Don't get me started  :o   A lot of sliminess all over!  I look at the Ladder periodically thinking oh maybe I'll do it now and then once again just see it littered with squatters who cry foul if you want to actually PLAY.  I rather not play at all than be bothered with that mentality.

Agree with you with you guys ladder levels can expand, but useless to do unless changes actually do take place.  Under the current system it will remain broken and a sham, as nothing to kick people into actually PLAYING the ladder.

Good luck DP!

I think PvP was, and I stress the "was", a good idea.....once.  The problem started occurring when some people found out how to manipulate it.  I have a top 50 list of the "old" PvP ladder from a few years ago (I even made 50 on it!)  Now looking at it, you're lucky to have even 5 participants, and it's always the same people.

Now, since I don't participate, 'cause at this time it's like participating in a game of Russian Roulette, I don't know how to fix it.  However it's done, it must mesh with the arena in some fashion, as both are based on PvP.

From my limited viewpoint, part of the problem is the rewards system, which as Deadparrot commented, have become dated, and have flooded the market.

My gut feeling is that PvP (and other game aspects) have gotten "dumbed down"  There is very little work involved in any of the early parts of the game, all of which is (I think) supposed to gather in new players.  A comparison would be starting out playing Monopoly with unlimited cash.

Saying all that, I like BraveKaths comment on jousting..  Is it/would it be possible of possible to incorporate some of the classic Arthuresque forms of combat into the ladder?  (anything else is just stab 'em in the back while they're sleeping)  And for Gawds sake, get rid of bonting from ladder hits    It's like running to the teacher because you lost playing dodge ball!

So that, I guess, is my suggestion, get a bit of chivalry into PvP.  I don't know if I'd ever be fond of it outside the arena, but I would be much more likely to try it in some other incarnation than it is now.

People just like to complain. About anything. I recommend not worrying yourself.

Trust me, I wasn't.

If this is regarding the OP (me), what a trolling comment.  Some people also like to improve an area of the game that desperately need it, and tries to induce suggestions via comment.  Now, if I were to get going on the Deflect buff, well, that would be complaining....or my wife's cooking....

To skepsis
...this isn't for everyone or every guild...this is just a promo to liven things up a bit in the FS world...to break the monotony, and to change things up a bit...not sure if it's going to work...but going to give it a go!!! An online all out GvG battle among other guilds...no ninja GvG's that weekend!!! And this is all in good fun ;)

I wasn't looking at the thread as a replacement to GvG as we know it -there is already a masterful post somewhere in the development roadmap that I happen to see when browsing   - I did look at the idea as a additive - they are going to rework GvG -and I am not opposed to arranged GvG's in addition to the classic option.

and will give time to guilds that don't want to participate time to opt out....

Hi Brice. Hi everyone.

Maybe just the guilds that want to participate must send an opt-in message. The ones that do not send a message, are not interested.

Speaking of opt-in, just guilds with a minimum member can join the event, right. Is it possible for a guild with less than 5 members to participate?

This sounds to be a good idea to leverage the GvG.

Thanks.

I quickly see this getting to complicated. should be true GvG by which i mean you fight with all you got at your disposal win, lose or draw. no limits on how many hitters per range. no limit on buffs or relics, etc. Rye/Chazz I know you have to agree with me here....We've spent 10's of thousands of fsp over the years hitting and defending GvG. Taking relics and burning pots and playing the patience game.

now dont get me wrong...I'm all for making sure ALL participants are online or at least defenders.(because everyone should be properly dressed for offline anyways right? wasnt a rule no epics? since some of us have jobs, families, etc that we have to inevitably walk away from FS for I'd say making sure defenders are online to buff members would be a must. )

I want nothing more than to challenge myself, my crew, my friends from other guilds and even a few people i really dont like....there should be no entry fee, no reward other than bragging rights and RP earned. after all those of us who do still GvG usually do it for pride or rp.

I like it in theory.  So I'll go along with a thumbs up.  It's going to need some fine tuning, but that isn't all that unusual.  The thing that is going to be the problem is guilds with only one or two "active" (and I use the term loosely) players.  And yes, I resemble that remark!

#868308 In-game Guild Merger Feature

*Edit- As for mixed guild chats.....isnt that why the cows introduced global chat???? so people in different guilds could communicate amongst each other without constantly PM each other......again...the option is there

My own thoughts, Dom, is that guild and global chats do very different things. Most significantly, a guild chat gives you a chance to interact with the same smallish group of people over a prolonged period. World chat has you dipping in and out with quick interactions with lots of people (well, it would if everyone used it). Personally, I don't develop friendships that latter way, but I do the former.

No

Zero reasoning because why? Elaborate. :D

As to the concept as a whole. I like it, but HCS simply has way too much on it's plate..... however as I've cited before, making a legitimate structured guild alliance system, in that Allies have meaning.

1) Allies are added to Guild bios just as allies are to personal profiles. It's an upgradable system via guild upgrades. With a cap of 10. (fsp sink)

2) Guild allies are on a guild manage system with a link only accessed via guild founder(s) on that menu.

3) Terms of the guild alliance can be set via checkboxes

Options inlcude to enable via checkbox

PvP hits

PvP Ladder hits

Guild Conflicts

Alliance chat (To be added with the new guild chat system)

Access to leader chat (a privilige obviously only handed out for the closest of allies).

4) Alliance chat would in essence be a seprate chat for guilds like leadership is. Now as guilds would have allies who aren't always allied, sometimes hostile, this is a tricky issue. But given the structure, it would have additional tabs for each allied guild for seamless interaction.

