#927832 Sneak Preview: Teleport Skill

Posted by Belaric on 10 April 2015 - 08:22

I was intentionally vague because I was waiting to see feedback before making some decisions.

Teleport can be cast on anybody at level 175 if you max out the skill and Fury Caster. Buff Enhancer does not work on it.

A level 175 Teleport results in a 35 second cooldown.

The Temporal Beacon guild structure will reduce it by a further 2 seconds per level (up to 10 levels) so if your guild maxes out that structure it will be a 15 second cooldown. We have not finalized the cost / upkeep of this structure yet.

The enhancement Temporal Phase will decrease the cooldown by 1 second per 10%. So at 100% the enhancement will reduce the cooldown to 5 seconds.

Casting the buff costs 40 stamina and lasts 60 minutes and the buff does not reset when moving between realms. Teleporting always costs 1 stamina regardless of the distance and is not affected by light foot / gold foot although that doesn't rule out future equivalent buffs specifically for Teleport being added.

Teleport works on ALL realms, including those with Titans. We're hopeful the use of a buff such of this will level the playing field a bit with those abusing scripts / macros.

NO!

NO NO NO  NO!

Just to make myself clear.

You cannot create this buff to try to deter cheats.

It will only make cheats cheat in a new way.

And how does it help the playing field for people who are in young guilds starting out and who do not have:

2500 BUFFS?

In what way is this fair to players who do not have access to 2500 buffs??

You speak as if you know for a fact they exist.

LOL.  They might. But none of us here can ever prove it.

You got him/her there.

But I do not think english is his/her first language.

'for sure' is an easy tell for a non-native user of English

So. Let go of your gotcha (a contraction of english usage) and just listen to his/her point.

He /she also had multiple feelings about teleport and titan hunting. i.e .was conflicted.

And the poster also felt that some dark and Maze maps would be hard to reconcile with this new skill.

None of that adds up to an accusation.

At. All.

If this is allowed for titan hunting, this can be helpful for those with busy schedules since they can't stay up for 2-3 hrs for a secure. By using this buff, they might be able to secure a titan in less than an hour. And this will be good for health too, without having to sit infront of a pc/laptop for hours looking at the screen. Instead of stam saving, this buff should look more like a time saver. If we can move 2-3+ squares for 1 stam, why not name the buff as "Flying Carpet" ? :P

This is why this buff is a disastrous idea.

"'people with busy schedules can't stay up for 2-3 hrs for a secure"

Yes - lets make it easier for those people. The game should bow to them. Busy schedules - so important.

We should make it easier for folk who can only give an hour. maybe. Sometimes.

And it is good for their health! they don't have to sit in front of screens for too long to get their booty!

They want the secure fast, and at minimal risk to their health. They ignore everyone else who ever hunted titans before. Slowpokes who did not catch on to the revolution before it happened, no doubt.

This is an example of folk who want to arrive on a scene, dominate it, make profit, and leave.

Trust them at your peril.

#926002 Community's thought on another potion composing slot?

Posted by Belaric on 30 March 2015 - 13:59

My gut reaction is no.

It just seems like players wanting more free stuff.

And wanting something slow and boring made easier/quicker.

The usual.

Of course if an extra slot was introduced at 5 and I received it I'd not be sorry to have the extra slot and to compose that little bit faster. Human nature, LOL!

#925534 Update v2.66

Posted by Belaric on 27 March 2015 - 17:13

The Titan hunting is an ongoing issue I'm afraid. Zorg and Hoofmaster are gonna be crawling through it's code guts to fix it as soon as they can.

Aha. Ok. Thanks for the response. I hope they can find the issue and sort it.

I have long wondered if the Shadowlord is in fact some gnarly bit of code at the heart of the game that eats memory and makes huge demands on any servers it meets!

#924366 Current state of the game

Posted by Belaric on 21 March 2015 - 16:19

I would not be surprised if some of the 'new' servers of the past were actually cheaper servers or service providers that the HCS bean counters thought would be just fine.

It is all about the cash after all.

I, like many others here have spend huge amounts of time, and in the past, not inconsiderable amounts of money on this game. I'll admit to regretting the amount I spent. Like others, after a time I simply made the decision not to spend any more money here as it did not feel worth it. This was my first internet game also, and I have tried others and been unenthused. It is/was a good product.

But I agree it has been neglected, or at least feels neglected.

Maybe the mobile interface will save it, as I hoped, but as has been pointed out - there is no point getting mobile customers to log into a game that is dysfunctional. They will just walk away again. Mobile customers will not have much attention span for a game that does not work well on demand, every time. (I believe) The game platform needs to be stable, and the game needs to be consistently supported by the developers for new customers attracted by any new mobile interface to be encouraged to remain. And  spend cash.

