#974027 Comments on "List of Daily Quests"

Posted by Egami on 16 December 2016 - 23:54

This whole discussion about net return etc is why I was opposed to dailies being added in the first place.

Entitled players just keep asking and expecting more for less effort.. and sadly it keeps being given.

Agreed, and I think looking for "net return" is missing the entire point.

The "worst" thing about it is the flaw in the analysis. Players are looking at the "challenge" and comparing stam costs to the "reward".

They are being far too simplistic in the equation.

I have been able to complete DQs by doing what I would normally. To stave off some possible retorts to that: I have also adjusted when I do things based on the fact that it coincides with something I was planning on doing.

Many of the rewards will be beneficial to those near max stam. Level matters not. If you do not have the time to do a hunt or whatever, you can use stam, otherwise wasted, to get any reward. In other cases, you can burn some stam for a reward that will help make sure you don't overflow at the time you plan on doing something.

Current stam rewards can have benefits even though it "could" lead you to overflow.

In other words, there are tons of variables in the "cost" to "reward" equation that are not taken into account by simply assuming that "cost" is equivalent to stam used.

On my break down items quest, I had full stam. So I did a regular hunt. After my stam got too low for that, I killed doubler and used the rest of my stam on rats natives and snow leopards. With 14k stam, I barely broke down a third of what I needed. Granted, I got a hunt in, so it wasn't a total waste, but not being able to complete my task was a huge disappointment. I won't be attempting that particular task again.

BP: your point is excellent and it's exactly the idea. You need to prioritize. The task as you tried it, to hunt and complete a breakdown DQ with the method you used didn't work.

Hopefully, you learned how to make it work.

The situation involves your time and the reward and there are many strategies involved in that too numerous to mention.

In the most simplistic form, I've found that the two most prominent situations when I've been in the same sitch are the following (they are by no means the only strategy for all cases):

1) Do the DQ in question first, and then proceed to the hunt.

2) Do the hunt first and stop your doubler in order to finish the quest. This def requires a lot of thinking, but after a couple repetitions can really get you the experience you need to do it smoothly.

As an add-on here, I'll suggest something that won't work for everyone, but I found helpful to realize. If you plan to hunt on a particular day and have the time, you might check out your DQ reward. Current stam ones are extremely interesting in that sense. I tend to check my DQ and if it's current stam, I do it first and complete but DON'T collect. I then let stam gain do it's thing. I then start my hunt close to max stam and collect the finished DQ current stam reward whenever it's "relevant".

Just to be clear: my position is not asking for more for less effort; it is asking for something for some effort. I am very happy for those gains to be small.

My position is also that the game is worse off if lots of players simply choose to ignore all these DQs.

I think DQs give something for some effort. It's up to players to decide if it's worthwhile for them personally and/or make the effort to see how to capitalize based on all their personal factors/variables.

It's hard for me to see how those players deciding to (and I'll use the word) skip a DQ somehow makes the game "worse off".

In my perfect world, there will be some thought and feedback involved. When would this be good for me? Hey, I better check out how to best do this when it comes up again. How can I use this DQ to my advantage if/when it comes up. What should I do to prepare? etc.

Of course, I'm well aware that peeps aren't too into the effort thing. But my take is that DQs are a lot simpler than arenas. Thinking out a strategy does have more variables, but once learned, I think DQs may be even easier.

Best example I've actually seen at work (strategies abound) was a frag buyer of mine. Caught the player with their bp full and he said, "yeah, waiting on a break down DQ".

They are designed to give you something to do and, when people figure out the best way to do them (post above) they can be quite good in differing ways.

Quoted this part just to remind peeps that there's a thread for suggestions exactly on how to do specific DQs.

At least for the daily quests,  you can hit anyone who has been active in the last 30 days. I've tested it.

Did not know that, and makes no sense to me, lol.

How and why did the 7 day rule get thrown out the window? Sorry, rhetorical question.

Thanks for the info Calista.

I think the DQs would lose something if we got to pick and chose. I think the randomness is part of the charm, and it works (for me) if I feel they are worth doing more often than not.

I don't do break-down DQs (rewards are REALLY not worth the cost of doing them)

I don't do PVP DQs (personal choice)

I don't do allegiance token DQs.

So far, I have still managed to do 77 out of 107 possible DQs, which doesn't seem like an uneasonable ratio in a game where not everyone plays every aspect.

What would adding choice do? If you added a reroll option (small maximum number), then people would still get some days when they like none of the choices. Unlimited rerolls would just have people hunting for the favourite quest each day, so might as well just let them chose. Limiting rerolls by cost would probably annoy more people than the original problem.

Alternatively, there could be an option to select favoured classes of quest, but you'd still have the problem the either some people will still get quests they don't like (because they can't deselct enough classes) or they will get to deselct all but their favourite class.

So I don't see how choice will solve this problem, unless it gives people almost complete choice on the type of DQ and the type of reward it gives.

That leaves me back where I started: if people are doing more than half the quests they are offered, then I'd say the cows have a reasonable balance. I would hope they are monitoring to try improve the choices, but it seems reasonable to me that most of us will have a minority of DQs we reject.

To have options is always helpful! If you allowed players to choose one out of a couple d quests each day, you would likely make players much happier instead of the less hospitable tough love messages. There is a solution.

