#863345 My suggestion on reviving the Arena

Posted by Brice on 17 April 2014 - 03:11

Ok!!! So this is how I in vision a 72 Hour ARENA SMACK DOWN TOURNEY going down :D

1st. The Arena tourney will be broken up in to ladders..just like the PvP ladder..except it will break down like this:
Lvl 10 to 49
Lvl 50 to 99
Lvl 100 to 149
Lvl 150 to 200 then from here 100 lvl increments
Lvl 200 to 300
Lvl 300 to 400 and so on and so forth up to lvl 1000

2nd. There will be a 24 hour window for players to enter into the tournament prior to it kicking off( allowing time for the brackets to fill up)
Then each player is allowed to enter only 2 brackets for each 24 hour interval(once you choose there's no turning back...choose wisely my friends for you won't know where the Arena elites are going to be...LOL) THE TOP 3 PLAYERS IN EACH BRACKET AFTER THE FIRST 24 HOURS MUST CHOOSE ANOTHER BRACKET....the rest of the players can choose to stay in that bracket or move to another, and yes I see some brackets being more crowded than others but you won't know until it starts!!
3rd. Each bracket must have at least oh I don't know let's say 20 players and have a cap of 60 players...if a bracket doesn't get the required amount of players then that bracket is nullified and players must choose another. So basically there will be three 24 hour intervals during the tourney.
4th. Each player will receive 1 automatic point for just entering an Arena, in which, after so many entries you qualify for some kind of minimum prize(kind of like the global quest) additional points will be acquired depending on where you place in each Arena that is activated.
5th. There will be a minimum of 12 Arenas per hour with a cap of 24 per hour and will have the even amount of combat move Arenas and non-combat move Arenas(this way players with no combat moves can still win)
6th prizes will be handed out to the top 5 players in each bracket after the 72hour event, and a very special prize will be handed out to the top overall 5 players :D

This sounds kick butt to me, but I might be a little crazy too...LMAO!!!

Xp gain per hour doesn't do much, so I think it should be increased according to the OP.

In light of how many players view reaching EOC starting out or even from the mid 3-digit levels, highly implausible. I've been mulling over a few suggestions to alleviate this.

One such is a few changes to XP Gain.

1) Remove the scaling down at lower levels (below Level 500).

2) Increase the amount of XP Gain epics give by a factor of 10 or even 25. (At a higher level it's negligible anyhow, but at lower levels it will make some items, such as Fire Dragon Ring, Leaf Dragon Rune and the Gurguiss Crystalline set at least somewhat useful again.)

3) Increase the amount XP Gain upgrade gives by either 25 or 50 per investment. (To be blunt, the amount xp gain gives relative to levels was never adjusted as content was added. It is most effective in the 400-800 zone and almost laughable from 1300 on, likely ever increasingly so later on. Give more incentive to invest in this character upgrade. The gap between newer and higher up players is to the point of absurdity. This can be a tweak that benefits everyone equally, and also aids in players feeling that they are making notworthy progress into the game.)

4) Alternatively or in fact in addition to these changes, increase the base xp gain per hour to 5 times what it currently is not related to added via upgrades/equipment.

5) When adding the next portion of the Epic Quests, instead of Stamina gain. Made a large amount of XP gain per hour, plausibly 500 per hour or even 1000 per hour.

In the grand scheme of things, the end goal is player retention.

As things are, a non-donor has literraly no chance to reach EOC in the current setup of FS. Even with these changes, it's pretty close to impossible save for possibly 3-5 years of CONSTANT activity, even then highly unlikely.

I think these changes to XP Gain can assist players, (particulalry donors moreso than others in the case of #3), though through leveling gold gained from creatures at higher level can then be converted over to FSP to seek out said upgrade.

In the grand concept of these changes to XP gain, we can see a bit of an uptick in player growth as well as a possible overall morale boost that the notion of being behind EOC players at a scale I've seen in no other MMO I've played, can be slightly alleviated, and thus continual activity by players can get the rest rolling out.

I believe we can then give new or long term gone, but returning players a solid boost to surge forward to feeling they can play a role in guilds they join to a larger degree than before without ever having to go and spam out current or reserve stamina beyond the existing Phoenix Reutrning Player system.

Anyhow, feel free to tear the concept to shreds, as I'm sure some are want to do, lol.

I'm all in favour of the cows now banning the FSH and, by default, ALL scripts ...

