#909398 Double XP Event! 48h vs 72h

Posted by sweetlou on 14 December 2014 - 21:32

Who's the challenge for there ? - PvP'rs can beat any setup as it is, so doubling the xp taken is no challenge at all ? - just means double the "pain" for those hit and a soft-clear on the BB for most of those doing the hitting ?

I see no challenge there whatsover ...

Obviously challenge for the player, not "PvPer" vs "Leveler" as so many would like to continue to divide players with labels. Pain as you like to call it equates to a challenge. You have already thrown in the towel claiming there will be a soft clear. I promise you hit the wrong players and you will lose 5 levels and try hitting someone who's global potted. You think it is so easy, but it ain't. You're simply afraid, afraid of losing xp(even a little) which is so easy to obtain. The problem should be how to you keep the xp! As most veteran players already know, ditch your gold and you should be safe from attack. But then again so many just want to hit 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,r and log off. Just goes to show the ease with which xp is attained... and on top of it players continue to want it easier to play; double xp gained isn't enough, triple is still desired by some. This game will not survive with the same old boring "events" players can now ink in their calendars. Speaking of challenges, I'm challenging the developers to come up with something that excites players, and I'm talking about more than adding some uber skills!

#905465 Update v2.60

Thank you for that. Should probably have an open discussion with the community about what they feel about it. Imo ladder tokens should be scrapped considering its a joke how they have been achieved, but dominance medal should be kept and made possible to progress further in the new pvp system.

Agree on the tokens,NO WAY are they to be transferable to the new system or allowed to be exchanged for anything else but the current pvp rewards.

As for dominance, well most have gotten theirs lately by doing nothing except sit in ladders with their mates, either not hitting or trading hits, no dominance in that and it just devalues pvp.

I'm not surprised a couple of players who haven't seen a Ladder since before there were brackets, if even then, are spewing hatred and calling the Ladder a "joke" because someone else has done something they're unwilling to undertake for some righteous moral ground reasons. They're too good for that, the Ladder was easy attacking unbuffed players etc.... so they want those who have been playing it to suffer so their indignation will be justified. Hey, how do you know what Ladders were walk throughs? You both want to spew spite at those that have dominated their PvP range, in whatever way. What have you done? That's the joke! Just because nobody else is willing to lose xp and spend stamina playing the Ladder doesn't make the player sitting there alone or with a guildmate any less dominant. General Sun Tzu, the ancient Chinese strategist who is still heavily quoted today wrote, "To fight and conquer in all our battles is not supreme excellence; supreme excellence consists in breaking the enemy's resistance without fighting." Personally, I've been in some tough Ladder fights where I've had to stay buffed, and get buffed for almost 48 hrs. And I still didn't win it. That ain't easy. Have they all been like that? No. But who are you two to tell me and others like me that have been on the Ladder for months or years that our accomplishments are somehow beneath you, that I don't deserve to have my medal or the tokens I've earned retain value? I'd rather you'd go off and keep scripting at Titans and 'earn' your accomplishments in your own way.

#904458 Forthcoming Composing Update.

Posted by Kbyte on 25 November 2014 - 12:17

Gonna say it again:

It's more likely it will just be you need to use more Legendary, Super Elite and Crystalline frags and slightly less Commons for the more powerful potions. We're still looking over the numbers tho :)

It already spend an considerably high amount of Legy, Crystalline and SE frags to make Doubler 1000. If it increases more it would be an absurd

By Now to make an Double 750 with 60 min [can be bought on ah for less than 35k gold] on composing for example spend:

45K Gold | 76 Commons | 70 Rare | 64 Uniques | 24 Legys | 20 Crystalines | 18 SE frags

(Surely doubler 750 from ah is better), but if the player can make Doubler 1000 (an doubler higher than ah option) s/he would spend:

60K Gold | 100 Commons | 96 Rare | 88 Uniques | 34 Legys | 30 Crystalines | 28 SE frags

If an player make an LF 500 with 120 min to titan hunt for example s/he would spend:

60K Gold | 100 Commons | 92 Rare | 76 Uniques | 28 Legys | 20 Crystalines | 16 SE frags

* It is less expensive to buy an LF 600 and an BM 300 than making an LF 500 with 120 min

** Isn't Them Expensive Enought?

Posted by KitiaraLi on 22 November 2014 - 09:04

*snip*, so I quit. See you in other games.

