drawn out with a lot more wording.

Ok. I hear you. Seems like the easiest way to get gold is still by killing creatures though. It's a pretty good profit margin and the taxes go straight into the guild. If my goal is gold for upgrades, wouldn't it make sense to hunt creatures AND do the other stuff too?

some will argue with you there - if you are of a certain mind-set, search the players in your range carrying a lot of gold and attack them for profit, for example

---- :) how refreshing to have someone come to forum excited about the game in it's present form----

your guild is lucky to have you there. i'm sure they're happy to have an active player, concerned about helping the guild and not themselves. i wouldn't believe they're stressing about you not helping "fast enough".

(you don't have to use sacrifice every time you hunt)

Ahh the myth that higher levels get more gold. Let me share some facts with you, using our current levels (you at 503, me at 1690).

Level 503: Ralthien Heavy Spearman - Gold: 273 - 327
Level 1690: Syroth Skull Taker - Gold: 178 - 222
As you can see, you actually get more gold per kill at your level than I do. Gold per kill drops off after level 1600. You have a bit of a way to go to get there yes, but just wanted you to have that info.

If you're needing the gold to upgrade, hunt without Sacrifice. Get those upgrades done, and then you can use Sacrifice if you want. Alternatively, you can only use it occasionally, such as if you're going to use an Epic Adept Learner / Librarian / Conserve potion, and want to squeeze every bit of XP out of your stamina as possible.

Personally, I rarely use it. I like my gold, and I'm still upgrading my max stamina, forging equipment, etc.

It's your choice of course, but the above info is something to consider when making your decision.

Excellent points!

Very true. PvP for profit would work nicely, but it isn't really my style. I'm more likely to occasionally search for noobs online and give them 10k gold because I'm out of deposits for the day.

Thanks for the compliments duktayp.

cyrus7, I had no idea that gold drops didn't just keep increasing. Good to know! Thanks!

So far, the conclusion that I'm coming to is that based on my goals, I'm more interested in what I can do with gold/fsp than absolute xp. I'm 2nd in my month and my top 10 status isn't changing any time soon as long as I stay active. I've gotten to 500 in less than 11 months of playing (without Sacrifice). I suppose I'll keep hunting normally most of the time unless there's a special situation like double xp, trying to get an edge for titan hunting, or trying to get out of range of a PvP player. Besides hunting, maybe the best thing I can do for gold (based on my playing style) is to get more backpack slots, buy in bulk at low prices, and sell higher.

I'm always up for more information or opinions, but so far, this has been a big help. Thanks guys!

Your optimal answer really depends on what other sources of income you have. I used sacrifice until I got sufficiently close to EOC to decide I didn't need the Xp boost, but felt sufficienlty guilty about the loss of guild tax that I'd donate extra to the guild, so upgrades became much slower. I funded those upgrades largely through the FSP offers (supplemented by the occassional windfall in the AH), but then, I only got to level 350 in my first year.

Just to add a bit of detail to Cyrus' point:average gold drops decrease very slightly in the 300s, and then stays constant until the low 1600s when it drops suddenly (until somewhere, I think, in the 1800s when it returns to you current level). The reason the "myth" about more gold at higher levels exists is really because higher level players tend to have more stam: so they have longer hunts for the same investment in pots/buffs, and manage to keep a higher percentage of their hunted gold. So gold gain does go up, but that is due to upgrades, not level.

In my entire opinion, I used sacrifice once, and I got a fifth of the gold I norm ally got, and not really that much more experience, It's just not worth it.

You have a conundrum. $60 goes a long way in your situation.

Yep, what Rowbeth said is true. :)  I was going to include this info in my post too, but had something else pulling my attention so I cut it short lol.

You're leveling faster. A little less in gold now for more XP will net you way more gold later when you're not as pressed to net xp. That and you'll be getting to higher thresholds to sell buffs and more of them for cheap to avoid going into overflow.

Anyhow, long story short though, even if you're not rushing to get a more gold per kill.... you're opening more content, as well as variety of titans and other things to do.

It's just a matter of what you're seeking to do. Is leveling up, or getting your upgrades quicker a higher priority to you?

Also, being in a guild that has titan hunters will also factor into this aspect greatly as well. As with being at a higher level you can then seekout secures on those titans, as titans above level 600 still have a decent price to their epics yet.

However.... in the short term leading up to the supposed XP event coming up somewhere in the next month, having more max stamina might be of a solid benefit to stockpile up stamina to use for it.... I'd say in the short term, sacrifice might be something to avoid, but during xp events, and at times when the goal is to get as high a level as you could, sacfifice is IMO a must.
