Hi gang,

 

If you've been paying attention either here or over on Eldevin's Facebook page, you'll have seen us teasing some screenshots of the game running in the new hardware client. Not only does the hardware client give much better performance overall, but it significantly improves the visuals as well.

 

We've not been as regular with that as we could have, and we'd like to apologise for that. We'd also like to make up for it by showing off more screenshots in this thread, on a regular basis, right up until we launch the hardware client, which we have scheduled for the week starting the 18th of August.  

 

Bear in mind that we're still putting the finishing touches to the engine, so all screenshots are from a work-in-progress build. 

 

Enough preamble though, on with the show. We'll start off with a new perspective on an old favourite - looking down on the Arcane Tower on the outskirts of Othalo, the first thing new players see on escaping the Void:

Following on from there, players head in to the Alphex Void, which although undeniably pretty at the moment, will look even better in a couple of weeks:

Hopefully that gives you some idea of how the game is shaping up to look. Stay tuned, because we'll be delivering new images every day from now until the hardware client is released.

This is excellent news, will the hardware acceleration be powered with OpenGL or DirectX?

Will you increase other characters rendering distance ? I mean will we be able to see other players from farther distance ?

It uses OpenGL.

Loving the visual update, hopefully It uses my GPU now. which is used to being abused ... lol. 

does this mean that now you can add melee strafing ..and ranged also...?

I'm really looking forward to this when I'm home.  Not so sure when I travel.

 

This has been asked before, but I don't remember seeing a definitive answer.  What happens to older machines that can barely play the game now?  Does this change the minimum requirements?  Is GPU required?  Can the enhanced graphics be disabled?

The software renderer is sticking around, so there will be a fallback option for the foreseeable future. However you'd need to have a really old graphics card for it not to be worth using, we've been testing on 4 or 5 year old low-end cards and the performance is always better than the software renderer.

 

Also in response to xpwaste, that would be really cool if we could, though no immediate plans to. I keep tapping spacebar expecting to jump now that the camera is down (even though you can't jump in Eldevin)  ;)

Hopefully you'll add some more snares..so that melee can keep ranged grouneded and not jumping around like bunnies.

Would also like to add that, disconnects are a major problem when jumping is added to the game... which means increased melee weapon range or something.. but that you'll work it out for sure i know.

Yes, it's that old :P.  I believe it has a GeForce 6200, though I don't recall for certain.  The machine itself goes back about 10 years give or take.