Most of the outstanding facilities offered by the FSH can be added in due course, but all players managed without it beforehand and can manage without it now.

Removing this and all scripts gives the cows an easier way to detect if players are running custom scripts and thus treat them accordingly ...

Hello Grim,
I want to start this post out by saying that I've really enjoyed playing FS over the years and made a lot of good friends from all over the world from it. I'm really impressed with HCS doing there best with keeping the game updated and interesting for everyone who plays it(this can't be an easy task for you guys) and that it takes time to achieve this. Thank you for keeping us up to date on how things are coming along :) The part of FallenSword that I'm completely hooked on is the Arena,in which, I'm looking forward in seeing what updates are coming to it in May.
I started a Forum concerning the Arena, and wouldn't expect any of the ideas posted in my Forum happening any time soon, but would love for HCS to take them into consideration for possible updates down the road. I have been impressed and very thankful to all the players that have responded, given there ideas, and expressed there opinions in my Forum(1,000 thank you's to all of you :) ) I understand your a very busy person, but if you could find the time to review my Forum or let the Great person in charge of the Arena to take a look I would be very grateful to you and HCS for taking the time to look into it.
Thank you Grim and all the Cows for all of your hard work in keeping this game fun and exciting :)

#862217 My Suggestions for reviving the Bounty Board (And this is quite radical)

Posted by Mzzery on 12 April 2014 - 02:45

These are my views... now that I finally have more time to actually read and post.. lol

*  You shouldn't be able to buy a de-levelling party when you post, by upping the payment. You can already get someone delevelled by organizing a delevelling party before you post and posting only when everyone is ready to hit. It works, all it requires is that you're a bit social and interact a bit with your friends, so they'll want to help you out. To pay for a delevelling party goes against every single thing I like about the game. That would be like forcing every bounty hunter to become a mercenary unwillingly. That WOULD make me quit bounty hunting. I'm nobody's mercenary. I do like helping friends though. VERY important difference there to me.

* The bounty board takes twice as much xp as the same kind of hit does ingame, so a 10 stam clear already takes 2 times as much xp on the BB as one 100 stam hit does "ingame".

* If you want to bounty hunt, make sure you hit every 2 minutes. If you take 2 hours doing a bounty, you SHOULD get posted imho. (Someone mentioned that they were multi tasking, and took 2 hours to clear a bounty cuz of that, and they were upset about being counter bountied). A bounty is sort of like a date... don't go on a date unless you have time for your date, or he/she WILL get upset.

* If someone has already started a bounty, the "xp loss remaining" will in 99% of the cases no longer end in the number 50. It's always a good thing to check that before you start swinging.

* Don't take a bounty, and then stop if the person happens to get buffed up. And don't demand that they get rid of their gear for you to be able to clear them. AND don't walk away unless you made sure they are okay with it. What I mean is.. if you are lvl 700 and someone at lvl 1900 is on the BB, and geared up, maybe you should wait for another bounty instead, unless you want to risk getting counter bountied if any of the stuff in this  section applied.

* If you don't wanna risk getting counter bountied, don't bounty hunt. If you bounty someone for having done a swift 10 stam clear where the hitter hit every 2 minutes, and didn't give up just cuz he/she lost a few swings or got deflected a few times, then you'll most likely end up on a Wanted Targets list, and get 100 stam cleared by said player from then on. It's just that simple.

There are sooo many ways you can hide your gold and protect your xp already, so why make the game even more risk free?

And yeah, it's a GAME... nothing to get all upset about. I think we all play to get a bit of relaxation and fun, and to hang out with friends. Some only want to play safe and build up their character, and gain levels etc, and they already have all the tools to do so safely. It doesn't cost much to buy that upgrade.

It's impossible to buy an upgrade that makes deflect go away when you want to steal someone's gold, since antideflect really isn't all that efficient. It's impossible to steal all your gold unless the master thief enhancement kicks in, and it does so only on occasion. And, it's impossible to bounty you if you don't hit someone in the first place. If you want a risk free game, don't take risks. Don't carry gold around, and buy that xp protect upgrade or the xp lock upgrade.

I refuse to play a game where interaction with other players isn't important, and this is the one thing where it is VERY important, in FS. Why make the game more antisocial, by removing the need to gather up hitters for a delevelling party?

No...

