I made this thread as just a quick vent thread/output of my own personal thoughts of adding more servers.
It has its pros and cons, some of the pros are lag will be reduced a lot more and the game will look bigger than it actually is with all of them there and about 100-200 people on each server, steam players will see this and think ''Damn this really is the next runescape!!''
some of the cons are current friendships will be split apart and the game will look bigger than it actually is but when someone logs in and sees only so many people on the server they'll be dissapointed
lag could also increase depending on how good of a server it is etc
anyway just put your thoughts here and stuff ig, it'd be nice to know of a community viewpoint on such a sudden decision that doesnt even have a forum thread yet
Pros and cons of more servers. (poll also)

I think more servers are ok as a temporary fix to deal with lag. You can't have new players quitting because of lag.
But its also a problem if a server can't handle 200-250+ people. I do think there are negative side effects of being split up from friends. It makes it more difficult for the handful of high levels to form world boss groups or dungeon runs.
I strongly encourage HCS to find another solution to the lag. If additional servers is necessary in the short term that is fine, but an mmorpg feels best with lots of people running around. Right now the worlds feel more empty.

So when I logged on this morning there were two new servers (5 total). Now I see there are two more (7 total). I thought the effects would be mostly felt by the high levels but the low levels are having trouble too.
The last few days it was so nice seeing all the low levels forming their own dungeon groups and not asking high levels for help.

But now they are having trouble...

While lag is certainly a major problem, not being able to find dungeon runs will also be discouraging to new players. It is imperative that a solution to lag be found in the programming and that the number of servers are reduced. As it is now, seven is far too many. At least go back to five.

So depending on how much the playerbase continues to grow, I am undecided. We may need more servers in the future, we may not. Honestly a "no" answer doesn't really help when you can't really forsee the future like what if 10k players play and only 3 servers? So that's why I'm undecided.
While I see we have seven now, that's just temporary. But I think HCS team ( from 3 servers), will add one server and so on if the playerbase grow.
And doesn't the F6 chat box only work on one server or across servers?

Yeah they've been added due to the lag problem. We'll try and optimize it this week as I really think it must be some minor code somewhere which is taking too long on the server, acting with what was upto 380 players on EU->Terra, so we'll try and find what's making get like that and we'd prefer to get more players on less servers so as not to be so split up of course, but as the lag was so bad no choice for now.

ugh ran out of likes once again so 'likes' ....
i voted undecided because I think there have been a lot of good point of views about the pros and cons already made so no point in my repeating what was said quite well by others.
so for me it's a wait and see and hope that whatever is the final result works out for the majority of players.
meanwhile I do enjoy not having as much lag and kind of look at my fl as I log on to see who may be on each serv.
I've tend not to stick to any one serv 100% of the time because I"ve met a lot of nice players from each server so feel like I don't want to choose just one serv to stick on. though guild system may have some of us end up playing more on one serv then another at times, I hope that I can enjoy whatever guild I am in and still have the freedom to play as I like.
maybe for the higher levels we could like find a way to find each other for dungeon runs etc. idk.
a forum thread to give heads up on or some such thing. no idea but sure there will be some new players who play in the ' I gotta max my levels super fast' and others that are more ' I'm going to take my time' so hopefully this brings more different levels together for those things we should have for groups/parties and need to have for groups/parties.
Slow but steady wins the race or something like that.
I'm just taking it slow, not sure about the steady.

i think 3 US and 3 EU is fine and if ever needed a 2nd oceanic, the only difference i would change on what is there is location, maybe one of the US for example could be closer to canada, and eg EU further apart -- upper/lower, to get better ping times for everyone, i wouldnt stop with the fact of having those and leaving things how they are as a few are still getting lag, get some fine tuning on those there or upgrading etc, if there is major tuning/upgrading that can be done then i would say 2 US / 2 EU and 1 oceanic is possibly a good middle ground, this type of game it is literally crucial to have no lag, if you are playing a pivotal role then everyone can die, if you are in a tournament u can fail out of your control which for most people often leads to rage especially when some only have so much time to get done what they wanna get done for the day, that is my thoughts, i dont think any deep thought goes into it from most players other than an overall online number, if a server number is over 100ish its fine and for size of the game INgame over 250ish is a lil crowded, text wall done...

Can someone explain to me how increased servers would split up friends ?
From what i understand, if you want to play with your friend you can simply join the server he or she plays on :| Like runescape has 100+ servers.
I think i should point out that i haven't played the game yet, still waiting for my post to be approved my a MOD so then i can get an answer on my thread i made concerning if any Asians experience lag.

Less servers = less resources. Imagine one server having 10 000 players (thumbs up for steam) -> You could never get your apples from the trees.

I dont know how you guys have it all setup over there. But would it be possible to scrap the 10000 servers (or however much it is now) and go for 2 servers, but keep paying similar to what you are now for the servers so we get incredible ones.
Then on those two servers have everyone play on one, and the other as a mirrored backup only incase of failure.
That would make the population seem much larger!
No idea if that is possible or feasible.
Oh and if people complain about lag/latency issues that is another issue. If I want to play with people though I always have to put up with it, it isnt that bad, this isnt like an FPS where you need microsecond responses...

I don't know much about computer. I think long time ago, I played a game that have different servers. After logging in different servers, I can still see the same players online and the servers only affect ping. But I'm not sure... Is this possible? but of course keep 3 original servers separate to prevent overcrowding.

I"m curious how much lag you experience being on the West coast when your on an East Coast server?
I"m on East coast and didn't realize those are East Coast servers.
I mostly have no problems on any of the servers ( my internet server isn't the top of the line so maybe it's my pc that can handle it. no idea, since it's like 5yrs old but the graphic card was replaced few years back with a good one. I have no idea what helps lag or not though. ) till the influx of steam users though the lag situation improved depending on what server and what time I play atm since we have more servers for now to be on.