Always sorry to see a player leave a game, especially over a game mechanic/aspect. As for the "See you in other games" part, most likely not, as I personally only play games with a PvP aspect in it ;)

Hoof, Rad; I am happy to see you two around here again, and hope you actually stick around this time, and get the game into the shape it once was - or better.
BG, I hope this will also bring you back? Sorry to see the way you have behaved on forum as of late. You used to be the one who fought for keeping the game balanced, and were not afraid to make the unpopular decisions to keep the boat moving at a steady pace.. unsure what happened, but you for a while seemed to be ... stressed? Anyways, I hope this makes for a dedicated, moving-forward FS team once again.

As for all of those, who already started complaining about a new system perhaps being introduced; Hows about waiting with the dislike till you see what it actually is? Just saying.

As for those, complaining because you did not get an idea pushed through, and altered the game into what you wanted; Sorry ppl, ,that is what happens. Always has, always will. Come back, when you actually get an idea shaped and accepted by the actual majority of different gamer types, via long debates, only to see it mutated into something unfamiliar after a few days, because a select few send a few pms to a developer (aka smasher medal).

As for those I have fought alongside with, and/or against in many a PvP battle over the years, both personal, guild, and almost global scale wars; I do love you all for sticking around and still fighting to keep this aspect of the game alive

Now, maybe .. it's simply time to lock this thread, and let HCS make some new ones when they are ready to introduce their ideas for either debate, or acceptance?

#903347 Development Update 19th November 2014

Posted by Calista on 21 November 2014 - 22:12

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Justinian9 referring to completing a bounty ? - and not PvP'ing random folk  ??

no, it wasn't for clearing the bounties. It was for each level taken, in addition to the bounty reward.

I do not wish to hijack this thread with this discussion.  I only posted in here as you had used something I did as an example and thought I should list what I did.  If this is important enough for you to want to discuss start a new thread I will respond when I get time

Or just say you don't have a good answer.  Which btw, is relevant to the discussion going on in this topic. It makes no sense to point fingers when you're just like the rest of us.  gigglesmile.gif

How to discourage? With existing tools in FS, I can't. As many folks decry "crying" (which I think is a 2 way street but somehow only leveler's are "cryers"), I have never done that. Never opened a ticket, never complained to the attacker, never spoke to the attacker. What would your suggestion be? I hope it's not a "become a pvper too so you gain some respect" response. How prestigious is it to go after someone with a 0 rating vs a top 250 pvp'r?

I've already given an example in this topic of how I used the game mechanics to deal with prestige hitters. There are several avenues players can take. It's just never enough for some. And it's never going to be enough to make everyone happy. PvP has been watered down by multiple changes made over the years. I could lie and say I'm sorry that Grim's proposed changes were thrown out. But it would be just that, a lie. There is a purpose for xp loss in this game. It's always been that way and it's the one thing pvp'ers have always been told would not be changed. What we've been doing to the game isn't working. Hopefully HCS can come up with something that works for most. But that's the closest their ever gonna get. That's just life.

#903289 Development Update 19th November 2014

Posted by Calista on 21 November 2014 - 19:46

no 100 stam hit for prestige...if used pvper get 0 prestige..and no 100 stam hits (outside of bb) if player is carrying less than 250k in gold..i  could be wrong..but i think that would ease a lot of the problems

and should be only 10 or 100 stam hits allowed in pvp...so no one tries a 99 stam hit to get around..

