About Me

This actually unique watch features the movement of the TN but with a one-off tantalum case and blue dial, both borrowed from the fan-favorite Chronomètre Bleu. The watch is no more complicated than that, but it looks absolutely stunning. This, coupled with the fact that Only Watch is a charitable sale, makes for a truly valuable watch.Recorded face-to-face at the annual Oris preview event in Colorado, Jason and James catch up fireside after a tough day of skiing and looking at new watches (ie, not tough at all). From exploring the endless runs in Vail to failing to keep up with Oris CEO Rolf Studer, the guys had a solid morning before getting a sneak peek at what Oris has planned for the coming year (including one watch we can talk about repliki Richard Mille rm 07 now!).A two-tone case comprised of a pink-gold middle case and a white-gold bezel, caseback, and lugs, encapsulates AP's calibre 2948 Tourbillon Openworked. The philosophy behind utilizing multiple metals is to play up the architecture of the 11:59 case. It's finished using the same techniques that are usually applied to the finishing of AP's calibers, in terms of brushing, beveling, and polishing.Throughout the decades that we now define as "vintage," no brand was better at positioning their offerings with the air of ultimate cool. The Submariner could and should be used to plunge 1,000 feet into the cavernous deep ocean just the same as the Daytona should be used to time your Wednesday night practice lap at the track in Le Mans. The classic Rolex cool factor slapped me in the face when I saw this ref. 6263 sigma dial.I was about to live my Golden Rule and handle – in person – a watch I had considered purchasing online many a time. So what did I notice, and did anything change? Well, I was keenly aware of the size of the watch. Having already experienced the Liberty, the 37mm diameter was nothing new but it was different here. Because it had this sort of, to quote ShAnother interesting thing happened to me when I held it in my hand. The wow factor that I had figured would hit me like a bullet train, simply wasn't there. It could be that I had built up too much excitement and set my expectations too high, but something about the watch no longer felt magical. That is not to say that I didn't like it, though. In fact, everything I appreciated about it during my obsessive period remained true when I took temporary possession of it that day in my apartment.Meanwhile, the Chronomaster Valjoux 72 is a project of a different scale. If it keeps the story of the Valjoux 72 alive, keeping collectors curious and interested about this historically important chronograph movement, it's a worthy endeavor. Sure, $6,900 is a lot for an new watch with an old movement, but if it's not for you, there's a $450 Mecaquartz option.
Instead, I found a handful of occurrences that are, well, kinda silly – as in actually amusing. At least to me. I'm not saying they're wrong, or anyone involved in making them happen is wrong or misguided, it's just that conventional wisdom and reason might place a question mark in the margin next to them in the history books. Here are five silly things that happened in Hong Kong this week. The Take: If it's controversy you seek, look no further. The bund straThe bund strap has its roots in aviation. Remember the penguin footprints on the dial of the SRPG59K1? Or the manta rays on the "Save the Ocean" Special Edition King Turtle (SRPE39) and King Samurai (SRPE33)?4. Give some thought to how you will take your watch on cool trips:If you don't want to wear your watch while traveling, or if you roll with extra watches because they are your besties, you should get yourself a travel case. Yes, Hodinkee sells these, here is a really nice one, a leather travel tube in black, and here is a waxed canvas one that's a little less dear. The 5059P's case, crafted from platinum, measures 36mm in diameter, providing a balanced presence on the wrist. Its sleek, polished finish underscores the watch's high-end appeal. The complicated and beautifully finished movement is visible when one opens the hunter-style caseback, which includes a hinged caseback over a sapphire display.
That said, the basic design of the 7750 very much reflects its era, and the 01 is a thoroughly modern movement. Caliber B01 was the result of a five-year development process, during the course of which Breitling R&D took a long, careful look at the technically best-of-class chronograph movements out there, and when it wasCaliber: Breitling 01Functions: time, date, 3 register chronographDiameter: 30mmThickness: 7.2mmPower Reserve: 70 hoursWinding: automatic with hand-windingFrequency: 28,800 vphJewels: 47Chronometer Certified: yes; COSC Additional Details: column wheel, vertical clutch with self-centering reset hammersWhile I'm not convinced that a buyer who is planning to buy the above Zenith or Hublot might instead turn to the Carrera repliki Richard Mille rm 67 Heuer 02, I do believe there is a cohort out there with a taste for Hublot but on a TAG Heuer budget. Within that framework, the Carrera Heuer 02 feels well-positioned. Rather than being an elevated expression of the brand's more entry-level pieces, it functions as a range-topping design that reflects the aesthetic of other aspirational offerings from the luxury space.Price: Starting at $4,600 to $6,700 depending on the model. Journe manufacture also worth CHF 415,800? As magical as resonance might be, F.P. Journe has the watch set with a list price of $136,700, in 18k rose gold, and $140,000 in platinum. Are the bean counters at F.P. Journe's HQ that off-base when estimating the worth of their own product? Or is that what the watch should really be worth, and the auction prices are totally insane?Coco Chanel never got to see her empire expand beyond its origins of couture, fragrance and Byzantine costume jewels. But the legacy of the house and its pivotal role in women's fashion can usually always be traced back to its Rue Cambon roots – the sacred headquarters of the famed couturier.
