As many of you recall Runescape was easily the most popular browser mmo ever. However I, as well as many of you have realized Eldevin will be the new face of browser mmo's for years to come, if the devs are truely dedicated to the cause and listen to players and are willing to adapt and learn with us.

I've played Runescape since 2003 and quit in 2012 luckily before eoc for reasons related to changes of staffing and the overall direction of the company, since then i've looked for a new game to play..I've tried MANY and none come close to the POTENTIAL that this game possesses. Most dont have the skills like farming, herblore, seperate combat skills and the dedication required nor do they have the f2p and p2p aspects.

Think for a second...where did you start out in Runescape? You most likely played f2p for a couple months to a year before dedicating yourself to the game...obviously because f2p had restrictions...similar to how eldevin restricts your gold limit.

That is how you properly introduce a game to new players and this game possesses the potential to topple Runescape.

I just hope they update the faces... Oh, and the starting quest...I feel it would be more appropriate to introduce players to all the skills and combat styles first instead of how it is now.

RS3 surpasses Eld in every area that matters enough to get players and money.

It doesn't matter if you like Eld more than RS - millions of people have thrown their money at RS. HC is lucky if a thousand people throw money at Eld.

RS simply has too much publicity; Eld doesn't have a chance of surpassing it and HC is too slow to develop the game enough to ever surpass it.

Do note that as of now RS has remade the game in HTML5. This means that they can throw the game into the mobile market the moment smartphones are able to handle RS's memory, which will be any time now.

And if you think Eld beat RS by making a desktop version of the game, you're wrong: RS has had that for years and Jagex didn't need to go through Steam to do it.

I like this game but it will NEVER be able to surpass RS. Ever.

It will surpass rs. Its inevitable and to say it wont would be pure ignorance. Rs started the same way - unpopular and rough around the edges. And so does every game..its all about marketing. I promise you Eldvin will become better than rs. Especially considering the direction rs is heading

I like this game but it will NEVER be able to surpass RS. Ever.

Then just go play RS and stop your rants.

The small dev team have created a great game with minimal funds and programmers.

honestly I'm kind of over so much discussion about RS, we all havent' played that or want to. -_-

I know a lot of steam players seem to have come from RS but ugh, can we please stop all the comparison, what if's Hc should do this like RS etc etc.

I don't want this game to be whatever RS does or has.

I want Eld to be whatever it is or will be because it's this game, not looking at another game and then trying to satisfy RS players cuz they just came to a new game and find it's got some similarities.

I played two games previous to this that had similarities, it's one reason I ended up playing one of them for a couple of years after I stopped playing the other, however I didn't want it to be exactly the same and it wasn't.

Enjoy the game for what it is and yes make suggestions and have opinions but suddenly new players come along and because they played a game that is similar, been around longer and all that it's like HC is being poked at to make things like RS.

also thanks to HC your not getting censured on this forum like some game forums do when you mention other games by name.  Though I kind of wish everytime someone mentions RS there would be like a huge fart sound instead cuz frankly i'm kind of sick of seeing it, lol.  js and that's jmho

I"m just glad I'm not using steam and I won't go read steams forum because I'd rather stick to this one.

Slow but steady wins the race or something like that.

I'm just taking it slow, not sure about the steady.

I feel so sad that this is all true and have to agree with this.

I don't see why you're playing Eldevin over runescape then...go if you obviously think rs is better. What's keeping you here?

Players that play Eldevin see which is better and which is not. RS's community is absolutely crap. This can be even see by the players supporting rs on the eldevin forums. Like wtf?

Runescape has been around for over 10 years, no freaking crap it has a lot more players. Eldevin has been barely around for a year. Quit whining and play which you think is better.

The only thing I disagree with is the claim that I like RS more. I don't. I don't choose favorites. RS was great, it ruined itself with Mod Fatso taking over, and that's the end of the story.

Everything else you said was a reitteration of what I did.

RS is Eld's worst enemy, because it's its direct competitor in almost every fashion. Despite this, Eld will never be able to surpass RS. This isn't hate - it's fact.

And as far as "marketing" goes... lol really. Most people from the maps thread forgot the prologue trailer of the game, which was 240p detail when you select 480p. HC didn't market Eld at all right before placing it on Steam. I'm pretty sure HC will never be able to market Eld beyond RS.

<snip the rest for space>

Good post. I've never played RS. I tried it for a couple of hours, but it didn't do much for me and all the non-subscriber limitations were off-putting. I do subscribe to Eldevin when I play it primarily, but I like that I don't have to and aren't totally gimped for doing so.

I can play pretty much any mmo I want. I also play Tera, Neverwinter, STO, GW2, and a few more. I play Eldevin for what it is and what it offers. It's fun.

It matters to me that Eldevin has a native Linux desktop client. I really appreciate that. I hope that someday it will be offered as the Steam client as I haven't had good results using the Steam client through wine.

I have said this on many occasions. RS is a bit rubbish. It's for kids until you are about 12 or 13 and then you come here. Graphics there suck, movement sucks, concept sucks. There has been many posts about this long before the steamers showed up. You might want to search back and see all the comparisons.

RS = Really Silly

To compare this to RS is really just an insult to this game and a compliment to RS.

The only ones here that don't see this are the lower levels. All the high levels will disagree. Play the game until you hit 45 and then come back here. You will see exactly what I mean when you get into the higher dungeons, as well as arg and asv and end game pvp.

Now if you were comparing this to lotro, then I'd listen to the rants. But RS ? Not in your wildest dreams.

Graphics here suck, movement sucks, and the concept is a clone of about 100 other MMOs. Come on, Talent Trees? What is this, 2010?

Not everyone should have the face of an old person, base colors should have their shades consistent, and I'm doing the robot every time I take a step in this game.

Endgame is nothing but PvP massacres, just like every other game (including RS).

The ONLY thing this game has over other games is its quest dialogue, and nowadays most people just click through the dialogue anyway.

Eld will never surpass RS. It doesn't matter which one is better than the other in which areas - what matters is how many people the game is designed for, and RS is designed for a much, much larger range of people. Its "ease" is part of that, just like how all these so-called AAA console shooters are made to be easy. People don't want innovation, they want instant gratification, which is why RS turned into such a game, with the more you pay them the faster you get that gratification.

We think it's important to get involved in the community, hence we try and stay as active as possible on the forums :)

On the tutorial side, we shortened it a lot and also made it get into the action a lot quicker than the previous one. There is always room for more improvements, but I think it's much better now than it used to be for sure.

I think the faces in the game is definitely on the 'to improve' list as well.

I'm going to lock this thread now as it looks like it's going to descend into an argument over which game is better, but if you have any more suggestions on how you feel the game could be improved, please just post them on the suggestions forum here:

Cheers,

Hoof
