#904218 Development Update 19th November 2014

Posted by Spider0007 on 24 November 2014 - 18:12

Yes. Send a Support ticket and we'll deal with it. It's not name calling which is ruining peoples fun. It is an extremely small minority who insist on taking things to the extreme. Telling people to leave over this is not helpful.

Actually no. I have never said players using 100 stam attacks are bullies. Please do not put words in my mouth. 100 stam attacks every hour on the hour is not bullying. It's PvP. However, when that is taken to the extreme, that's when it becomes bullying. That is what we are looking to stop. PvP is an important part of the game. Always has been. We've just been looking at various possibilities for PvP to make it awesome again, without allowing the extreme behaviour.

 So 100 stam attacks every hour on the hour is not bullying. Its PvP. But if its taken to the "extreme" its bullying? I am so confused. I thought the most "extreme" pvp is hourly 100 stams. Can't get more extreme than that considering the game liimits you to 1 attack every hour which each attack can wind you up on the bounty board even if you're deflected.

I WISH we could simply remove the word "Bully" and "Bullying" from our game lingo altogether. Its PvP, no more no less. Bullying is a VERY  serious issue amonst our schools and communities in REAL LIFE. It really has no place being used in a game because real bullying is anything but gamelike. Using the word "bullying" to describe PvP is ridiculous and offensive. If that was really the case, then all of us are bullies because we take full advantage of all those monsters, super elites, titans that we kill everyday that don't even stand a chance of winning.

Ugh, so many people bunching PvP players into the same mold. It doesn't work that way, any more then it works when levelers are bunched together. I know I'm considered one of the more ruthless pvp players, or so I am told. I'll hit anybody if the reasons are right. But I don't hit random people for gold. I don't hit people for prestige. I don't jump random bounties for smasher ticks. I don't go out and start issues. I just back up my guild and friends when others start the trouble. I guarantee no one has lost XP on the bb without first hitting someone. The majority of PvP players I know won't stomp without a solid reason to. (double dipping, mercs, trash talking, threats, etc) and we've been known to go after other pvp players who make us look bad.

It's sad to see the people screaming the loudest about what 'most' pvp players do are hypocrites about it. You got one guy on here screaming who was totally fine jumping random bounties to 100 stam and get paid to delevel a player who did absolutely nothing to them. How is it okay when you pvp but we're the evil ones? Or the other guy crying about getting deleveled for hitting someone one time? You hit someone, that's how it works. It's called a risk. That's a huge part of PvP which we keep saying.

Just to give an example, last week I was hit by a prestige hitter, 10 stam hit with buffs and a long message explaining to me why he was hitting me. I 100 stammed him back once and he immediately sent a message saying he wouldn't hit again. Few days later, he hits me again and sends a message laughing about how he was going to hit me anyway. Again, a 10 stam hit with buffs. So I started 100 stamming hourly, probably about 8 hits. Low and behold, the guy starts crying and making threats about the bb. I told him it was his decision how the rest of the issue went, but it was between us as far as I was concerned. Guess what, he stopped hitting and stopped making threats. So am I the bully for defending myself against hits I didn't like just because he used 10 stam? Or did I use the available means in the game to discourage a prestige hitter by making the prestige not worth the xp he lost? You can ask that of 5 people and you'd probably get 5 different answers. Luckily in FS, I have the ability to decide for myself how to discourage a prestige hitter. Without the xp loss, I'd have been a sitting duck forced to sit back and tolerate being hit whether I liked it or not. There is a purpose to it, there always has been. Is it abused by some players? Hell yes, but the same can be said in gvg, titan hunting, leveling, etc. HCS has and will step in if an issue gets out of control. But some of you need to take some responsibility in that as well.

Well said!

Many here (both PvP and Non-PvP players) tend to want to lump all of PvP players in to a single group or discount other players experiences and say that's not a "typical PvP player".

There are MANY different play styles (both in and out of PvP) and you can't limit your understanding to just what you have experienced in game.  It helps to listen to others and try to understand that their experiences may be different than yours.

Personally, I am a non-PvP player that has MANY friends here on both sides of the argument.  I have nothing against PvP or those who choose to participate but one of the things that keeps me coming back here is that I have the choice to not participate if I don't want to.  That said, I have NEVER attacked another player here.

Since starting this game I have been attacked NUMEROUS times for many reasons.  One reason I know is I guarantee to place you on the BB.  Some PvP players take that as a threat but I seriously just like the concept of the Bounty Board and enjoy supporting it (I have placed 151 Bounties to date).

Being attacked so many times, I have come to know many different types of attackers.

