#964579 Upcoming Double XP Event!
Posted by
Egami
on 19 June 2016 - 19:00
HCS has in the past extended the duration of the event and/or buffs if there had been lag or server down time. They may or may not do it again this time if there are server issues.
Indeed they have and I thought it was a great idea.
Personally, I think if it's longer than an hour, they should probably extend buffs remove pot-skills that were drunk within the first hour (random amount, could be two) before down time and replace those pots.
I know that would be a programming nightmare to check, but I don't really feel a simple skill extension was sufficient.
Again, I did think it was a nice gesture, but if the game is down for over an hour, it's likely that some people would have to go to work, go to bed, go dance a jig, what have you. ,oP

I didn't like it because there are a lot of things that I disagree with and will "try" and get to.
I want to emphasize that the fact that I didn't "like" it is entirely beside the point.
If there was one post in this thread that I think it's worthwhile reading, it would be mary's.
It explains the issue excellently, stays on topic, gives examples and, according to some, has stripped me of the title of the biggest text-wall poster.
Why is it so important?
It, as most of mary's posts tend to (in my experience), really delves into the issues and presents a rational argument based on the player's vast experience.
It is the spirit of discussion. It provides tons of info to think about and contemplate.
It is a "text wall" and, I'm not the most objective of people on that, it shows just how passionate mary is about the game and how willing the player is to dedicate a lot of time in an attempt to educate others.
Again, I don't agree with many things said in it and I hope to have that discussion here in this thread.
However, again, if there is one post you read here to "think" about the issue... kick back, grab a refreshment of choice and take some time to peruse post #97 and "think" about the game.
Thank you mary, and kudos!

So you're healthy I hope. What about the game? Does Fallensword still garner enough revenue to justify development beyond quest-less content?
Immediate negativity. Nothing constructive to add to that?
And we all wonder why he doesn't bother to answer to people's suggestions when people behave like this. If I were hoof I would have stayed away rather than return to answer to people like this.
On a brighter note it is nice to see you on the forums hoof. Hoping all is well and whilst I disagree with the negativity showed by some it would be great to see you hands on with the game. Any major updates involving coding coming soon? Seasons perhaps? ![]()

poor players cannot buy composing pots poor players do not increase their max stamina how are they supposed to get the gold to compose as well?
What do you define as poor players?
In any case, this is a free game. There are also many players out there that pay for services, so I don't really get it.
In any case, there are many Guilds out there that help their players.
How does a guilld having 1 x L60 Composer, for instance, giving members uber potions correlate with "another game aspect that guildies can work together on" ?
That sounds more like a "I'll do it, and you can have the benefits", not "we'll all work together on this"
Unless, of course, you're meaning the other guildies are providing frags and/or gold to help the initial person level up - then I'll have to grant you the point
Exactly. It's definitely a complicated issue and I've seen lots of Guilds that run providing for their Guildies in many different ways.
But yes, you've seen how a guild can work together on this for their own benefit.
Laughable. Why? How can they be the MOST detrimental?
I'll keep to only one of the reasons to make it simple:
These two buffs in combination at what you call "super" levels help players to get to EOC more quickly.
The cry for more content distracts HCS from concentrating on other game aspects.
I've seen many complaints about lack of quests and lack of fraggable items.
For example, how can Dispel Curse575 from a Global pot which activates 115% of the time be good?
Come on Lou, do you really think that's terrible?
When you see a player with that on, you realize that your DC isn't going to work, right?
All it means is that you need to reevaluate your setup or strategy.
Isn't that the "thinking" we'd both like to see?
Since we on the subject of super pots, why not release super pots of both Spell Leech and Spell Breaker and remove the protection some of these pots have against these skills? I'd say at least level 500 and make them also work as a defensive skill (for the defender).
Only the donation pots are protected from SB and SL. All of the others are vulnerable.
In fact, I have often smacked with both just to take them off.
I'd have to think more about it, but I do believe though that there would be a big outcry against this by both PvPers and Levelers alike.

I'm sure every new player in the game would love to be EOC and have access to all the 2000+ buffs and a huge stamina bank and he or she can have it if time and effort is put in to the game.
Yes composing pots have a lot of strength and some huge stat altering power ...... But everyone can get them if he or she is willing to put the time and effort in to earn them.
Why should players that have put in time and effort forfeit high lvl pots. It's like asking a Titan hunter to give back all the FSP and epics he has earn and sold for his or her efforts.
I didn't agree with the update that put epic pots in exchange for ladder tokens but it happened and the duration is crazy on those pots. Can say the same for the arena and new pots added there a handful of players dominate those but due to the time and effort those guys have put in fair play to them. You get out what you put in . If composing is changed can we roll back on all the other aspects of the game that players have dominated for many years?

I've read this debate in many other forums, and thrown in my tuppence often enough. But since there a vote I'll briefly restate my view.
I happen to like these big composing pots. I had to use 1600 equipment all the way through to beyond 2400. This was not because uber pots made it possible (I only had SH 200 by that stage), but because there weren't better hunting sets to use. I don't believe it is possible to produce enough sets with enough frequency over thousands of levels, and devise a monster stats algorithm, that will take the equipent challenges I faced for the first few hundred levels and stretch them over 3000 levels. I see the uber pots as a decent fix to that, and as allowing HCS to spend more time devising more interesting things than yet more slightly different sets.
Now that I am close to composing 60 I am still enjoying using these pots. I am enjoying the fact that I don't have to spend large amounts of FSP on potions like DW450 and EW1500 in order to hunt efficiently.
So personally, I find these uber pots have made the game much more fun.

#948663 FSH Update 1507 - Quickbuff enhancements, New online players etc.
Posted by PointyHair

A few more major enhancements here. Probably the most interesting is the
restoration of some more Quickbuff functionality. I say restoration, obviously
it had to be completely recoded for the new interface. Buff packs will now
update stam cost correctly when selected. When you select a player from the
target player list you will see the levels on their existing buffs in either
red or green next to your buff list. I hope this makes sense to everyone! Also
I have added last activity and stamina to the right of the player. The old
Quickbuff showed their statistics block from their profile but I don't think
we have room for that and it is a slow operation so I have decided not to do it
for now. If anyone really wants to see it we can discuss it here.
Online players has been completely refactored. Please take a look at it. I have
no idea if anyone actually uses it but this at least removes massive amounts of
old code while maintaining functionality.
There is a new composing alert for the composers among you. Let me know what
you think. I'm not happy with the alert wording.

Daily quests ? - how about that 2 yr old ( I think ) epic quest being finished (and maybe more added) ?
They wouldn't be 'quests' in the normal sense, but more along the lines of johnagod's suggestion - so for example "Slay 100 Undead creatures", "Defeat 5 Elites" etc.

#944112 Forum Rules and Moderation
Posted by Belaric
on 10 August 2015 - 16:15
Look. Language is subjective. We are never going to get a set of 'rules' that are exhaustive enough to cover every possible situation.
You can put words in an order where every individual word is entirely 'reasonable' but the tone can appear to some readers as 'objectionable'. The moderators have to use subjective opinion to decide when those lines have been crossed. That is a difficult job to do consistently at the best of times.
The end result of looking for specific rules for every forum conflict is the creation of 'forum lawyers' who will spend threads arguing over why their arguments are appropriate, and the other guy's argument is offensive, using labyrinthine rules to prove his or her point. A total waste of mental and emotional energy.
Simpler to accept that the mods do their best, and people arguing will sometimes need to be put in a time out until they put their big girl and boy pants back on.
