many of the various forums i frequent require a certain minimum requirement criteria, before allowing someone to post, or sometimes even to reply

it appears as though fake-document-guy sees his posts are deleted, rolls his eyes and just uses a different e-mail address to create a new level 1 character and spams again

gotta admit, this guy is going for the Fake Document Co. employee of the month

Question is do people actually fall for that stuff?

Question is do people actually fall for that stuff?

Actually, the question is more "does that crap have any place in the game" ?

If the cows don't wanna appoint anyone to remove spam posts - and they've made it abundantly clear that they don't - then maybe having some sort of prerequisite posting requirements to the forums is a step forward.

Just leaving at is, saying "does anyone fall for it" isn't a solution. OK, the fake passport rubbish is one thing, but folk used to fall for the "visit my site for free fsp's" garbage all the time.

Adding in some prereq's for posting won't solve the problem entirely, but it may slow it down. After all, getting to Level 50 is pretty easy (as an example), but these spammers just want to create an account, post, and disappear - they don't want to have to "work" for the right to post their rubbish.

Just my 2c

We've had several new players post asking for help and they have received good advice and suggestions, as well as a sense of community.

Thus I'm against limits unless they're very low - like level 2 or 5 tops, and even then I'm not sure. It's been really nice to see new players posting asking questions and getting nice, helpful replies.

Regardless the spammer post do not cripple the game. It's a forum annoyance, and a bigger one for HCS than us probably, so I'm SURE they're discussing it and thinking about whether it's worth their time to deal with it more than they have.

I still like the use of a Report feature that would hide either a complete thread, if the player started one or a post until such time the Dev's have a chance to look at it. If a player is Reporting them just to be a jerk, then the Dev's can do with them as they will. No desginated Forum Mods can be around 24/7 -- all of us can do it with a report feature that hides the post and/or thread until reviewed.

If reporting a thread actually hid it, then yes, that would be the easiest and most efficient solution.

Perhaps different sections of the forums could have separate conditions?

For example setting a minimum level for regular forum posts, while allowing users to freely post in the  help sections from day one.

Of course this would still allow spam to be posted in the newby sections, but, at least it would be limited to that place only.

This would in turn allow it to be much more easily found and dealt with.

Simply giving any random user the ability to make a thread *go away* would open the door for drunken/rage induced vanishing threads, ones that don't actually deserve it.

False / Malicious reporting would be dealt with the same as in-game tho ? - or I'd certainly hope it would be.

Simple problem with that though Pard. Is that since day one users can use the forum, it'd be then terribly hard to stop someone creating a multi to simply make a thread they didn't like disappear.

That's always an option too :(

So, perhaps the "report thread" option could be limited to someone say, over Level 100, or 3 months in game or some other option or permutation.

Something needs to be done tho - leaving messages of that ilk active for so long represents the game badly :(

I think having conditions on posting like time played and/or levels gained with an exception to the newby forum, is a much better solution tbh.

True - reasonable point. What if you had to be ranked a Forum Veteran to have that ability? Granted drunken rage could still happen, but chances do diminish and there's enough of us perhaps or just X level in FS?

Just Brainstorming ..... hmm

..... (suddenly wants to see a Global Chat Mod go off on a drunken rage ... then I might actually LOOK at Global Chat)

Sorry - yes - didn't catch your post when I posted above. That would work. Though in reality doesn't need to be a lot of folks with the permission - fewer folks with that permission, the lesser chances of drunken rage mayhem

A kind of "Confirm that you're not a robot" when trying to post a thread will be good too.

I don't know if those posts are just a kind of very odd program.

Agreed! I really would like to find out more about these "FAKE ID's" It may be an exciting new arm of HCS that they are considering. Troll us first and see how many of us bite. Can I get a fake ID  as an upgrade to my exisitng ID ? I really dont want to be an organ donor .. and with a FAKE ID I could free myself from donor shaming.
