#918250 Newbie Token Store

Posted by Belaric on 05 February 2015 - 03:37

This has nothing to do with the above post.

I only just dumped my golden dragon set!

I was really hoping it would get upgrades over time after its release.

Not for me. For newbs.

I think new players having an awesome set that ONLY they can possess, and that increases with power ONLY with them (dependent upon their join date) would be pretty awesome. It would make them less envious of the players that have been here forever. Because lets be honest folks, us oldies hold all the aces right now.

Especially if it (the newbie only set) helps amplify some combat buffs. That would be interesting, would it not?

All us old players could be jealous of the newbs with the ultra set that kicks the pants out of our old combos.

The Golden Dragon set as a 3 piece is perfect. New players would want to build sets around it - creating a new market for odd sets that work with it.

I'm just spitballing here. Nothing serious.

#918249 Can Something Be Done About 5 sec+ Page Loads?

I don't get that. But I hate the stutter step moves across the world map.

Makes me feel like I'm solo line dancing. That ain't never cool.

#916577 Fallen Sword Mobile - Development Preview

Posted by Belaric on 22 January 2015 - 17:57

This is what the game needs! Fingers crossed for its success - I can think of no other innovation that could expand the player population as dramatically as this!

I hope development goes smooth and fast!!

The more I think about it, the more I have my reservations about hiding the top 100.  Especially compared to the other ideas here, I really don't think that would do much to encourage more kills vs just annoying people...

I really like the idea of giving 1 extra Ruby pot for all players who reach a certain threshold but I wonder if 25k is achievable for lower-level players with limited stamina banks.  I know I can reach it if my stamina is close to full at the start of the event and I use a high-level Conserve and get 2 good hunts in but it's still quite a challenge.  In terms of fairness, I wonder if 20k kills would make more sense.

I am completely against basing the required kills around the player's stamina.  While it makes sense to get a player with 10k stamina to get 20k kills, it is ridiculous to ask a player with 50k stamina to get 100k kills.

If HCS agrees to a tiered system for giving out extra Ruby chests, I don't think any of the proposed ones make much sense.  There would definitely have to be a sliding scale such as 20k, 50k, 100k

This scale would give the top 3 contributors who each made over 100k kills 3 extra chests in addition to what they get for the top 100.  Also, if HCS decides to implement such a scale, I think the bonus for top 100 should be dropped to just 1 additional chest or removed completely.  Even if the bonus chests are removed from top 100, players will still battle for the top 100 medal and if they can reach 100k kills, 3 extra chests.

Good points made here. It is difficult to create something new that is fair to the entire community, and there are pros and cons to hiding the top 100.

I'm really not sure we have to mess with the system. It just worked pretty well.

The debate about stam usage and fairness and incentives happens Every. Single. Global.

There is always the argument that maybe NEXT time X and Y type player won't bother participating. That maybe NEXT time we won't hit ruby.

I've always been of the opinion that if we don't hit ruby we'll learn from it and play harder next time. That does seem to be the case. And we'll learn to use and make the most of our reduced rewards.

Strangely enough the debate about globals often (I'm not saying always) seems to be about gaining MORE rewards and MORE incentives. EXTRA chests for things.

I think the rewards are massive as it stands from this global.

I think we'd need to see a consistent failure to perform before looking at altering things or increasing incentives.

Hitting Crystal and Ruby every time is not failure.

(BG if you want to give out extra chests for 4 or 5 times the ruby qualifier, fair enough. I'm not sure it is necessary TBH. And more epic chests in game from stam usage in globals reduces lingering urges to donate for epic chests - that needs to be considered in terms of the overall health of the game - by the players as well as by HCS. Yes, I'm being a boring old so in so.)

#914605 (Another) Titan Idea

Posted by Belaric on 10 January 2015 - 16:01

Just no.

All this distress over titans hanging around for ages...

So what?

They all, even good o'l Gurgriss, go eventually.

We have supply and demand in action right now. It is working. We have cooldowns that allow different guilds chances at secures, then all those different guilds get to wait until someone else decides to clear up the TKP.

Taking away hits once you have made them?? No way. Not all titan hunting guilds have the resources to withstand that kind of treatment. This forcing people to clear the entire titan or risk losing it. We had a thread about titans taking a long time and how to speed it up - this will not accelerate the process, this would mean that to be sure you'd need to spend 6-7 hours of effort on a titan to knock it out completely and be sure it won't 'heal' on you. How will that increase activity?

