Hoof, Zorg, BG.

The only things Arena really needs:

- Come back with the old Arena.
- Tokens prizes would be: 1st-Prize+2 Tokens, 2nd-2 Tokens, 3rd-1 Token, 4th-1 Tokens.
- Add a Arena Token Shop, without moves, with REVISED PRICES, something like BM300-50 Tokens.
- Add Token Prizes, not many, just a few.
- Add new items to the Arena.

I believe that's what everyone was hoping for.

+1, this is exactly how 99% of us expected the update to be..supplement prizes with tokens for winning at least one round.....not have the tokens be the prizes..and bm300- should be about 500 tokens at least..

i have heard from other players that i sent this message to when discussing the arena update yesterday - that this is a nice way to put how i feel about the horrible arena update and why it is so bad..this is feedback..please read hoof- another point that is missed in all this messis that the fun of arena is gone with this new system..fun was paying 20k and sometimes (tho rarely) winning a prize like brewers artpot or twinkles toes pot or some other high valued prize...and sell it for 25-50 fsps to do an upgrade on my character..i would literally be jumping up and down with joy..that is how i got addicted to arena....winning tokens to eventually buy something is not even close to the same fun...and now i will have to win many token tourneys just to buy one of those pots ( i am guessing they will make them a few hundred tokens when they come to thier senses), therefore having to spend much much more in tourneys fees to get the same pot i used to be able to win for 20k..that is where the epic failure comes to mind- took the fun right out of arena..

 

i am sure page 1 post 1 of shindrak's arena token thread did not envision this would be how it is done, tokens were to supplement the prizes, not be the prizes, and they were to be given to those that would win a round or 2, but not the finals, to help encourage more players to try arena..i see none of that with this new system..hopefully i will wake up and realize this is just a bad dream... cows please read page 1 post 1 of shindraks arena token thread..thx for listening

Dear Hoof, Grim, Zorg and HCS team...

Constructive suggestion:

Test it Out First - if you don't want to do a test server, then in major changes of this nature - then make it free to enter and maybe no rewards, just virtual -- so people see what they could have done with the rewards. Folks would still earn tic towards medals and give you feedback. It might also have encouraged non-arena players to just test out the waters and maybe you would have had them hooked.

By not evaluating value of items in the pre-new arena market a lot of distrust and anger was set in motion - unnecessarily. Doing tests with valuable game commodities and throwing players into rages against each other and frustration with the you, as developers, could have potentially been avoided.  

 

There are suppose to be Ladder-PvP Changes ahead, consider a testing system for that as well, so that people can provide you with feedback. Again, no rewards - have to depends upon players to voluntarily jump in and provide you with feedback over a period of a few days. Then once you have that, cross check it against our own avarice, and then roll it out.

Question:
Instead of proceeding trying to do bandaides, should the arena be put back the way it was temporarily?  Everything re-evaluated with what input you've received and then rolled out.  We'd rather have it right than just a broken system proceeding.

Today's Results:
Aside from those that are happy they won and got valuable items from the arena cheaply and those that are not happy with that, there are other longer term affects of the current structure:

1) With limit arena levels and all even, one needs very little arena gear or backspace, as there are limited combinations required.
a) Does HCS really want players to not want FSP to buy more gear and more backspace?  This seems a negative to the bottomline?

2) If the current few arena levels remain and we no longer see the wide variety of random levels, then estimating that 90% of current arena gear has become Frag worthy: losing pretty much all value.  Also this will leave a lot of players with a lot of empty bps that they've invested a lot in -- this doesn't make for happy customers.

3) With so few levels of arena and all be even,  it becomes quite boring and stacked against new players.  You're just going to have the same old tired players rolling out the same gear with a move change here and there.  Boredom does not keep players engaged.

That thread was to prize players for reaching finals/semi-finals, even loosing, and only a FEW Arenas would be for Tokens.

Now it's all about Tokens, that way the pros still winning alone, no one will be encouraged to join, and the prices will go even lower.

Hey - at least they did the update on Wednesday and are responding to feedback - not a Friday afternoon special!!! How many of those have we been unhappy with in the past??/ LOLOLOL!

 

Maybe Zorg didn't get that memo (about Friday updates)! So yeah - it is an update with issues - almost every major one has those, but at least it is not a weekend long FUBAR.

 

Arena had no love for 2-3 YEARS. Its finally got some love - some clumsy doesn't know how to slow dance without stomping on your feet love, but love all the same. Maybe they'll learns some better steps tomorrow!

 

I do hope they introduce more level ranges as they had before - it is a crying shame to see so many set ups rendered obsolete and so many folk potentially denied a chance at being competitive.

 

For the rest - I have lurked and read, some folk took advantage. Has happened before. Will sadly happen again if the game lasts. Given the recent negativity and pessimism on these forums (which I have shared to the extent of just not bothering to post at all, as what was the point??) I am pleased to see so many people got woken up and stirred into action by this - maybe there is a community left after all! Just have to rile it up some! LOL!