  • There are those who attack for gold - easy enough to avoid these, just watch your gold.
  • There are those who attack for prestige - these typically complain about being placed on the BB but that's why I have a warning on my bio.
  • There are those who attack because they don't like you or your bio for some reason - see above.
  • There are those who attack because of who your friends are or what guild you are in - yep, I have been attacked because I was on the friend list of someone they hated...
  • There are those who attack so they can be placed on the BB for whatever reason - some choose this method to delevel themselves or just to have fun defending themselves on the BB
  • There are even those who attack for no apparent reason at all - some maliciously and some who just feel like giving you a "love tap" lol

It is impossible to group all these players in to one group or to say "that's not normal" just because you haven't experienced it.

Oh, and for the record Calista, I see no problem with the way you handled that prestige hitter.  If you don't like the possible consequences of attacking another player, don't do it.  If you don't mind retaliation of some sort then swing away ;)

*snip*, so I quit. See you in other games.

Always sorry to see a player leave a game, especially over a game mechanic/aspect. As for the "See you in other games" part, most likely not, as I personally only play games with a PvP aspect in it ;)

Hoof, Rad; I am happy to see you two around here again, and hope you actually stick around this time, and get the game into the shape it once was - or better.
BG, I hope this will also bring you back? Sorry to see the way you have behaved on forum as of late. You used to be the one who fought for keeping the game balanced, and were not afraid to make the unpopular decisions to keep the boat moving at a steady pace.. unsure what happened, but you for a while seemed to be ... stressed? Anyways, I hope this makes for a dedicated, moving-forward FS team once again.

As for all of those, who already started complaining about a new system perhaps being introduced; Hows about waiting with the dislike till you see what it actually is? Just saying.

As for those, complaining because you did not get an idea pushed through, and altered the game into what you wanted; Sorry ppl, ,that is what happens. Always has, always will. Come back, when you actually get an idea shaped and accepted by the actual majority of different gamer types, via long debates, only to see it mutated into something unfamiliar after a few days, because a select few send a few pms to a developer (aka smasher medal).

As for those I have fought alongside with, and/or against in many a PvP battle over the years, both personal, guild, and almost global scale wars; I do love you all for sticking around and still fighting to keep this aspect of the game alive

Now, maybe .. it's simply time to lock this thread, and let HCS make some new ones when they are ready to introduce their ideas for either debate, or acceptance?

PVPERS WIN...took over the forums,,,took over global chat...step out of line..get beat up....took over the cows..they win..the less than 10% of total players in the game..wins....disgusting...

I understand you are frustrated but I suggest you keep such ridiculous hyperbole outta the forums.

#902430 Development Update 19th November 2014

Posted by Hoofmaster on 20 November 2014 - 00:23

I was actually referring to getting new players to this game with my post..

Ah ok - in that regard I think we just need to introduce the PvP aspects of the game to new players better. Back in the day we actually had a quest where you required a certain PvP Rating (when it used to be a global rating) to advance in it. I'm not saying we add PvP related quests back in, but I'm thinking more along the lines of as we change the start of the game to introduce the different elements of it, PvP should be included in this so new players understand how it works :)

#902385 Development Update 19th November 2014

Hang on a min, this is a COMPLETE u-turn from recent statements made by BG and yourself (through BG) that XP loss WAS going to be removed from PvP - something that the majority of players active on the forum were in favour of ?

How come the U-Turn ?

It was something we considered, but I talked it over with Radneto and the rest of the team and xp loss is something that's been in the game since day 1 and it's not something we're planning to remove. It's likely we'll make some tweaks to how the loss is calculated (especially at lower levels).

#902287 Development Update 19th November 2014

Posted by Hoofmaster on 19 November 2014 - 20:04

The announcement mentions PvP but only addresses the ladder. In the last few months there have been some serious threats about changes to straight PvP. I know I'm not the only one waiting to see how much of that is actually carried out before deciding on whether to continue playing the game or give up like so many others. Any word on changes that address actual PvP?

Over the years as the game's evolved, we feel that many of the PvP discussions and changes have actually been detrimental to PvP and essentially watered down what was once a really important part of the game.

Any discussions on PvP on the forum usually are split 50/50 on whether the community thinks they're a good idea or not and I feel it kinda creates a divide. We'd actually like to see PvP move back towards how it used to be back when the game first launched as it was something that was exciting and vibrant - I'm sure many players who have been around that long will remember the difference!