Generally, it's not PvP'ers going around hitting for prestige. We get our prestige from the BB and whatever hitting we're doing on our own. That is not speaking for all pvp'ers of course, but you will find more prestige hitters are levelers demanding safe hits. There is no such thing as a safe hit in PvP. There is suppose to be a risk, even if it is for prestige. And many pvp'ers have been taught for years not to waste a chance at a 100 stam hit. Because nothing sucks more then trying to be nice about a hit and the target posting a bounty and getting nasty about it. If we're gonna get punished then might as well make it worth the trouble.

#903147 Development Update 19th November 2014

Posted by Calista on 21 November 2014 - 15:21

Ugh, so many people bunching PvP players into the same mold. It doesn't work that way, any more then it works when levelers are bunched together. I know I'm considered one of the more ruthless pvp players, or so I am told. I'll hit anybody if the reasons are right. But I don't hit random people for gold. I don't hit people for prestige. I don't jump random bounties for smasher ticks. I don't go out and start issues. I just back up my guild and friends when others start the trouble. I guarantee no one has lost XP on the bb without first hitting someone. The majority of PvP players I know won't stomp without a solid reason to. (double dipping, mercs, trash talking, threats, etc) and we've been known to go after other pvp players who make us look bad.

It's sad to see the people screaming the loudest about what 'most' pvp players do are hypocrites about it. You got one guy on here screaming who was totally fine jumping random bounties to 100 stam and get paid to delevel a player who did absolutely nothing to them. How is it okay when you pvp but we're the evil ones? Or the other guy crying about getting deleveled for hitting someone one time? You hit someone, that's how it works. It's called a risk. That's a huge part of PvP which we keep saying.

Just to give an example, last week I was hit by a prestige hitter, 10 stam hit with buffs and a long message explaining to me why he was hitting me. I 100 stammed him back once and he immediately sent a message saying he wouldn't hit again. Few days later, he hits me again and sends a message laughing about how he was going to hit me anyway. Again, a 10 stam hit with buffs. So I started 100 stamming hourly, probably about 8 hits. Low and behold, the guy starts crying and making threats about the bb. I told him it was his decision how the rest of the issue went, but it was between us as far as I was concerned. Guess what, he stopped hitting and stopped making threats. So am I the bully for defending myself against hits I didn't like just because he used 10 stam? Or did I use the available means in the game to discourage a prestige hitter by making the prestige not worth the xp he lost? You can ask that of 5 people and you'd probably get 5 different answers. Luckily in FS, I have the ability to decide for myself how to discourage a prestige hitter. Without the xp loss, I'd have been a sitting duck forced to sit back and tolerate being hit whether I liked it or not. There is a purpose to it, there always has been. Is it abused by some players? Hell yes, but the same can be said in gvg, titan hunting, leveling, etc. HCS has and will step in if an issue gets out of control. But some of you need to take some responsibility in that as well.

#903333 Making Level Up Points for Attributes Flexible

Posted by bleacher12 on 21 November 2014 - 21:38

In playing another game recently I observed a very nice implementation for an aspect of FS that has always annoyed me and I'm sure other players as well, the fact that Level Up points assignment to attributes is permanent, requiring an expensive reset for reallocation.

Different aspects of the game require points in different attributes, even with hunting for example, depending on the stats of the Elite/SE/Titan you would probably want your attributes setup differently, putting more points in Attack, Defense, Armor or Damage as needed for that situation.

Not to mention the difference it would make in PVP, be it straight up or Bounty Hunting or GVG, being able to adapt the attributes to compliment your setup and counter the target's setup and points would add a whole new dimension to PVP and actually make Cloak more meaningful. Modalities could be worked out (for example, you are locked in to the attributes at the start of a bounty or PVP tournament), but it would be nice to have the choice.

By default perhaps players could be allowed to set up 2 or 3 attribute configurations with the ability to buy more slots like we currently can with saved combat sets or arena moves. No limit on reconfiguring points within the available sets.

Perhaps the up coming replacement for the ladder could be a good point to introduce this change. What do people think?

#894913 Blood, Grim removing XP loss? his idea?

