#967710 Daily Quests - sneak peek!

Posted by Mister Doom on 30 August 2016 - 09:17

How about we all play what Hoof has envisioned for us first, and then critique / bug report afterwards.

After reading an interesting post in a Legacy thread by Zorg the other day I find it hard not to understand why they don't update as much.

While the update itself does indeed look promising, I just hope this doesn't turn into another monumental waste of their time, ala the PvP update which we thoroughly beat to death with an enormous stick.

I think the reward is fine as is. Sigh. We want everything for free :(

Yeah the quests and rewards will vary each day and I think we'll also look to expand the variety of quests / rewards available after the initial release of it too :)

I think it's a good idea, the reward is rubbish, 5 max stamina? We can only do a years worth of them based off that and earn 1,000 ish max stam? Rewards need to be better, maybe 20 max stam?  Also I would like to see a bonus for example you complete every daily quest in a week to earn a bonus. A nice bonus such as 1 BP slot, AH slot, something that costs a bit to make the effort. Like titans, i use to hunt them to make nice fsp, now most of them are worthless and I dont play much because its difficult to make a descent amount of fsp. There needs to be a good reward for us to make a effort. For 5 max stam, forget it. Also what's with the collect thing? why not have an automated thing once you completed it like normal quests. It's not difficult at all to do. If i do a quest and forget to collect, that would be annoying. I know the quests are different before someone says, but 5 max stamina, come on! Maybe get the rewards better after each one until the end of the week and refresh. That means you want to make the effort daily to come on and get your prizes! Not come and go as you like and think ooo ill do this one, then the next day be like, that's rubbish, ill leave that one today (maybe have a list to show what you can earn during the week). Just throwing my ideas and input. Feel free to add or adjust anything.

If I'm not mistaken, the quest shown, along with the reward, are just EXAMPLES to illustrate how it will work. And he did say that the quests and rewards would be different from day to day and from player to player. I imagine that a quest for player A, at level 100 something, would be much simpler and carry a smaller reward than one for player B, close to EOC with higher priced "needs" as far as stam, gold, etc may be. Before we assume we will get a junk prize, let's have some patience and see what comes.

BTW, most of the games I play with dailies have primarily junk prizes that I end up dumping, as these things are designed to keep you logging in and interested, and in the case of some, more willing to spend RL cash.

At least the +5 stam in this EXAMPLE will be useful in the long run, and killing xxx critters doesn't cost you anything but a little stam and for most of us, less than 15 minutes. Since it doesn't specify a specific type or level, I imagine that Mountain Path would be kept swept clean in that scenario.

Hi all,

Just wanted to share a quick sneak peek at how Daily Quests are looking. We're hoping to have the first Daily Quests ready within the next week or so now :)

daily_quests.png

The Daily Quest will reset the next time you login after midnight each day and must be collected before midnight UTC. When you achieve the quest, a 'Collect' button will appear at the bottom of the box allowing you to collect the reward. Note also the Daily Quest won't be the same for every player each day.

Always has been around 4 to 5% activation rates at 100% depending on pvp and levelling stats collected.

Using data for all PVE battles over 200 levels, I calculated 4.97%; the standard deviation of the mean (grouping data by each level) was about .018%

100% critical means it kicks in 5% of the time (one hit in 20).

How doe one know this? One works out these percentages the way RJ used to: by ammassing lots of data and then analysing it. I used to keep combat logs (when FSH made that easy) to judge the efficiency of various 1- and 2-hit strategies and have lots ot data from lots of hunts.

So the buffs increasing enchants above 100% are increasing them to 6.75% chance to activate. 1.75% increase isn't greatest pay for using 40 stamina. ;-)

Currently the skill doesn't do it's job and take the enchantment past 100%.

Idk if I should've posted this somewhere else, but here it is now.

i always wonder about a lot of these so-called enchantments where i think nobody knows what %'s are actually out there...we all know 100% of an enchantment does not mean it will kick in 100% of the time...so how does it works...has confused me for years...it may be a more kept secret than the KFC chicken recipe...

.... especially as that has, supposedly, just been unearthed and made public LOL

I'm loving all this speculation about what if THIS, or what if THAT ?