So to answer your question - we're going to focus on adding a new PvP tournament system (and at the same time remove the ladder) without changing 'normal' PvP in the game. I do think many aspects of normal PvP also need improved (such as the bounty board), but any changes we do make will be to improve it, not dilute it :)

#894898 Blood, Grim removing XP loss? his idea?

Posted by RD1542 on 16 October 2014 - 22:59

to start with i am not reading any of this thread, nor am i even contemplating reading the op's first post.

all i can say is that i hope the title of this thread is some sort of joke.  i can only assume that 20 pages of this thread would indicate that is not.

lets be smart and look at the facts.   FS is pretty much dead, and currently has no hope of becoming a popular game if it continues this path of phale it has been on for the past few years.   7-8 years ago this game was on fire and on a pace to become a very large game in the gaming world, currently i would believe that at this point in time that more people are playing atari than that are currently logged into Fallen Sword..  please tell me you guys can see that what you are doing with PVP has turned  this game into an almost unrecoverable state.

i can't believe this is even a serious consideration, never mind pinned up as top news of the forum.

now i am sure some of the fuel to this sort of desperation is the utter stagnancy of the game, but if you are looking for something to change the game permanently  and increase activity, reset the server and remove all bans. everyone has what they have, all items, guild xp upgrades, trophies, medals, what ever. will probably mean policing the game a bit for a while, but i think any activity from the support system at this point and time would be a welcome change.  then for those who wants to stay in the ghost state of FS can do so and can sit and play with themselves with no xp loss....

but what ever kind of ridiculous changes are being made, just remember that pvp is one of the only things in the game that has never been broken.....  yet it has been "fixed"  several times, each one becomes a devastating blow for the activeness of the game.

RD

and ps, the resetting of the server and bans is a serious idea, and hope it boggles through your head a bit. look how much people liked new world map fsbeta....

#894753 'BLOOD' a possible idea for Grims intended removal of xp loss from pvp.

No matter if XP loss is removed we will still be considered bullies ;)

#891744 PvP-Ladder Sollutions.

Posted by LuxFerre on 29 September 2014 - 02:44

If it doesn't matter finding out how the majority of the players feel to have a poll and a decision has been made, it would seem that the decision would have "the best interests of the game in mind".  However, we have to ask the effects of a change and what the outcome will be.  The idea behind a decision to remove XP loss and make it PVPXP loss is that XP is held as valuable.  Many non-PVPers don't like losing XP getting hit so they complain.  Some threaten HCS that they will quit unless XP loss is removed from PVP.  The COWS don't want to lose revenue with the game losing players, and the game some would say would deteriorate.

In this case, XP loss from PVP would be prevented.  Instead, PVPXP would be lost.  If PVPXP has little or no value compared to XP, then as some say in global chat, who cares if PVPXP is lost, all that is cared about is XP loss.  There must be some gain besides a medal or rank to have a perceived value of PVPXP.  Maybe special items can be introduced that require that both a player XP level and PVP level must be obtained or a certain XP level + PVP level must be obtained or are based on PVP level alone.  Make it that 1 hitting can only be possible with items that require a high level of both XP level and PVP level.  This would make gaining PVP level DESIRABLE and a sought after goal.  It would make PVPXP valuable.

*** However, what the game developers have to consider very carefully is:

By making PVPXP VALUABLE, once the same people complaining NOW about XP loss start to lose their valuable PVPXP ... there will be complaints on how evil PVP bullies are hitting them.  PVPXP will be held as valuable and many non-PVPers won't like losing PXPXP and the complaints start again.  Some will say they will quit unless things change and PVPXP is removed from PVP!  The COWS will not want to lose revenue with the game losing players, and some would say the game would deteriorate.  Full circle.

So, thinking ahead and how this will play out, I would ask the game developers to THINK this through. What some THINK will result from this change will not happen.

I just want to state this NOW so later on if ANYONE even THINKS about complaining about losing PVPXP from being hit, I would hope you will remember this post and humbly just deal with it and remember that getting first in this game with either XP level or PVP level won't pay your bills, won't make you live longer, won't bring your family closer together - so losing levels, either XP or PVP, is really not something to be all upset over :)  Just play the game for what it is, however the "what it is" is.

So here is my reasoning why I don't agree with this PvPxp system.  Some of you might not agree, but this is my own opinion.