I hate to say it HCS but I actively discourage new players coming into my guild from spending money on this game. Knowing from experience how much can be required, and how patience and graft can get you to similar places in the long run. You have managed to turn existing customers against you, and have, in my case at least, caused them to encourage other players not to help your bottom line. One for the bean counters to consider there.

The game may go into the sunset. Many have before. That will be a pity, but I guess I'll get a lot of free time back!!

And this morning, a cloudflare 504, a database failure to connect and something else that froze me out.  Right on cue. Sigh.

But despite all that - I still log in, and can still enjoy this game. It has provided me with years of interest. It is not all negative, but the current outlook is not so good. Thanks.

#924119 New Skills / Enhancements

Posted by Belaric on 19 March 2015 - 07:41

I had some ideas after thinking about game balance and challenge for higher level players.

Mostly as a result of being sick of hearing about how much easier it was for newbies etc.

Big deal.

I'd like it to be easier for newbies, so they stay in the game.

Lets make it harder for us oldies going forward. The newbies can catch up.

Soulless was devised to nerf Wither, why not have other enhancements as enemies of other buffs?

That might be very interesting? No?

As such I imagine these enhancements as being monster only. At high levels. If you incorporate them into items... ho ho!!

Disruptor: X% chance to negate buffs based upon complete sets being used together. (Works against KE and SH)

Schism : X% chance to negate the Co-ord buffs.

Fearless: X% chance to negate Flinch

I would add to these the grandaddy of all anti-player enhancements (for me)

Dark Heroism: X% chance to negate Demoralise.

These enhancements and others like -

Invader: X% chance to negate Sanctuary buff

could easily be used as part of a really cool storyline in FS involving new monsters and lieutenants of The Shadowlord.

Just sayin'

Think about it.

#922989 How do you feel about composed potions?

Posted by Belaric on 10 March 2015 - 08:20

Making it harder to create the big potions would be cool.

And would create more of a market for SE and legendary items.

It does come down to supply and demand, and there is a lot of supply of the supposedly tricky frags to make the highest powered potions.

If frags were rebalanced.... we'd have a lot of unhappy players. So the ideas for rebalancing, or changing frag global inputs should come from players, and from composers especially. And be agreed upon. So everyone in advance knew what was going to change and why.

This thread is not villifying composers, it is pointing out the problem with game mechanics that has allowed composing to unbalance the game. I doubt much change will arrive anyway, but I thought I'd say this now, before the game potentially expands into a mobile market. My hope is that will lead to an explosion in the game that will leave us old timers in a distinct minority!!

#922987 How do you feel about composed potions?

Posted by Belaric on 10 March 2015 - 07:49

So your argument, which is at a tangent to mine as the OP, is that scripters who automate the composing process suck.

I agree.

But for the purposes of my argument, it does not mater how they get there, composing buffs, gained through honest graft or illicit script, still conspire to unbalance the game.

They are too high powered. Some limits would be nice.

I think making this argument about globals is a mistake also. It isn't about them. They deserve their own thread.

Composed potions are now being made 24/7. To order, and in some cases beyond the scope of globals. Global potions are not a problem. They are a fixed and known quantity to HCS, and most crucially - HCS controls the supply of global potions.

HCS has zero control over composed potions. Flinch 400? Seriously? It makes Eater of Time a walk in the park. Which is sad to see. But it can be made hand over fist right now. No waiting for it to appear in a global.

Composed potions are great, but they are in danger of destroying too many other aspects of the game.

Earning buffs - why? You can compose them at lower levels. A 200 level character can now compose co-at 300. How many other skills are now redundant? You don't need to gain levels to access the best skills in the game anymore. You can compose your way there instead.

Why make a librarian 225 potion?  You can compose Librarian 300. Or have a guild composer make it for you.

Keeping it simple. Would you join a guild that has a SH 450, Co-at/def 350 potion maker versus one that does not?

If the designers of the game are supposed to create a challenge - should they create it for people with access to SH 450 (distilled), or those who just have SH 175? Which choice will be fairer?

What are the designers to do in the face of such overwhelming buff odds?

Or should buffs be looked at again, and possibly altered?

#922976 How do you feel about composed potions?

Posted by Belaric on 10 March 2015 - 05:52

Composed potions unbalance the game. In my opinion.

Access to composed potions unbalances it further, as very few currently have access to the uber pots at the end of the rainbow. In terms of entire game population.

But hey - we didn't complain when wave after wave of uber pots were to be had for cold hard cash!

Ok - we did complain a bit and said over and over again to HCS that if you give us more, we will demand more.

