Well, I haven't played the game for a long time, so, my question is about that "Break Down Items" thing. If I buy for instance "Vespine Amulet" in a shop and invent "Vespine Viper Amulet", the second one can be broken down and it's completely legal, right? I am asking because that way much more items can be broken down in one hunt.

Bound items and items bought in shops cannot be broken down but all other equippable items can be broken down :)

I know that "Vespine Viper Amulet" can be broken down. It can be invented with "Vespine Amulet" (a shop item) and Elya Snake head (resource, that drops like crazy). Just want to be sure that it's ok.  ;)

Why wouldn't it be ok? If it works, then that's some smart thinking on your part.

Although since he is level 700+, wouldn't it be way more efficient killing 401+ mobs and get 3 frags per drop vs inventing from a purchase and a drop to get 1 frag?

I highly recommend reading the very awesome wiki article on composing. It even tells you where to find the bed 401-900 mob that exclusively drops commons.

Very little fragments coming from that :) better farm higher level items to break for fragments

Thank you, I've read that wiki article already - very useful (almost a rocket science! lol). It depends on what my target is - maybe it is breaking down more items / hunt. Now it's 4k-5k items per 18k, but I want like 14k-15k per one hunting session.

Don't use Doubler when you hunt.  More kills = more items to fragment although a much longer and very tedious way to hunt.

Screenshot everything!

4k-5k items / 16k stamina hunting session <- that's without Doubler. Distilled (150 lvl) FI1000, Reckoning200, LF1250, Conserve250, UB200.

Ouch, that's a lot of keyboard mashing. Since you did just come back, perhaps you're not aware of this, so I'll mention it.  Just like we have the Global Events that we just finished the other day where the rewards are chests of potions, we also have Global Events where the rewards are "frag stashes", which are chests of fragments, of all varieties. The frags from the event can keep the casual composer going for a while.

Ouch! I didn't know that. Thanks for the info!

I wouldn't "ouch" too hard. The frag stash chests will give you about 4k frags total (plus a small number of frags from creature drops along the way). If you are looking for 14k frags per hunt then these globals won't keep you going.

The clever thing awakum has spotted is the very different efficacy of RF and FI, which is what can give the 80% efficiency (frags/stam) he's found.

Unless I'm mistaken, though, the "Vespine Viper Amulet" is unique, whereas what most people are looking for is common frags

You are probably wondering how to get all the different frags so that you van make a potion. Like they stated above, once you get your quotas during a global frag event, you will get all the other frags to do you a long time (epic frags not including at this time). Until a global frag event shows up (which they are frequent) just concentrate on the common frags. There are formulas there in the suggested wiki article, that will aide you to cheaply farm composing xps :) How neccessary are common frags you ask? I just copied this from area where you break down items for frags

Total items in the game broken down: 8,723,922

My guess is about 90% of that total is fragged common items O.O

Players buy them, sell them, farm them and give them away yet you will never ever ever have enough common frags LOL

If you enjoy counting a 5 gallon bucket full of pennies then you will enjoy this

I hate counting pennies yet I did just reach comp level 24

Have fun ;)

Just a side-question, if I may ask one, now that so many players are present in this topic: could you please tell me what a "regular" price per common frag is nowadays?:)

I usually saw 44 frags per FSP (Egami's price) and 2K per frag (listed on a buyer bio).

There are also folks buying for as high as 7k per frag. The low end is 2k up to 7k. I buy at a strict 2.5k so it's sometimes painful when is see someone sell a 3 frag item for 8k and I'm too cheap to spend the extra 500 gold