Losing xp in PvP is sorta like a tradition.  It has been going on since the game first started.  To the PvPers losing and taking xp has been a thing for a long time now.  So, what happens when you force these group of people to suddenly stop their tradition?  Well let's look at from real life too.  If a certain group of people were forced to change their ways, well, most would leave the country, others would protest, and some would try to adapt. When a change of tradition happens there is usually a mass migration of those people from the country to another.  I've talked to some of my friends, the majority of them have said they would quit the game if this was to happen. Even those who don't actively participate in PvP say they don't agree with this change, because it's sorta like a tradition to the PvPers.  So, the only thing I see happening if PvPxp is implemented a bunch of people quitting, some who would continue to protest against the change, and a few who would try to adapt.

you cannot pound people into the dirt unless they partake in PVP. its kinda like dating, you need two people for it to work, hence the name PLAYER VS PLAYER.

So I am basically getting from this thread, boiled down ......... is .............. everything about pvp is useless........ it was people I attack and them loosing xp that is truly what pvp was about all along and the true reason I attack people. Well then if that is the case. The foundations of pvp have been very poor indeed or you all need to evalutate your true intentions behind attacking. To feel better about harming someone ?? Some of the posts in this thread are literally ..... wow ...... reading and not in a good way.

Also how can BigGrim answer that statement, cripler. It is literally grasping at straws. O the xp is now like blood you know and I need my share to make me feel good about my gaming experience. Also the blood letting will be replaced with new rewards etc.

Think of what removing XP loss from PvP would do...

-PvPers would leave the game, and, let's face it, the game has already experienced a huge decline in players in the past year and a half (I mentioned the past year and a half because that's how long I've been playing), with less members being online at the same time every day, if PvPers start to leave Fallen Sword would become almost as dead as SS2 in the next 3 years max.

-The Bounty Board would be useless, because most levellers (emphasizing MOST, not all), bounty their oppressors because they take away XP form them, not because they take gold away from t hem, I mean, let's face it, if XP loss is removed, what's the point of a leveller placing a bounty on the PvPer, it will only cost him/her more money...

Before you jump to conclusions, you must put yourself in the shoes of EVERY type of person out there, and think of the after effect of this new idea...

We've already tried a version of 'safer pvp' and 'rating'  It was called the PvP Ladder and Prestige. Those didn't work so well. Why are we contemplating taking pvp out of the game to basically turn it into what has already failed?

PvP has to have a risk. There has to be consequences or else what is the point? I guarantee no one has lost 5 levels on the bb without having taken the risk of hitting someone first. The players complaining about being deleveled on 10 stam hits are prestige hitters demanding safe passage on their hits, 99% of the time. The people screaming 'bully' are guilty of trash talking, pvp'ing players themselves, threatening wars and retaliation, only to realize later they bit off more then they can chew so they run to HCS expecting protection, even though they have a plethora of options on how to save their xp. (including not hitting another player and leaving themselves open to the risk they don't want to take)

Every time a change is made to water down pvp, it fails. Taking the xp loss out of pvp is about as extreme as the watering down can get. Just leave it alone already.

Why XP loss is important has been answered many pages ago. When you progress through the game more and more difficult creatures and other players are making it challenging by taking your XP. This is a competitive game and other players have 2 options to compete with you - level up faster or slow down your progression by taking XP. Like in any other game if you can't go through a level, you can't go through the level - go back to a previous level. It used to be when the creatures in the realms were taking XP and slowed down progression with 2-3 hitting, but levelers complained to no end and threatened to leave the game (1-hitting is fun, 2-3 hitting is too slow, I leave), so practically they've got their "no XP loss from the creatures in the realms". Now they want no XP loss at all. Where is a progressive challenge? HCS are lucky that they have active PvP'ers to make progression challenging - there are games where players are hired to increase "intelligence" of creatures. The games are there to have you progress through levels increasingly choked with obstacles, all while a sadistic AI (or other players in FS case) mocks your efforts and encourages you to push the big red "GIVE UP" button. People are programmed to fight or to flee. The "flee" type will always be asking for a comfortable progression without any challenge and will flee anyway no matter how they will be helped, please listen to the "fight" type players and keep them in the game.

At this point just implement anything. This forum topic isn't making any progress, so why don't we beta test something in a completely different server or something ( I dont know this stuff works with the servers and such). Have a poll in the front page of fallen sword like the ones back when, when we got a little reserve stam for voting. Was it like 25 stam, I forget. Make a new medal, everyone loves medals. Base it on how much xp was gained or what ever. New items used with the same ladder tokens people have, people should still have some of those. Maybe even a new global that involves the pvp xp thing. Each tier increases with pvp xp exchanged. We need a forum topic that is all about ideas in improving the game not invoking anger onto others. I just want to play a game on my pass time. I don't know how coding works, I'm sure its easy and something can be whipped up fast and start from there. I want to go to sleep at night thinking about the progress we made as a community, not the consent badgering and name calling that is going on. It saddens me to see player whom play the same game hate each other so much. I don't cry but i do feel depressed and a sincerely wish someone productive can happen that will change the game in such a positive way everyone can prosper.

