#929479 Shadow Bunny Showdown & Springtime Forest

Posted by Azarek on 22 April 2015 - 00:07

Okay, let's call a spade a spade.  Those that got the extra chest are happy, those that did not get the extra chest are not. Now what are the facts?  This was a global event that got a lot of participation.  Why? Because people had built up stamina, the chest rewards were the best that they have ever been, and rather than only getting one bonus chest for being in the top 100 you got two.  So what is the purpose of the GEs?  Now I think this depends on who you ask, and might be the source of some of the controversy.

For some, the purpose is to get people to burn their stamina on something other than leveling.  On that front, the event was likely very successful, since the lowest kill count in the top 100 was 280k and the top was over 700k.  The reason that I say likely is that, really we should divide those totals by 5, and in reality most of the people with the high kill counts probably used a distilled chest that had at least Conserve 400, or more likely 500.  But still I think that it is fairly safe to assume that many people used more stamina for this event than they did for the previous ones.  On this definition of a successful GE, the extra prize given for getting at least 15k makes some sense because it means that more people expended more than the minimal effort.

For others, the purpose is for the community to come together to try to achieve a common goal.  In the case of all of the GEs so far, that has been to achieve the Ruby kill count.  On that front, the GE was again a success because that goal was achieved by the second day.  On this definition giving extra chests to the people with 15k+ makes little sense, because as a community we achieved the goal, and there was no reason after this mark had been reached for people to make any more kills (even the 5k).  Obviously the reason that people did so, was for self-serving reasons, namely so that they would get the reward as well.  But why would the community really care at that point how many creatures the person kills since the goal was achieved. So killing 5k or 15k, or 100k made absolutely no difference.  The only way that this makes sense is if people made the implicit assumption that if we significantly exceeded the ruby level that BG would kick in an extra chest as a reward.  Now extra kills mean something, but based on past experience this has usually involved something like getting one more tier worth of kills, and it has always been that everyone who qualified got the bonus reward because they contributed in their own way to the "community" accomplishment.

Well what about the reward for the top 100?  Do we view this as a reward for those people who put in the greatest amount of effort, or is this a fun side competition in addition to the goal of achieving the community goal?  Given the fact that there is always a jockeying for position on the last day, and the fact that we give a separate medal for achieving it, it seems like it is mainly the latter.  As such it is like saying that in the Olympics we should make medals for those not in the top 3, and that these new medals count towards the country rankings for performance at the Games.  One could do this, but it should be stated before the competition that this is what is going to happen.

Anyway, this post has gotten longer than intended, but in general, the event was a rousing success whatever the definition.  It burned a lot of stamina, and the majority of the FS community got involved.  But I think that it is fairly safe to assume that the insane kill count was more about individuals wanting to compete for the extra chests than it was about achieving something as a community, and I think that the major gripe is that there was a lack of information (which is a complaint that even those who are okay with the extra chests, have raised about other aspects of the game).

This was a great event....UNTIL you pulled the 15k bonus at the end without warning! That was not cool at all.  I think it goes without saying that you peeved quite a few people off, including me, with 12433 kills! I would have continued IF you had informed us of this bonus and Im sure a lot of others would have too.

Not nice HCS, you guys could've give at least a day of advice about the 15K extra chest, that event was so fast that no one would go over 5K kills because we reached Ruby Tier in the first few days.

It's not teamwork, the team had already reached the quantity to qualify, more than 5K would be just to get what, kill streak and frags? The only ones who did more than 5K kills was farming Frags for personal use, nothing to do with teamwork.

If that type of 'gift' is going to be present on all events, please say it in the first day of the event.

It would be great with an extra slot at lvl 5.

#921893 Last Ditch(no pun intended) effort at salvation

I don't see that this offers anything to levellers. Indeed, by making more gold get transferred to the attacker, you make it more likely that people will get hit (with lower gold-in-hand needed for the attacker to think it worth their "risk"). So the net effect could so easily be as much XP loss and more gold loss from more hits.

Personally, I don't understand those minds that think it is appropriate for me to put my effort into making the game fun for them and not for me - but I accept that there are people who like to play the game that way.

I honestly don't play the game "my way" to take away from your own gaming experience, or to in anyway degrade your effort in anyway. Hence the reason i posted the 2 buffs that are both more in favor of the person being attacked than the attacker. I am not saying there aren't people out there that will hit someone over and over for no reason. I have seen it done myself, and personally don't see the need for such action. However, I do like to steal gold from those that don't protect it properly.