- keep the need for socializing. Don't force every bounty hunter to become an unwilling mercenary.

- remove deflect from the bounty board.

- Leave the BB the way it is, just remove the prestige gained on it, and remove the opt-in for the ladder. In short: If the ladder is no longer opt-in, and people gain their points smacking ingame, they shouldn't lose them on the bounty board.

Oh, and cookies... I like cookies. Especially chocolate chip cookies. Yum :)

Lost my trail of thought now.. anyway.... Thank you for reading :)

#862243 DEFLECT!!!!!!

Posted by Mzzery on 12 April 2014 - 05:44

I can't stand deflect. I wouldn't cry if it was taken away from the game :)

#861292 DEFLECT!!!!!!

Posted by Leos3000 on 09 April 2014 - 00:02

So there is 1 buff in the game that drives me crazy and frustrates me enough to avoid aspects of the game that involve it...Deflect

I have a simple suggesting to lower the frustration and hopefully increase activity in PVP aspects

Deflect should only work in Normal PVP (meaning off the board and ladder and not in GVG either)

Recap:

Deflects works for normal PVP (gold and prestige hits)

Deflect DOES NOT WORK in GVG, the ladder or Bounty Board

All this buff does in the aspects it should not work in either delay the inevitable or frustrate people.

#861963 My suggestion on reviving the Arena

Start it off with a bang IMO to get more people interested.

How about do a major update combined with a 72hour Arena tourney! With new pots and 1 mill+ tourneys, and token Arenas!!! :D

#861958 My suggestion on reviving the Arena

Posted by Brice on 11 April 2014 - 03:55

Ha!! Point taken Pardoux...but I am a veteran Arena player and if this was implemented I would be limited to what Arenas I could enter, and I'm fine with that. If that is what it would take to get more players back into or to be motivated to play than I'm all for it...I just would like to see more players get interested in the Arena. The Arena is in a bad need of some kind of change or update...unfortunately the last update was ok but it just crashed the value of Arena items,in which, gave a lot of players less incentive to play...personally I don't play the Arena for greed or to make FSPs anyone who knows me knows I post all loot the lowest in the AH and all gold goes to my guild...I play the Arena for the challenge, strategy, and making Arena setups...loved it since the first time I entered one. I do feel that the token system would be an awesome incentive for players to play, and a win tiered bracket could work if implemented correctly.

#861907 My suggestion on reviving the Arena

Posted by Brice on 11 April 2014 - 00:36

I have a few ideas on giving some life back into the Arena and hopefully you all and the Cows will agree :)
I've read all the old postings on how to upgrade the Arena and here is my take on them and a bit more. Let me start by saying a token system is a great idea!!(shindraks idea a few years back) for the Arena but instead of using them for items how about using them for player upgrades(example)what if you were able to acquire tokens in the Arena,in which, let's say a winner of a tournament received 3 tokens and the runner up received 1 and after accumulating so many you can go to the player upgrade section and acquire 1 BP slot or 10 stam etc....you could balance it out by if 1 BP slot is worth 15fsps then you would need 50 to 75 tokens for 1 slot (seeing that most Arenas cost anywhere from 50k to 177k gold to enter). I would also suggest spawning a 2 to 4 token tourneys.
Since a lot of players are deterred by Arena players with a lot of wins, and think we get some kind of advantage(this is so far from the truth) break down the Arena into categories , such as, a beginners level. This would be where all the combat move Arenas, low gold tourneys(50k to 250k), and common Arena items, BUT if you have more than 150 Arena wins you cannot enter them. Then an intermediate level where the gold tourneys are higher and have common Arena items, resources, sprinkled with a few high value items,in which you need to have 151 wins to 750 wins, then there is the Best of the Best(haha) gold tourneys are 500k to 5 million, common items, with a good dash of nice potions.
One last final suggestion...possibly once a month or every so often make a 72 hour weekend Arena Champion Tournament where the players with the most wins receive a chest(like a ruby global chest) and some upgrade tokens to the top 5 players and everyone who participates after so many entries receives at least a bronze chest.

I look forward to reading the responses and ideas that spin off of this :)

#861669 My Suggestions for reviving the Bounty Board (And this is quite radical)

Having spoken with Hoofmaster, we're seriously reconsidering the PvP Ladder system. We're looking to review it, possibly removing it and replacing it with the original PvP system. We think that might help. I personally think the ladder watered PvP down.