Every single one offers amazing examples as to why this entire thread is worthless.

#891075 PvP-Ladder Sollutions.

Why do others who don't participate in PvP want to continue to change it? I doubt half the people here who suggested a change would even participate after the change.  I'd rather have this current system than most of the things suggested. Every single time PvP has to be changed.  Leave it alone!

#890750 PvP-Ladder Sollutions.

Posted by yghorbeviahn on 22 September 2014 - 23:30

WOW, that's not what I had in mind when I first created this thread...

I really agree with BG on this, taking off XP Loss is really the final answer to all our problems of Levelers vs. PvPers, that will get rid of all PvPers, what will make space for Levelers do some kind of "PvP" without losing nothing more than 10/100 stamina.

Why didn't I think on this before?
With No XP Loss we can:
1 - Level non-stop to conquer nothing more than numbers, without interaction or friends.
2 - Keep killing old and maybe new Titans using codes, or bragging for having a better internet connection.
3 - Kill the Bounty Board for good, what is a ugly place to be, no one like to receive buffs, swing on targets, change gear and use his own mind to prevent attacks on his head.
4 - Finnally everyone will have risk-free Smasher and Dominance Medals.

5 (And more important) - Levellers will not have any kind of problem against PvPers, because I'm sure a LOT (if not all) PvPers will stop playing, I'm not a PvPer all the time, but for sure I'll be one of many that will leave the game.

-

You want to know why XP Loss on PvP is so important?
To add reason, communication, fear, risk, consequence, learning and, more important, Player vs. Player enviroiment, what you think will happen when you add this, lets suppose a scenario, will be easy to imagine, once the Rating Rewards become worthless what will happen? That will take like a month, after that every kind of PvP will die, all PvP buffs, all PvP Gear (2x more present than hunting gear), you can also take off Defense and Armor from outr profiles, because SSi can cover that on mob killing. You see, 60% or more of the game IS based on PvP, and that includes XP Loss.

If you want to create a SEPARETED Ladder without XP Loss, ok, fine with me, but keep the XP Loss (I would like to see XP Gain included as well), if you want to get rid of XP Loss, just add an autoplay, because no one will need any kind of brain to play this game, just gear up, get buffs and press 1,2,3,4,R.

When I was level 1353, not so long ago, I decided to partake in pvp and RISK my beloved experience to gain Prestige for that 10% boost. In the process that took 6 month, I lost 38 levels, Got 100 stam’ed on the bounty board, and got called a bully for hitting 10 stam hits every 3 days as suggested for prestige. For 6 years I leveled and have never took a piece of gold or experience from anyone. The last 9 month I have been portrait as a “bully” berated by the community. That’s disappointing how people and developers feel about pvp, coming from a person that only pvp’ed for 9 months this should stick to you all.

Get rid of Experience loss, be my guest; however, get rid of …

1. Honor, Bastion, Deflect, and all the other pvp buffs that come with it.

(be sure to replace them of the skill tree will seem a bit anorexic)

2.Bounty Board needs to go as well. Eliminate it along with the medals.

-(Every one how has smasher medal and bounty board medals losses them)

-(Be sure to reimburse all players that used stamina to attack others as an apology for wasting stamina, time, and effort earning what they have today.)

3. PvP potions have to go; that includes special containers. That Anti deflect 400 and many others are no longer needed. No one will need to use them to protect them selves since there is no loss in experience, why bother buying them. Just get hit exchange rating and be done with your day.

Ok, so to the part that you guys want to see. “ Why is experience loss important?”

Name a “pvper” that will never level. I bet you can’t name any, they all level since they lose experience and they want better weapon set ups to continue to pvp.

Now name a “leveler” that will never pvp. Im not going to name any one but you all know them and  many are going to respond negatively about pvp and they don’t know anything about it. So, now these levelers since there is nothing else they will do, will hit EOC then the demand for content. it will increase. Eventually we will hit the level 3000 barrier then 4000 (hypothetically speaking).

Leave both Leveling and Pvp alone. Focus on other aspects that will keep players here and give them something to do. Stop with the content 2026-2050 which is next, and implement something else. Try that coliseum thing that’s going around. Open a brand new forum about new things to introduce that doesn’t involve pvp or leveling, those things are ok at the moment. People need a way to spend stamina give them something new and exciting.

Like I always say these are my opinions and I really have no say in what goes on in the game. Do what is right for the game not individuals.