Note, given people can copy/paste PMs/chat anyhow and send to others, people mentioning things said between guilds would be no more at risk that it is now anyhow. So that is one key aspect I do take note of in an alliance chat that some might see, that to be honest would be done in the system we have anyhow to begin with.

5) The Alliance structure would be a higher upkeep based not on number of guild members, but rather the number of guild allies actively linked with. I figure you could call the structure something like Alliance Citadel With the icon being some mountain citadel.

Not sure what everyone thinks of these ideas to directly implement this, but I figured I'd whip up some ideas to have a half/step closer to what we're looking to have.

Again to prevent Jerky behavior it should be permission based. This can be just like having or not having GvG initiation permission.  You can have most of your trusted members with this permission, but new members that you're not sure about won't have the permission.

Hitting offline is pretty much worthless educationally and if someone made a habit of hitting their guildmates offline, they wouldn't have a guild.  I just find that whole notion offensive and slimy.  Sheesh SPARRING folks !!!!   Sparring isn't walking up to a sleeping person and clubbing them in the head.

Often when training people I have used cloak, switching gear, teaching them to understand what they're seeing and there is open dialogue and that's just analyzing targets, not being able to hit me -- if they could -- all the better!

Done SOOOOO much teaching online with players and received SOOOO much teaching ONLINE from others -- that's when the teaching is valuable.  If it's all after the fact the reality is we're not as invested.  Teaching is a dynamic dialogue of evidence, observation, questions and answers - when all those things happen - learning takes place.

If betting in this game were legal and anyone could hit anyone within their guild anytime, I would be betting how long it would be before guilds would be complaining that someone joined and used guild crystal and hit every member in the guild as much as they could and broke as much crystal as they could and then left the guild.  It will happen - of that I have no doubt.

If Joe Blow wants to learn PvP and hits Mary Jane and no one is there to see it and teach him ... then they can't know exactly what buffs/potions he was using and levels -- it all become worthless.

I realize MANY guilds do not teach their members.  I've heard that over and over from people that have come from other guilds to ours and when I toured guilds I found that there was no teaching and sharing of information going on in most that I visited.  Thus I understand that teaching is probably a foreign concept to many.  For successful GvG guilds (we were in the old days) teaching is typically common place, as it what makes them successful.

If this is just going to disintegrate to worthless internal bully-dom structure, then my vote is a resounding - no.

And I consider medals from this worthless as well as it would just be traded hits, so let's not even go there.

+1 couldnt have said it better kath

I dont think this is top priority but it is a good idea.

Now then heres where you're wrong...I'm not talking about arena style combats...I'm talking PvP/BB style hits....

As to why both players must be online....again this is supposed to be a training/sparring arena....a learning experience...chance for new players to learn from experienced player. How is attacking a guild mate while they are offline gonna teach them anything? This isn't a hard concept...and if done right could provide a useful aspect of the game thats been asked for by many for years now.*edit*- and generally people just wanted to smack guild mates and clear bounties on each other....hence why its never been implemented.....any type of reward will be abused and any loss would be seriously detrimental. It needs to be kept simple and used as a way to introduce players to pvp/gvg

#866696 Arena Tips - Arena Advice - The Arena in General

Posted by Brice on 03 May 2014 - 05:06

ALL RIGHTY FS!!! Since starting my other Forum "suggestions on upgrades for the Arena", a lot of players here and in the game have said they have a hard time finding tips and advice about the Arena. So I figured what the heck why not put all my cards on the table...step up...and help out new comers to the Arena :)
Let me start by saying I'm going to spill my guts and most of my knowledge but if your here just looking for a freebie Arena setup your not going to find it and I hope anyone that may post things here won't either, but all are welcome to post what they like about the Arena here. I only say this because I myself have worked hard building my Arena sets through trial and error, also, I find that this is one of the most intriguing parts of the Arena that you learn as you go and figure out how the Arena works. I will give tips and pointers on how to build an Arena setup ...at least how I did it and still do it :)
LETS GET STARTED!!!
WELCOME NEWBIES TO THE ARENA!!!
Basic Arena info 101:
So your interested in one of the best parts of of Fallen Sword(the Arena) but you don't know where to start or how to win one...well guess what...hate to break it to ya...but you will lose more than you will win and if it was easy there would be no fun in it ha!!! That's what I love about it...it's tough to win but when you do you will get hooked :D
BE PATIENT AND DONT GET DISCOURAGED
1. When starting out you need to be selective in what you enter...focus on getting all of your combat moves and enter Gold and Item Arena's that don't require them...this way it's fair for you and you don't need combat moves to win.
2. Combat Moves: you need these to be successful in the Arena...most important ones needed Pierce Strike(PS), Power Attack(PA),Crush,Weaken,Spin Attack(SA),Counter Attack(CA),Deflect,Dodge,Critical Hit(CH),and Freeze...the other combat moves are ok and you still need to acquire them, but these are the ones you will end up using the most. I suggest that you enter every combat move Arena available to you.
3. Types of Arena's to enter...you need to pay attention to what type of Arena your entering...if it has a check mark in the box then it's active in that Arena...example...Epics allowed, Hell Forged stats, Combat Moves...if it has an "X" in the box then it's not active and stats, equipment, or combat moves will not count.
4. PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT OTHER PLAYERS ARE DOING...how did they win...were they in an Armor setup or a Defensive setup....you can tell by how the battle plays out...every Arena setup can be beat or countered.
5. When entering a non-combat move Arena there is what's called the fatigue system,in which, after every 10 combat rounds your stats will weaken until there is a winner...if entering with an Armor setup make sure you have at least 61hps due to there are 61 rounds in an Arena.
That's it for this part...Best of luck!!!