All I'd see happening here is that titans could survive longer on the board unsecured, which could effectively be a workaround for the cooldown. Say a guild is out for a week. the titan it took out respawns, but due to healing, fewer are killed during that guild's cooldown period (as it is clearly harder to kill a titan that needs more hits, and continually heals past a certain point in time). This raises the price of that titan item as fewer of those items come into the game, and ensures that the guild that can hunt them and kill them off in the time period allowed will earn more of the titan items involved. This seems to me to be an effort to increase control of the titan market, not make it fairer. Fewer guilds will be able to kill of titans in the window allowed, those guilds will dominate the titan market. So no - I think this is a bad idea and does nothing to speed up titan clearing.

Also - would the titan only heal HP from the guild in the lead - or equally from all guilds on a proportional basis? Could this lead to hits being reduced to zero? How can that possibly be considered a fair outcome? I don't think the mechanics of it work that well either.

And again - what is the problem with titans sitting unfinished? Is that alone not incentive enough to go finish it off if you are so desperate for the item? Obviously not - and obviously everyone who does titan hunt is prepared to be patient. Who is being impatient and why is the question that arises for me.

The game is small - the numbers online are not huge, of that game population only a small % hunt titans. Titans are going to sit for longer.

The ultimate solution to titan hunting is for the game to expand again. More titan hunters and more demand for titan items. I keep expecting the day to come when every FS player left has a full set of offline epics. And then you will see titans sit forever. But that will only bother the 150 active players left.

This suggestion, for me, does nothing to speed up titan turnover, and a lot to concentrate titan kills into the hands of fewer strong titan hunting guilds.

#912936 What's coming in 2015?

Posted by Belaric on 31 December 2014 - 04:08

Nice Hoof, only thing I would say is take everything players say with a grain of sand..Self Interest has got us all into this mess.

I'd like to endorse this also.

I said a lot.

I didn't think I was being agenda driven, other than the health of the game. (But people most often are blind to their own prejudices)

But the point stands.

Player agendas have skewed arguments about how best to develop the game.

HCS staff do need to be wary of these.

Ask us - just don't rely on us! LOL!!

Be the adults in the room - nobody else is capable - we're playing a game!!

#912242 What's coming in 2015?

Posted by Belaric on 26 December 2014 - 18:58

This sounds good, Hoof.

It does seem like an AWFUL lot of work though - don't be biting off more than can be chewed!

Specifically - the old roadmap. I think it might be better just to bite the bullet and say it has been superceded by other in game targets.

And some of your other plans include things I think many players would prefer over the roadmap anyway - the mobile interface is one that many of us have for years said would be incredible as a way to grow the game - including our frustrated retiree rebornjedi!! It really is key.

Finally incorporating FSH and shutting down the use of any script is another development that has long been advocated for - and something that should be done by the time a mobile interface goes online and the game has access to new players - new players should join a level playing field, not one which may be tilted by script adaptations - or at least suspicion of script adaptations - we want new players to join a community that is united, not slinging mud!!

The PvP tournament idea also supercedes some roadmap items, and a new well thought out system would be a great boon to everyone in the game.

New buffs - again awesome, and yes it is crazy that we have had no new buffs since 1600. I'd recommend one new bunch at 2000 and another at 2400, unless that still leaves 2400 level players with more skill points than there are skills!! I think as important as more skills is a redesigned skill tree forcing players to make harder choices about how to allocate their skill points. Make them trees again, with points in lower level skills required to get the higher levelled skills. The trees becoming open made it too easy to pick and choose what skills you want at higher levels. Some imagination there could create the skill trees as a very interesting part of character building once again.

So what I'm saying is.... do you have to finish the now ancient roadmap? Maybe it is better to call it a clean slate for 2015 and attack the areas you have outlined as needing help with all your resources from the get go.

#907557 Improve Loyalty Reward

Posted by Belaric on 06 December 2014 - 23:57

How about upping the amount of loyalty points gained per day? 5 is TINY! Again - if the idea is to encourage new players - they may be rather more encouraged if they see their stack of loyalty points growing a bit faster and can see how they could after a while afford some of the more expensive loyalty pots.

I think tweaking the loyalty points earned per day up a bit would solve a few problems without causing massive disruption. Mentally I like 50/day - LMAO!! I know that is waaaaaay too much (or is it??)! Maybe even upping it to 10-15/day is not overkill, but allows actual accumulation of loyalty points over time.

And yeah keys are way overpriced.

And yeah new pots would be useful.

I remain concerned that throwing more stuff/buffs into composing wipes out other potion markets and buff sales. But it is done. I hope it is a great gold sink!

#907554 Making Titan Hunting more Popular

Posted by Belaric on 06 December 2014 - 23:49

Agreed. Those figures are ridiculous. When hunting in a group it is possible to get 1200+ kills in an hour but solo? Not a chance. On the smaller maps I can average about 130-160 kills every 10 minutes if I'm the only one hunting the titan, which would average around 780-960 kills per hour.