Perhaps Hoof has more smarts than we're giving him credit for ? - Perhaps the Daily Events / Quests will use no more stamina that a rookie player can regenerate in 24 hrs ?

All that said (above), players have a CHOICE to upgrade their base stamina - it doesn't always need to be paying real money for it - and, let's be honest, why should (trying to think of a suitable example here) the dole bludger (who's happy to sit on his ass and get something for nothing, without ever having to work for it) get the same "quality of life" as someone who's busted their gut to better themselves ?

Agreed on at a 100%, though I do want to make a few comments here. Those that have upgraded already have advantages in many other parts of the game. Not saying they should not have an advantage here, but as I have expressed many times before, this game needs fresh blood. If new players have a chance in these competitive daily quests there is more chance of them sticking around.

There is a space between "no advantage to upgrading" and "no chance to compete with the upgraded". This thread is moving to polarised extremes, and that really isn't helpful.

I hope there will be some dailies that benefit large stam banks, and some that don't---and perhaps even some that have options/milestones for both.

1)..most posts about stam banks are about daily events not daily quests...and yes the events are to be daily...but if after a few daily events ..players see they have little chance to compete against the huge stam banks...you defeat the purpose of the whole idea.....we all want to play..but playing in a competition that is rigged for the higher stam banks is not the way to go...

2). how has someones elses huge stam bank helped me..besides global events..

3) really ????  no wonder we are losing players, and cant get players to join arena, ladder etc....telling players they dont have participate ???

4)  no...just want the daily events to be fair for everyone...is that hard for you to accept ?

Yoda - You know I like you and consider you one of the good guys... (here comes the big but)

But! We need to support both. I think GE's are a great example of how both get rewarded. Small stam bank folks get awesome rewards despite minimal participation. Big stam bank folk get bonus rewards.

It has been suggested that we should have 2 type of events... Obviously first priority should go to the simple daily events that give mini rewards that any player can accomplish. The 2nd type of event could be the "competitive" event that maybe goes a week or a month and has a leaderboard (for bragging purposes or medals) and possibly a small reward or no reward. Could be themed on the various activities we can play in game. Sky's the limit...

This shouldn't be a THIS or THAT argument. Let's go for both now that we have some developers back :)

And keep it positive ;-p

Imaginary tommy was an example to display what a general player will probably do in two given scenarios just in my opinion, no one elses. Imaginary tommy was not at a restaurant. But I guess you had a pic laying around gathering dust and felt overwhelmed to try and jam it in somewhere . But your point of view from your pic and homeless dude portrays exactly what I assume you try to convey. One section of the game is better and they deserve to be catered to.

I thought daily quests was about generating activity and keeping the game going, if it as just about catering to a specific section as the game winds down, my mistake.

I wonder about the long term effects of this daily activities for reward, the game pits you against the rest of the game for said reward.  That would lead to the simple question, if it is all about giving people something to do and rewarding them to keep them active. Why are you throwing them into a pit against vastly more well equipped people with large stam banks who will probably hardcore grind this.

Let me introduce imaginary Tommy, imaginary tommy gets a list for the day of his daily quests and if he does said quests get's x reward. Tommy goes off to do them and get's his reward helping him on his journey.

Let me introduce you to imaginary Tommy, imaginary Tommy gets a list for the day of his daily quests where he must beat out the most hardcore rabid lot to get a top prize. imaginary Tommy as shown in the past, just stops doing them and ends participation. Reward to time wasted = no point.

Who will benefit of this "daily quests", the few hardcore you already have playing.

Who will you not gain, no one who has quit a game because they are bored of the mechanics are in my eyes ever returning to use said mechanics to gain rewards in a game they have gotten bored with/quit because of said mechanics. Daily quests will probably not retain new players in said format.  So essentially you are getting the people who already play, they play this and then of the playing population the people who have no chance will just pack it in after a while because of grind and no point.

Back to where you started.

Purely one mans opinion so don't feel the need to stab me to death. My words will not sway the end result and if it turns out to be a roaring success. I was just plain wrong. Happens.