BOTH of these buffs give you(collective you) as levelers,  a very real chance at protecting a large portion of your experience during a gold hit, and if you wear offline gear as opposed to epics a very real chance of GAINING experience during an attack. I personally don't hit people while they are offline unless they are holding a large sum of shiny stuff out in the open. I prefer to hit people while they are online, buffed, and either in the midst of a hunt or close to the end of it. This guarantees a better return on my part to be very honest. I can't count how many times i have LOST a hit on a hunter wearing the normal suicide hunting gear setups. But, everyone is entitled to their personal take on everything of course, and I don't judge people on their views or opinions. I actually encourage them, i'm not a bad guy i assure you. Ask anyone who knows me. But thank you for your input, it's much appreciated.

also, as  for the part of this creating more attacks, I don't agree with you based on my own style of gameplay. I for one am not going to decrease my gold standards to hit someone just because i may get a few thousand more gold. I'm still going to keep my targets at the high volume held as i do now.

the simplest method grim honest ly would be giving the extra 2 chest to anyone making 40k-50k plus kills i list that number as thats around what the top 100 achieve now and then anyone above 30k kills get a extra chest you would see more doing the events if they know they have a guarantee that by spending the stam on 30k kills they will get at least 1 best chest

people will always try and find a loophole for personal profit..

if i were the cows i would make traveling potion makers have to stay in a guild for at least 7 days before they can make guild tagged potions..

titan hunters cant join a guild and hunt within 7 days of joining, so i cant see why potion makers are allowed to profit while guild hopping

#920633 please extend pvp attack range

Posted by Corrupted on 19 February 2015 - 19:08

Gold thieving is part of the game, has always been...

Now let me say this.  I've played this game for three years now, and I have never had a 'good' interaction with a PvPer. How is that supposed to make me feel?  I had one return gold once when I messaged him and basically thanked him for ruining my day.  I've been hit a couple of times while online, and I took those hits in stride as I deserved them.

Yo, man. I've taken gold from a lot of people at different stages of the game, and really the only thing that marks the difference between a 'good' or 'bad' interaction is the way you respond to the attack. Some people have straight bountied me, no problem. I deserve it. Rare occasions the bounty comes with some nasty message which I don't reply to, or in rare occasions they just do nothing at all.

But there are also some that send a message (not negative), and things escalate to the point in which they even laugh with me after I take some loot. I mean, I do understand the act of getting attacked doesn't really bring a smile to your face, but do at least try to be nice to them in some sort of way, I bet your odds of a 'good' interaction will highly increase!

#920433 please extend pvp attack range

Nothing suggested here resolves any of the current issues with pvp. Let's increase the range of a broken system. Majority so far voted against it yet you still want to do it. Put it out to the entire game community but if results are too close too call, then screw it. Do it anyway. What's the cutoff? When 90% of the community don't want it? 75%? 60%? Obviously 50%+1 is not good enough

How is it a foundation of a game when you don't have to participate in it? (Albeit you have to pay for the honor) It doesn't impede progress or block you from many of the other activities available? Where is this foundation?

I wasn't voting on how to resolve PvP issues, i voted on, should an extension in the PvP attack range be added to the game. To which I voted yes. Personally, I don't see the addition being a game breaker nor have I seen any credible argument to suggest that it would be, so why not.

As for polls, I don't give them any great importance. So many vote blindly and with prejudice that they are pretty much a farce and any results they show are to be taken with a pinch of salt.

By the way, my house is built on a concrete foundation but i don't need to go through it to enter it.

Cheers.

#920071 please extend pvp attack range

All I see is people saying that they are against it because that will bring more PvPers for their PvP Ranges, using other words, plaer Y don't like the idea because will bring player X to his PvP Range.

What a non-sense argument, the problem is just a simple math problem, more levels you have, less players you'll be able to hit, if HCS don't want to see people getting stuck on low levels, just increase the PvP Range for higher you reach, simple and easy.

And guess what, if HCS don't allow you to spend stamina levelling up what can you do with your stamina? Yes, PvP, smashing people around.

A simple example would be:
Level 1000, 10 levels attack range, 10 targets.
Level 2000, 10 levels attack range, 5 targets.
Level 2000, 20 levels attack range, 10 target.

We know the numbers are not that easy, but the idea is!

If we had more possible targets, less people would complain about being hit so much, will be 1 attack on 10 players, not 5 attacks on 2 players.

The problem with PVP is the problem with many aspects of all games - people need to stop taking everything personally, and stop taking a game so gosh darn seriously.

Peace.

I'm so over the nonsense 'bully' crap. Grim never should have put that out there. It's a game! People are going to play different ways then others. That's one of the best things about FS. I'm not a bully because I PvP. And everyone on the forums can be accused of bullying. Get over yourself!

PVP is the Game 75 % of the buffs are pvp buffs the more efficiently you use buffs the more efficiently you can play any part of the game.

What I find really funny is the people who are the anti pvp brigade using 70 to 90 buffs when hunting and getting less xp than they would if they used 34 or less but because they do not understand the game and its mechanics they do not...yet these people can be mentors and influence others is just counter productive to the game as a whole.

Everyone always acts like changes to pvp are going to hurt only the pvp players. Remember the change that allowed a bounty for every hit? Levelers loved that until the first time they lost 100+ levels each.  Now that was fun.  lol

The accusations of 'bully' being thrown around with support from the game staff. It's an ugly name to throw out at people who are just playing the game the way it's set up.

The confusion with the changing rules. Example: The game allows for hourly hits. It's in the rules. But if you do hourly hits, you're crossing a line and face being banned. We're told not to send demands or messages,  and are then told we can't 'hide' behind the excuse of no demands and face being banned. Which is it? I'll follow the rules if someone will tell me what the heck they are.