I'll chime in and agree also. Depending on the size of the map I am VERY happy to maintain a kill rate of 150/10 mins = 900/hr. Smaller maps I can go a bit over that, if the titan doesn't jump about too much! PITA maps like Dyseki town center etc drop me to 800-850/hr. And some titans (I'm looking at you Kojin) just seem to want to jump more often and take longer to kill, but that could wayward confirmation bias on my part!! LOL!

As for the OP. I TKP hunt most of the time, and I do it solo. Speeding it up is nice in theory, but I think the net effect would to be reduction in available targets for slow loners like myself. And the titan epic market would be filled faster by the extra TKP epics generated by the more quickly finished off titans. I don't care about maintaining epic prices, but if they drop too far the incentive to hunt or finish certain titans will wither away no matter how fast it can be killed (see: Colossus of Gurgriss), and they'll just sit about unloved anyway. Now I'm going the other way - LMAO! If that scenario emerged for more titans I wouldn't mind a faster clean up - an hour is so much nicer than 3, but I don't want to throw the game out of whack because it would be nice to gain TKP epics a bit faster for my guild... so leave it reluctantly be for now.

I think the titan market regulates itself okay - not great, but it doesn't bother me overmuch.

The magic hunter thing. I believe they exist. If I see one I just quit on that titan instantly. No point picking up scraps for the amount of stam you waste running to spots that aren't there anymore, or time wasted sitting still hoping the titan will appear near enough you that you'll get a few hits in if it is a reasonable stack of titan hits there (i.e. more than 2 or 3) before it disappears half the map away. TBH I have not run across a magic hunter recently, but I'm inconsistent in my titan hunting, so could easily miss any current action. Maj's idea is a good one to identify those who have developed private teleportation ability.

That's all folks.

#904808 Forthcoming Composing Update.

Posted by Belaric on 26 November 2014 - 01:48

Consistency and clarity - it would be nice in all areas of the game.

It would also be good if the team had a coherent policy and spoke to each other and were all on message, as the impression is that this is not the case. BG says one thing, Hoof alters or countermands it. In the forum. (Why not discuss the correct strategy in an HCS office first and not disagree in front of the kids? Just teaches them to play you off against each other - look at it happen right now in this thread!!) Not good for team credibility, if you ask me.

Talk to each other HCS guys, and work out your plan BEFORE talking to us, and be the grown ups in the room.

Consistency and clarity would make everyone happier, even if we players  disagreed with your management decisions, if you stuck with them, or clearly and logically explained why changes are made, we'd be happier.

On the other hand - sometimes parents hide unpleasant truths from the kids. So yeah, sometimes just make the decision, and say it ain't up for debate or discussion. Be the grown ups in the room.

Flip flopping and waffling just infuriates everyone. I don't envy you, but I'm also losing patience/interest. Some consistency and clarity would help me stay interested. Good luck.

My 2c.

#900862 Update v2.52

Posted by Belaric on 14 November 2014 - 16:43

If we are of a mind to backdate data for TKP and SE kills then how about we backdate the guild medals data for buffs cast and groups joined etc?

Where is the consistency? Where is the acknowledgement in the guild medals of previous efforts?

Having heard about this and looked at the forum and seen the thread arguing for the backdating, this just irritated me greatly.

Thank you.

#897159 Upcoming Halloween LE update. Opinions.

Posted by Belaric on 01 November 2014 - 05:51

I have found Pillock trapdoor at 2255, 2260, 2265 and other levels. (2269?) You only have to be 2275 to wear the couture.

#892699 'BLOOD' a possible idea for Grims intended removal of xp loss from pvp.

Posted by Belaric on 04 October 2014 - 07:59

Apparently aren't worth enough to fight for...

Are you going to keep arguing against posts that are almost 2 weeks old, or will you make a point that is relevant to now?

Let us see what BG and Hoof propose as to the future of the game. They have not done that yet.

Hoof has said he will propose a new system in the near future.

I look forward to discussing the effects of his actual game system with you when he posts them.

#892301 FINAL SOLUTION for BOTH parties

Posted by Belaric on 02 October 2014 - 02:56

I am of the opinion that we may as well wait for Hoof to say what he thinks and how he envisages the future.

He and Big Grim have read all the threads - let's see what they come up with.

Once they have put their framework forward we can look at solving problems with regard to gold hits, reward structures, possible rating/prowess/blood exploit loopholes to be closed etc. etc.

Of course we can put more ideas forward now - but the window may be closed in terms of what the devs are going to seriously consider before they put their own ideas out there. So I'm just going to wait until then.