Posted by mimdala on 16 October 2014 - 23:45

to start with i am not reading any of this thread, nor am i even contemplating reading the op's first post.

all i can say is that i hope the title of this thread is some sort of joke.  i can only assume that 20 pages of this thread would indicate that is not.

lets be smart and look at the facts.   FS is pretty much dead, and currently has no hope of becoming a popular game if it continues this path of phale it has been on for the past few years.   7-8 years ago this game was on fire and on a pace to become a very large game in the gaming world, currently i would believe that at this point in time that more people are playing atari than that are currently logged into Fallen Sword..  please tell me you guys can see that what you are doing with PVP has turned  this game into an almost unrecoverable state.

i can't believe this is even a serious consideration, never mind pinned up as top news of the forum.

THANK YOU! This needed to be said.

#893550 'BLOOD' a possible idea for Grims intended removal of xp loss from pvp.

Posted by dowuones on 10 October 2014 - 11:25

Lets start from this: are we sure that xp loss is the main concern of those who dont PvP?
Im sure its not. Sure its an important aspect, but please trust me when i say that for someone who doesnt PvP, its much better to be hit once on a while losing xp, than being regularly hit losing nothing. The worst thing that can happen to someone who doesnt PvP is to log in everyday and see his log with received attacks. Its an aspect of the game they dont play, so the first reaction is "leave me alone and let me have fun with my game". So a random hit once in a while causes less damage than constant farming hits. Please trust me, cause i know this is what happens. (and im excluding from the equation gold hits: if you get hit for gold its your own fault, but im pretty sure everyone agrees with that). So the first thing is: being hit regularly for random reason, prestige, farming etc. is much worse that a single sporadic hit, even if you lose nothing. Please dont forget this, cause it very very important and it created BIG problems in the past.

The second aspect is: why they dont PvP and how can they be involved in PvP.
And excluding a small percentage of players who might get involved with rewards or medals, the answer is: they dont PvP period. And you cant have them involved, there is no way, they just wont do it.
Its a part of the game? Yes. Its a part of the game they will actively play? No way.
An every attempt in involving them will relentlessly fail. And their chance to have fun in the game will go down.

So for someone PvP is the most important part of the game, for someone else is the best way to enjoy the game less. It has always been this way.

When PvPers hit each other and randomly hit non PvPers once in a while, everything works. Every time there is an attempt to change this, it doesnt work anymore. It already happened too many time in the past for not being true.

Lets consider then, that players who dont PvP are not one or two. There are many of them. If you take a look at PvP medals in profile, or the number of players who played the ladder, or the amount of prestige in players profile, you will notice that there is a high number of players who dont PvP (and as said, for many of them, there is nothing you can do to change the situation).

That said, i have a big concern about this proposed update: i read about adding quests, global events, or other kind of events.
Quests: the main thing i do in this game is completing quests: if there is a quest in my quest book, i have to complete it, if there is an adventurer medal, i must have it. Almost an obsession. Now if you add PvP in quests what will happen? Will i make them? The answer is simple: not a single chance. And if i cant complete my quest book, if i cant get the medal as soon as its possible, i have no more reason to complete quests. My main goal in the game is ruined.
Same goes for global events, where the goal should be to work together to achieve a result, not to work one against the other. I dont miss a single event, i want them all and be the first to get the medals. If you add PvP will i take part in global events? The ans wer is still the same. Its not going to happen, and another aspect of the game would be ruined.

So are there ways to improve PvP? Probably yes, even if, if you look back, probably PvP in old days was working fine, probably better than now, after dozens of changes and updates. In fact the main problem in old days was only that PvP rating was gained by just a few high level players (mainly cleaning friendly bounties), cause there were just a couple of PvPers in high levels. If you apply the old system to the current situation, where there are probably more PvPers at EOC than in the rest of the game, that problem would have solved itself.