But that was for money. Which at least keeps HCS alive.

Now HCS has given us ultra pots for in game currency. For gold that can be gained by the patient. And frags that can be hunted and gained  by the patient. Including HUGE Co-at/def and  Smashing Hammer pots.

I am concerned about a two tier FS universe.

One in which the haves are able to access top level composing potions and crush any game challenge.

The have nots either have to pay for those potions or struggle in their shadow.

I'm not sure this makes the game more attractive to new players.

Especially if calls to 'make the game harder' are listened to.

Harder for whom?

Harder for the guy who has access to every composed potion, or harder for someone thinking 175 skills are actually useful? Harder for the newbie?

Of course we could all be patient and get ourselves these great potions that make everything easy.

This can take years.

But how does that make the game harder overall? If everyone eventually gets access to uber potions?

You cannot have the two things - game harder, and composing ultra pots, exist at the same time. Something, in my opinion, has to give. I am happy to be corrected.

HCS is interested in a form of the game that yields maximum return. As is their right. They are developing a mobile interface that I hope will massively expand the game population.

If there is a time to ask to nerf either buff effects, or to limit buff ranges from composed potions, that time is now, because once mobile players come online (which will be awesome), the game as it stands will be largely set in stone. I think.

So, what do you think?

Should composed buffs be limited to lower maximums?

Should some buff effects be nerfed in or out of composing? (Poll for that later if this one gains traction)

Or is the game good as it is?

Speak!

#922793 PVP, GVG, and Leveling Fix

Posted by Belaric on 08 March 2015 - 13:26

Nothing personal.

The decisions to be had are HCS's.

That was my point.

They introduced composing buffs that now nerf everything in the game.

If they nerf buffs for everyone based on the strength of composed buffs, I think more people will suffer than benefit, and the game will lose anyway. The cat is out of the bag.

Let's work together to come up with creative ways to re-establish challenges within the game.

#920549 please extend pvp attack range

Posted by Belaric on 19 February 2015 - 09:11

You know what would be nice? It would be nice if this PvP/leveler dispute was buried once and for all. I'd like to see HCS (Any of them) make a thread about the subject. In this thread would be the following things...

1. The game belongs to us.

2. We make the rules. They are how we want the game to be played.

3. You can either like those rules and play by them, or not.

4. Stop making more threads about this subject.

Then, when they hit the post button.....lock the thread.

At this point, I don't care what the rules are. Just make them already, then everyone can move on and inevitably moan about something else.

Yeah, I'd like that too.

I've asked for it before too. For them to be the grown ups and shut the kids up.

The rules keep getting changed. People keep getting pumped up and then destroyed.

That blows, doesn't it?

If the devs had a plan we'd all be rocking it to Mars.

I'm available for employment.

Pardoux: "Is it because that initial pvp'r can't then bounty said returner of hit perhaps, or have them delevelled ?"

Yes. I'd say that was the reason.

#919900 please extend pvp attack range

*This was an answer to the locked thread, so I'll post it here - you can see the relevent posts I referred to over there too.*

I voted no. I liked rocknoor's earlier post because I agreed with it as a reason not to expand PvP ranges.

I also liked Mr Doom's post.

I fear HCS would have to hire another full time staff member, possibly with a history in counselling and/or diplomatic service to moderate and manage a PvP thread. Locking when staff are not around to minimise descent into flamewars is a good idea. It would keep constructive debate to a maximum.

But having the thread is meaningless unless there is a strong, imminent will on HCS's part to act. And that is dependent on their workload. Which always seems to be high. The mobile interface is probably the big workhorse right now in FS land, and there is Eldevin and the app games taking up time too.

The tournament idea has been put forth by Hoof. I'm sure it will be interesting, I'm not sure it will magically solve PvP's issues to everyone's content. But even the tournament idea has had no love since its mention.

So - if HCS have a timetable, and the will/motivation, and the available work hours to overhaul PvP, then such a HCS closely moderated thread would have a place, and be worth contributing to. Not sure when those stars will align.

#918618 what's with the lag? website offline messages?

Posted by Belaric on 08 February 2015 - 14:01

I was happily titan hunting with just under an hour to go on my buffs, and black screen. Checked my monitor - fine. Nothing to do. No interface. I thought my PC had crashed, but having rebooted it all seems fine. It took half an hour to get back into FS, and by then the titan I had been hitting was being smacked by someone else. So there goes X hundred hits. Quite irritating, but I can't be sure if it was FS, Chrome or my PC. I had done a full virus scan yesterday - so I think that is not it. Doing another now.

Prior to that happening I was having graphics failing to display on the composing page, and the world movement stutter step was back.

Gave up on the titan hunt. Meh.