 

I shall wait and see what happens tomorrow.

Changing the arena rewards to tokens is all well and good, but it doesn't solve the base problem... That the players with the best, most expensive equipment dominate the action. The average player has little chance against the arena masters. 

That's only partially true. There's no way to win without the best gear in non-move arenas, but I've won plenty of move enabled arenas with unforged gear, etc. Those are more about finding right combinations of items and moves.

 

I really don't like how tourneys are now only 100, 500, 1000, etc. It limits the creativity of sets used in arenas significantly, and allows less room for growth in terms of finding good combos.

a few thoughts:

 

- the rounded tournament levels make a lot of the current gear in the game obsolete. We would need the random levels re-implemented. 

 

- the token reward amounts need to be rethought, so that lower level players don't miss out. For instance: 25 tokens for every tournament, regardless of level.

 

- limit the move allowance to 3 (or 4) moves per combat set.

 

- announce an arena update at least 5 days beforehand, so the community can give feedback before it's implemented. This will avoid mayhem and prevent players from screaming about things they know little of while complaining about others who know how to play the arena.

Additionally, you need to restore the whole range of arena levels.  With only 6 different levels, that obsoletes 100s of once useful sets.

I'm on ladder for more than 5 months now, and I rememer an occasion were I was out triping with friends, when I get back the Ladder had 2 resets, and I received tokens for both, without even logging in on the game.

Just now the high lvl Ladder (2000 and 2100) it's only with my guildmates (The Evil Dead), it's against the rules? Of course not, they all want to play the Ladder, but if someone from another guild wants to join he will have 9 targets on his back. So, what can we do about it? Punish my guildmates from joining on the Ladder, what is not wrong? Punish player on those ranges for not joining the Ladder, even having 9 targets on his back? No one is wrong about this.

What the Ladders need is new items, so more people will want the Tokens = More people joining.

And I really the idea of 'no opt-in', everyone will be on ladder, wanting it or not.

 

Make the arena the same then, no limit on the number of guild members joining...

BigGrim has returned, we'll be looking at the balance for the new Arena changes on Monday. Hopefully, release will be next Wednesday. Sorry for the delay.

lol..from wednesday, to thursday, to friday, to monday then wednesday again...please fix arena, please do more than just arena tokens...please add random matchups....and most important of all - please make the prizes have value again (or the arena tokens idea will fall flat on its face)...please make it easier for new players to participate..speed up arena- fix the starting entry fees !!  ..please, just do something...thanks

It is very easy..eliminate all scripts..the add ons will be worthless if there is no script to run off of...thus eliminating any chance of cheater scripts to be used or they would be easily detectable..like titan hunting scripts that allow super speed or teleporting with the titans..thus making it a level playing field for all to enjoy...cheat free !!

*shrug* So many other things I'd rather have HCS work on than this.  If there weren't significant aspects of the game that need attention like Arena, PvP, Ladder, GvG, Player Retention, Game Integrity (removal of scripts), etc, then I'd say hey let's go for this, but this to me is lovely but not essential.

We were hoping to put the arena improvements live today (the code update is ready for it), however unfortunately BigGrim wasn't in work today and he's been working on the structure for the new token-based arena rewards. Hopefully BigGrim will be back in tomorrow and we can get the update live :)

hooray..at least some communication..thanks for letting us know..all arena players waiting patiently..hope this update does some good..must do something to make prizes valuable again

While this is possible, I have 2 reasons for not wanting to do this. Firstly, the FSH features are generally quite advanced and aimed at experienced players. Having them in the base game may confuse new players. Secondly, it would be many months of work for very little end result as far as players who already use the FSH are concerned. They wouldn't be getting anything new out of it.

 

The problem with the FSH is that you guys have no control over it - and because of that, any player with any javascript knowledge can (and HAS tweaked) tweak it to provide functions in the game that aren't available in the "stock" release of the FSH.

 

As such, it's a backdoor for folk to cheat with, seemingly, impunity :(

 

So, yes, I stand by my wish that it was incorporated into the game and then outlawed.

 

If that can't happen, then, as a (reluctant) alternative, just ban the FSH entirely and take back control of your game ..

I cant believe 2 days are causing all these issues. He said/ she said :/ ..when did peoples ability to think what is best or to make choices for themselves stop?

I saw the " kill the wraths, a weeks notice for xp event" post too, and chose to work out what would be the best of both worlds for my character. Its all about thinking ahead, not blindly doing what x said to do. Surely we dont need our hands held and are saying hoof should have said " now remember, we usually give a weeks notice for xp events, so work out your stam, think ahead, and kill more wraiths only if u can regen stam to where u will be happy"

Given how much you can gain max stam wise in a week, if people didnt allow for this, how is this the cows fault? Especially when you can look up wiki and see the dates that 2x were historically held.

augh. Just augh.
