This topic is about the trend of developers locking topics. I've seen topics locked for two primary reasons: the first because of vitriol and arguing, the second because the topic is about something that the developers are not actively considering changing. This post is about the second of these two types of thread locks.

An example can be seen here: [http://forums.hunted...showtopic=65767]. The thread was made by a new player to ask a question about EP and to provide their opinion about it. Others also provided their opinions in a straightforward and respectful manner.

I implore the developers to not lock topics about desired changes - even ones which might be unpopular, either with players or with the developers. First, by locking the topic we are unable to see how many people are in agreement with the topic. Previously unthought of fixes for common problems might arise due to the topic being around. Second, people may feel as though they don't have a voice when these topics are locked. I understand that certain topics get repeated ad nauseam, but that's bound to happen - especially when we're all discussing the direction that we'd like to see the game go. That's kind of the beauty of playing a game from a small studio instead of from a giant corporation.

tl;dr: HCS, please don't lock topics just because you don't currently desire to make changes that are being discussed inside that thread. Open discussion is good for the community, and ultimately, the game.

PS: Please don't lock this topic.

I agree open discussion is important but I'm not sure what kind of discussion there'd be... but I bet it'd be controversial between the two sides anyways.

Even though posts have been respectful, it's bound to get ugly at one point...

Was probaly best locked early on in my opinion.

HCS reserves the right to lock threads as they see fit. They do not like grieving or topics which are anti-HCS.  I can certainly understand their reasoning for locking the threads as quickly as they do.  Such negativity only breeds more negativity and rather quickly at that.

It was a bit premature to lock the thread, but maybe unbeknownst to you, the topic of EP has been discussed many times before and HCS is firm on their standing.  I think Andrew (Hoofmaster) didn't want to beat a dead horse and decided to just lock it.

The "farewell" threads need to be removed, as they always are.  I understand wanting to let your acquaintances know that you've decided to leave, but there's no reason to make a thread about it.  Half the people that do make those sorts of threads are back within a week anyway.  If you're unhappy with any aspect of the game, message HCS directly.  They will address your concerns privately.  (This, of course, is not directed at the original poster. "You" is anyone reading this post.)

The only other threads that I've seen locked, besides rules on terms of service, are attacks against other players that are extremely abusive in language.  Those usually get locked and removed, as they should.  Unfortunately a lot of discussions render heated debate which in turn resorts to name calling and harassment.  The trolls under the bridge are just laying in wait and love to feed in to that.  That type of thread cannot be locked and removed fast enough.

In your example thread, the opening sentence reads "I am not a big fan of EP" and goes on about pay 2 win etc (the cost of the game).

Everyone agrees not to say anything negative, blah blah when you make your HCS account.

The end. Enjoy. :P

Thank you both for your comments.

I agree that this is the case. I was just wanting to suggest that there are benefits to having these discussions, even if they aren't apparent at the time. Yes, some people will troll or whine, but others are interested in coming up with changes (in this case, pay structures) that appeal to the most people.

I find that very limiting. Your interpretation of the terms is very draconian, and I guess we disagree about what a negative comment consists of. The devs have a bit of leeway in determining where the line is. I hope they are a bit more lenient about it than you are.

Ah sorry if that came across as my own opinion Zshmaendal, it was not. Was just showing the terms that cover talking about game costs.

I personally see nothing wrong with the thread you linked to, although it would probably of ended up as the same old pay2win or not argument.   :D