Please also consider, that there is a large part of the community that never read forum. Here we are planning a HUGE change in the game, and only a very small part of the community is involved in the decision process. An announcement in  home page would be nice. But i can tell you which the main reaction will be, cause i have seen it happening already too many times in the past (i started to play almost 7 years ago, so i saw it many times). Every year we start over with a new PvP system. Trust me when i say that the main reaction will be: "Oh my god, again?"

The conclusion (cause i already wrote too much) is: PvP can be improved, but it should be improved by having more PvPers competitively hitting PvPers. Any attempt of trying to involve more that part of players who dont PvP, is destined to fail, or to ruin someone game experience.

And so will be any attempt of linking to PvP other aspects of the game. Quest, Events, Buffs, are a part of the game that is working fine. Make the adjustment you think can improve the PvP apect, but please DO NOT, fix PvP by touching what is working in the game. The result would be much worse that expected.

#893776 Here's what I think about PvP and XP loss

Posted by wil72 on 11 October 2014 - 02:00

Where does the real "bullying" happen?

Is that not the place where XP loss should be removed from?

Could say more but won't, don't want muted "like".

Cheers.

#893678 'BLOOD' a possible idea for Grims intended removal of xp loss from pvp.

Posted by Grimwald on 10 October 2014 - 18:20

Edit :(just stating my pov off PvP in mixed games, so nothing too harsh or whining I hope).

I am one of those players who basically don't do PvP. I don't see any point in spending stamina here to get some gold, while having the risk of losing some levels. The few PvP hits I have done are when I was new in the game, and when somebody ws screaming in the ShoutBox "please hit me" :)

Most of the games, I play the same. I do them for an quest or so (and I tend to feel very sorry when I accidently KILL him/her) but thats it. Would I do that quest in Fallensword? Probably. Would I do an PvP event, well it depends on what i am going to get, must be really worthwhile. Some time ago, when the bashing-medal was introduced (PvP smasher) I was afraid it would kill the game for me, luckely it got tuned down pretty fast.

My biggest fear from the new changes in PvP is that there is nothing I can do to punish the attacker when he starts hitting me during my hunts. This new changes will protect my XP, but not my gold, so what will happen if somebody starts whacking me every few minuts during my hunts?? They say you can bank it, well I don't have unlimited bankdeposits. They say you can turn it into FSPs, yeah right, everyone is doing that so it takes a lot of time, sometimes. At this moment I can punish him by posting him on the BB and get some levels removed, well mostly his buddies take the bounty out, so its not really effective and it cost me MORE gold to place the bounty.. But still, i have the feeling I am doing something back. But if that is even taken away or he doesn't care for pvpxp??

I have worked hard to get to my current level, but if this change means I am going to be an soft gold-target during my hunts I will answer like I have did with ALL the other games, where I became the victim of an farmer and there is nothing I can do. It will be BYE BYE and see you around in my new game.

#893457 'BLOOD' a possible idea for Grims intended removal of xp loss from pvp.

Posted by avvakum on 09 October 2014 - 20:59

The reason we're looking to remove XP Loss is down to bullying and the fact that the loss of levels drives people away. A huge number of people care very much about their levels and to have them removed for imagined slights (usually they're playing the game as intended and others take offence at this). It is counter productive and as I've said repeatedly, there's been no real, solid reason for it to exist that the proposed PvP XP system will not cater to.

No doubt the tickets are emotional, but you see only the dark side of this. What about people wanting to lose the levels for their friends/guildmates? They don't submit any tickets! Normal XP is the only real currency in this game and it doesn't matter what people are saying about not caring about their levels - they spent their time to get them. Don't you see sacrifice for the friends as a positive thing? Do you have other in-game mechanics for that sort of thing?

In the Good Old days, I saw how our friends got in trouble, when big guilds, full of higher lvl players, outnumbered them in everything. I don't think you've experienced anything like that in your "Hunted Cow Studios" guild, but in that very moment, when the guild leaders say "we are in", the feeling is like in seventh heaven. You click the Bounty Board link and it's like a scene from a movie - when the Rohirrim arrive and charge into battle, just to see the Army of Mordor running to submit the tickets.
