The fact that Hoof had to address forum rules as an issue leads me to believe there was foul play on BOTH ends. Lets try to forget and move on that try to prove ourselves innocent.

Look. Language is subjective. We are never going to get a set of 'rules' that are exhaustive enough to cover every possible situation.

You can put words in an order where every individual word is entirely 'reasonable' but the tone can appear to some readers as 'objectionable'. The moderators have to use subjective opinion to decide when those lines have been crossed. That is a difficult job to do consistently at the best of times.

The end result of looking for specific rules for every forum conflict is the creation of 'forum lawyers' who will spend threads arguing over why their arguments are appropriate, and the other guy's argument is offensive, using labyrinthine rules to prove his or her point. A total waste of mental and emotional energy.

Simpler to accept that the mods do their best, and people arguing will sometimes need to be put in a time out until they put their big girl and boy pants back on.

It was the inconsistency in the decision making that was the real issue hence Belaric's comment regarding language and behaviour tolerances being subjective. Now we only have Admins it should be fine One hopes :)

Addendum: I thank you Hoof and Co for making these forum rules and posting them for all to see as it should now clarify any murky or grey areas for all, nice one ;)

Hoof,

IT'S ABOUT TIME!

Too many players have already had their forum access terminated for simply opining what they felt was wrong with the game. That repulsion has grown into a major component of the problems the game faces. Rather then focus on the past, as a sign of good faith you need to start reinstating ALL forum access prohibitions immediately! This would start to restore faith in player's ability to contribute to the game. There are players who will never return but there are many you can reattract with what made this game so popular - inclusion.

Don't forget once players are allowed their opinions to be heard again you will need to continue to develop the game an a more consistent basis otherwise the same complaints will return and the game will be exactly where we are now!

GOOD LUCK

I think it's better if we can point players to specific rules and explain why there post isn't acceptable. Our aim isn't to find reason to ban people, but rather to ensure the forum stays a friendly, useful and civil place to discuss the various aspects of the game.

+1 to this. Thank you for posting this response. This is what I was looking for once I received warning points and had several posts deleted, but that's in the past. Time to move on, and hopefully we'll be able to get better feedback from both sides (HCS and players) to find out why they were in the wrong.

We appreciate the effort for this, and seeing that you guys are trying to put an effort into making the forums and FS a better place.

One general rule is to reread what you post BEFORE you hit the post button, and read it like its something someone sent to YOU.

If you find it hurtful, rude, upsetting etc, rewrite it into something more reasonable. ALL of us have had that time(s) that we have read a post and just simply reacted to it without really thinking about what we are writing....

A simple reread (or two lol) from another point of view may stop a lot of the flaming and rude comments.

Second general rule ... if someone is baiting you, don't act like a fish and get hooked lol. It's what they probably want you to do, so why on earth give them the satisfaction of knowing what they said got to you that badly....