It aint broken, so it don't need fixing. It's simple - ya don't like the DQ you get on a specific day, don't do it...

#973913 PVP Seasons as a Global

Posted by Mister Doom on 15 December 2016 - 07:26

What a pointless continuation of a discussion, it has gotten nowhere.

If a pvp global is created without either xp loss removed or being optional, it will crash and burn exactly the same as the initial implementation of the smasher medal. At the same time it will foster even more 'hate' between the leveller and pvp player-base and almost assuredly cause people to leave the game, again.

Not really sure why the people who campaigned for the train wreck that was the 'first' smasher medal are trying to make the same mistakes again.

PvP is simply not as popular/loved as some people want it to be, it will likely never be embraced in the way that they want it to be, simply trying to 'force' it down everyone's throat is just going to end badly for the entire game.

W/e enjoy ur game then, you brag you played for 10 years, where is the catch up mechanism for new players? You worked hard blah blah blah... who cares? You are less important then the new fresh players for a game to survive. You experienced it all. All I am saying is this game will most likely not live for 10 more years, and if it does, then great. To my point: I don't want to play for 10 years to catch up to you, I will most likely never experience what you are experiencing. You are to selfish to see the problem imo.

Top players have 150+ stam/hr

You can't catch up, there's no catch up mechanism in the game, that's the problem.
What you brag you did in 10 years, I want to do in half at least

I'm not sure why you need to catch up and I assume we are talking levels here. The main reason that I tried to gain as many levels as I could within as short a time as possible was to try to attract players to my Guild. Gaining levels would allow me to provide a wider range of buffs which to some might be a reason to join. You don't have this problem at the moment.

Higher levels allows you to experience more of the game:

You have 4 titans that you can hunt, one, the Hunted Cow Titan, is very popular due to its drops and its newness and well worth having a pop at. It's in your level range.

Arena, it's in your level range.

GvG, it's in your level range,

Super Elite hunting is in your level range.

PvP is in your level range.

PvP Ladder is in your level range.

Bounty Board is in your level range.

Chest hunting is in your level range.

Need I go on?

Mate, I fully understand where you are coming from as i still get annoyed at the comments about how the game was so much better "way back when" as I always fell they are counter productive.

And remember this, your level is merely a number and not who you are in the game. Placing importance on a players level will lead to only one thing......disappointment.

Cheers.

Ive seen the light...

On a side note, there is alot more to this game than levels, its best you get out of that mindset. This game has a plethora of content for you to play through, compete in and master. The early levels in this game are much faster than the higher ones, not to mention how effortless it is to now one hit. Little be known, but there was a time when we didnt have super potions, composing, epic quests and all these new buffs to bolster Xp rates. If you want to level faster, I suggest you look around and take advantage of these instead of asking for a handout. Its ironic that you ask for a fast lane, when you havent even taken the time to reach level 100, most folks get there in less than a week these days.

There's no struggle, dude. This game isn't designed for you to get to eoc in a fortnight. There's gotta be a reason to come and play again. I've been around for almost 10 years now, seen this game evolve. Some changes were good for the game, some not. Making stam easier or quicker to obtain for a select few, or any of us, for that matter, is definitely BAD FOR THE GAME!!!!!!!!

Actually, it shows that it's okay to have wider levels between those who WANT to PvP. Not so much when people outside the Ladder don't want to PvP. Nice and simple.

#973230 10th Anniversary Titan!

Posted by Pardoux on 07 December 2016 - 19:55

Tainted sets either are in chests or are bought..I see the boots are now 1500 fsp and I have never found a chest in the higher levels, heck I`ve found 1 chest on my own since chests started. Please change this for the higher levels,,,,,thanks RED

I've found 30 chests in realms from high to low whilst SE hunting and normal hunting. Not a single location was paid for.

They're out there, ya just gotta do a lot of walking or be very lucky to find 'em ....

#973227 Upcoming Double XP Event!

Posted by Calista on 07 December 2016 - 18:25

I agree. I haven't worked Mon-Fri in 16 years, so I get it.  Also,  Christmas falls on a weekend this year for the first time in years, as was pointed out. We'd hate to have a big event running and no cows around to fix problems. And  the cows deserve to spend the holiday with their family.  It makes sense to run the event the way they have it planned, even if not the most convenient for all players.

#973176 PVP Seasons as a Global

Posted by BadPenny on 06 December 2016 - 20:55

No, what I said is I had not seen anyone lose levels for just a 10 stam hit. And you pointing out that they lost that hit as well, makes me very confident that there had to be more to it for my guild to do what you claim. There has to be more to it.  And the whole 'the sister of a friend of a neighbors of another friend'  thing is what so many try to pull with the pvp horror stories. Did it actually happen or is this one of those urban myths meant to scare little non-pvp players into believing the monster is scarier then they think?

I have lost levels for a 10 stam hit, for a deflected hit, for a lost hit. ALL were prestige related, no other reason other than that... but none from your guild, however. But it does happen, and it's not as rare as you might think. (sorry, Grim, I had to speak my mind)

Back on topic, I hope this idea gets a chance. There are always events for the "levelers" and "composers", why not a special PvP event as well?
