I would like to talk about  games of chance:

I was hosting a game of chance called Heads or Tails or H/T for short with the flip coin emote. Many people were enjoying the game, because it is a very entertaining game. Earlier today L3fty, a Dev told me that I was not allowed to host games of chance for the time being. Now I respect that of course because this is probably the first encounter with something like this and I just wanted to get it out in the public for people to see and for the dev team to see that this is ok for the game and could even help the game out!

Pros of having games of chance:

- It could boost EP purchasing

- It is a good way for relaxed entertainment when taking a break from questing/dunging

- Its a good way to excite up the eldevin square and get more people social

- It is a good way to move currencies around in the game

This game had many people enjoying themselves some people were betting and having a great time, while others just watched with entertainment. This adds a great new aspect to the game and something for more people to do with down time and extra money that they have, I think many people who played and havent played yet would love for games of chance to be allowed in eldavin.

My final statement is for the dev team. I am wondering why it is currently not allowed to play games of chance, I know many other games do it still to this game so I would not suspect that it is a legal problem, but what are the issues? L3fty told me he is uncertain of the reasons, but just that it is currently not allowed, and I understand because you haven't most likely researched into it much yet. If you could get back to me soon about this soon it would be much appreciated. Thank you!

P.S. there is also a poll on this so please vote if you would like to see games of chance in eldavin!

I'm pretty sure that "games of chance" legally is considered gambling. Online gambling brings a whole heck of a lot more problems for the developers and HCS in general as they are liable for certain items, including having to pay some fees along with the practice.

Many MMO's run into this issue, which is why most/if not all follow the practice of not allowing such games. I know there have been bans for players who did not follow the rules in prior MMO's I have played because of the same very item as you describe.

Edit: Didn't see poll, but didn't vote because I would vote no. Biased poll you have going on there.

Well the legality of it differs, in mmos it normally is never a problem like in runescape for instance. There is a mini game called the duel arena where you can "stake" money against each other in a gamble to see who wins the money. And you can purchase money in that game as well, and not only is gambling in the game but it is implementing by the dev team! So it definitely is not a matter of legality

I think that it wouldn't be a bad idea. I was watching other people who played it and they seemed to be having a fun time at it, win or lose. I'm not sure why it would be a problem honestly. It's their gold, I think they should be able to do what they want with it. Just my two cents ^.^

It still could be a matter of legality. It depends on how it is advertised, I believe, but by no means am I a lawyer. I'm not sure what the common practices are in the UK, but I guess Jagex did get it to work. However, they may have had to pay for it, or just ignored the legality piece of it. That works down to ethics, and if HCS does not support "games of chance (gambling)", it is their choice.

I would still vote no to allowing games of chance.

Plus some players have a gold limit and if they bet more then what their limit allows... this would cause problems.

It is there choice to ban games of chance then that is up to them, but I think once reviewed they will allow. And it is by no means illegal, I see it as if you do not wish to participate then you do not have to and it will not effect you personally whatsoever. But for the many of us who love the game and to participate and find much enjoyment in it, we would love to see it be allowed. There were many people around last night playing and watching and all found enjoyment, and hopefully they will see this post and share as well.

@spirit well that is where different methods come into play when somebody bets over their cap we can agree on a return of ep with a standard ratio of 2:1 (being 2g per 1ep)

Who's to say that you won't scam? that's the difference with staking in Runescape, coin flip is a player run games of chance.

Next will be people making mule accounts scamming and simply starting again.

EP sales might be boosted but also the players leaving will too, I've lost alot of friends over the years with gambling in games.

I like to gamble I buy chests from the store and I meet plenty of people that way.

I don't think the majority of players want this and you know it yourself by not putting a No option.

You might aswel make a Doubling money is legit thread too :)

I have nothing against you maxed just I don't want Eldevin getting wrecked.

The option to bet would be to the players choice obviously, just like lending an item or transfering something you trust the person. If you do not wish to trust the host then do not bet its that simple. I was trust worthy and everyone who was there could vouch for me paying out, it should be up to the people betting if they wanna play or not and if it should be allowed. It will only effect those playing and they should be allowed to if they would enjoy it. This is not a game where "getting rich" controls your characters outcome like in some games, so no losing some money or gaining will not cause an ultimate outcome for people it is just enjoyable. The dung gear is not even tradeable and many items are binded so its not like you would have to purchase the best gear in the game, this h/t game is for enjoyment by the players.

We do not allow games of chance in any of our games. Mostly it's because it's a whole mess of muddy waters and grey areas. What is legal in one country may not be legal in another country. It's not something we're prepared to get into. And (as Ant mentioned) it's also a ripe opportunity for scammers. What one person feels is fair another person may contact us demanding their money back, even if there's no actual dishonesty taking place.

We don't allow gambling in any of our games and that will not change in the near future.

You might not scam but it will eventually making it spread like wildfire and stupid people taken advantage of to try make a few EP.

I just like to create the opportunity for people to play a game like this because I know many people (like myself) have been looking for a game that has it integrated in a manner that is professional and made well like the coin flip. I know this forum may not currently reflect it, but i think many people would enjoy games of chance being allowed, I really hope you guys change your mind, I am really dissapointed that i had to currently stop hosting =\

I dont want games of chance.  In another game I played it blew up chat with too many people advertising it.  It leads to a huge problem of scams and legalities.  Leave eldevin alone.

I personally don't mind a certain amount of "gambling" in a game. I have played alot of games that have had sub-games built in that had a game of chance quality. That being said, there are always some people who will look for a way to scam others or cheat the system causing issues to those others and the game hosts. I would be in favor of some type(s) of mini games if there was strong controls built into it, and real life money couldn't be used directly or indirectly in its implementation.
