About Me
The Air-King Piaget Altiplano is one of the most well-known (and widely missed) Rolex models. Initially released in 1945 (along with the Datejust), this model (like every Rolex model) has seen several modifications over the decades, and this year is no different.Brand: Bell & RossModel: BR-X1 MilitaryDiameter: 45mm Case Material: HRT (khaki High-Resistance Titanium) and black ceramic with rubber insertsDial Color: Skeletonized InAll L2 versions use the ETA 2824 movement, which while basic is also very reliable and easy to get serviced. While many of you know of this movement, the 2824 offers time and date via 25 jewels, a frequency of 4 Hz, and a power reserve somewhere around 38 hours. Maurice de Mauriac is a family-operated watch brand based in Zurich and given their smaller scale and generally strong focus on design, the use of something like the ubiquitous ETA 2824 is to be expected. The Submariner is an endlessly impressive piece of kit. It's the world's most recognized piece of man jewelry. And it looks incredible on women. It's the go-anywhere, do-anything, king-of-the-hill dive watch. And I don't see that changing anytime soon.Regardless of how many you've seen on social media (or available for sale on the secondary market for about $300,000 right now), these are still really rare birds. One international retailer with a large number of points of sale told me that they've gotten less than a half dozen for clients. No one will probably ever know exactly how many were made – that's just not Rolex's style – but it's certainly not a lot. The only rarer modern Rolex I've ever seen was the Ruby Daytona.
For this trio of limited editions sold only online, the watch brand, which is enjoying a second Audemars Piguet Royal Oak youth, called on the talent of the very creative Romaric Andre to add his unparalleled touch to the dial of a legendary model.A scratch-resistant, highly transparent sapphire crystal with an antireflective coating contributes greatly to the crisp appearance of the immaculately finished dial, indexes, and hands.A day later, they arrived! The photos are from the early 2000s, and the watch has moved to a different family member, but it's very much alive and well.Luckily, my favorite from a design perspective is the most recent version. At a price premium of less than $1,000 more than a steel Fifty-Eight (even less if you compare against the versions on a steel bracelet), this feels like Tudor wanted to make something for Black Bay owners that maintained the base format but feels unique among the brand’s myriad dive watch options.
The rhodium-plated baton-type hour and minute hands in the middle are also Tudor Heritage Line coated with a luminescent material. And the size? This is a proper wrist-comfort sweetheart at 38mm with a 46mm lug-to-lug.This watch is, as the green ring model, also not inspired by a Moonwatch.Armed with a target frequency spectrum, APRP then went ahead and developed a group of innovations intended to make the resulting watch robust, water resistant, and with good volume, but also with very high quality sound.
