#866739 My suggestion on reviving the Arena

Posted by Tastria on 03 May 2014 - 14:56

Again, my newbie point of view.

If the arena was a store right now, I would be running around trying to find someone to wait on me, or even another customer. ("Gawd, it is SO good to see you!  Let's fight!")  This kind of inactivity also lends itself to the dubious behavior mentioned before, especially since a level ten, or a bunch of them, if they have the gold, could do a level 500 combat.  Depending on the rewards, it might be worth it. (keep in mind I just started here, I have no idea of the value of the items that could be won.)

What I really see now, is that the arena is as quiet as a funeral home in the after-hours.  This certainly doesn't encourage new blood into the arena.

My first thought on new comers thinking the arena was tilted in favor of more experience players was, "Can't these characters read?"  I always complain about the lack of decent tutorials in the game, but in the arena this is spelled out in short syllables, kind of hard to miss it IF you read anything about it.  That's not to say that there shouldn't be a tad more work in allowing the new comers to fight amongst themselves.  Just as an example:  A guildless player, or one from a small starter guild, is at a great disadvantage compared to a player who has many items of guild gear to choose from (I'm including myself here).

Rewards.  I'm all for rewards.  Medals are nice, but tangible virtual rewards are better! (an oxymoron if there ever was one  )  The current system seems to be centered on inventing arena gear. I've nothing against that, but it does take up a bit of your backpack, and if you don't have much space (9, count 'em, NINE chests!  Where the $#%@ am I going to put them before I loose them???) it starts to be a big problem.  Yes, if you've got the gold, or the FSP you can get more, but a newer player doesn't necessarily have either of those.  A reward of 1 extra stamina might work, and since it's worth 25,000 gold currently, it's not a bad reward. (Especially for an aspect of the game that uses no stamina :D )  It also doesn't flood the game with more gear. (The AH looks more like a rummage sale these days....)  A few shards might work too.

Part of the problem does lie with the bovines in the barn, and it doesn't require any coding, or any prizes (Grim, this is a FREE fix!!).  How about a tad of advertising in the various spots of the game once in a while?  By the looks of things lately, most new players come to hack and slash, and maybe use (shudder!) global chat. I went five years without having any idea about the arena (Thanks Brice and Yodamus!) and there are others out there, so a line like, "Have you tried the arena yet?  The newest participant is Goodgulf, level 8, who just won a flabble rune."  Of course this could be done for various game aspects too.

Just my thoughts as a newcomer.  I now return to the arena, to look longingly at the participant listings......

People complain when it's difficult, and people complain when it's "easy". Poor cows can't win.  <_<

Thank you for the event, HCS. I will enjoy my Ogre Blood.  :D

#866265 Players join a guild and join an Active Conflict!

Kath it's in the mechanics of the game -so there is nothing wrong with it as it stands.  You cannot punish people for playing inside of the mechanics of the game - there is no rules against it.  A player could literally offer themselves up in bio and fs box as GvG merc + there is nothing that can be done about it.

#865848 Starting a Guild

Posted by MSCruz on 29 April 2014 - 08:56

Great post!!!

When I decided to start a guild, the first thing I did was compare the costs and benefits. As you said, it is very expensive to maintain a guild.

My guild helps me to level up and to try things by myself. For exampe, I can defeat many SE and Titan using mercenaries. Having two spare slots is helpful when I am running out of space in my backpack. I can create two structures to help increase some aspect of my character.

That is not much, but helps me a lot.

Of course, without other players and a huge investment I cannot take the full advantage. But my intention was not to create a guild in order to compete with other guilds.

Now, a new player invited by me to the game is using my guild to learn some aspects of the game. Soon, he will be able to join a real guild. And as soon as I fulfill my goal I will do the same.

Just want to share some thoughts about the guilds.

Does this mean that we will get 16 total chests for top 100?

No, only one.

While it doesn't affect me, have to agree with the high levels as it's too bad they don't have new LE's to hunt in this (ie new gear) as we all like new, fun stuff to play with.

I'll be adding more next time this comes out. At the moment, I'm thinking about a brand new LE instead of shoring up an existing. But that'll come sometime after an updated Quango Adventures (getting there) and Storybook Forest (Not started yet).

Not even 24 hours in and we are close to silver! Keep going! I know you guys and gals can do it! :)

#865779 I wanna start a guild!

mentors, or anyone:

someone to whom you've been giving advice and buffs for some months has reached...say level 50

they seem to have half a brain and have a basic grasp of the game

one day, they send you a PM saying "i want to start my own guild!!!! It looks so cool; being a founder, having all those structures and members! What do you think?"

You close your eyes and sigh, take another deep breath...

what advice do you send them in your return PM?

#865662 "Skinning" Personal Gear - i.e. changing gear appearance.

Posted by gomezkilla on 28 April 2014 - 12:01

Very cool idea, and I love it! Though I would like to suggest that the costs could be gold related to create another potential gold sink.

Another thing, why not have something like this for the guild, like a structure? The gear is already "bound" to the guild and guilds could have their own logo or style for all their gear for each of the guild mates to show off.

#865737 DEFLECT!!!!!!

Posted by WWWolf on 28 April 2014 - 18:45

I voted to keep Deflect but only because remove from Bounty was not an option.

As others have said, it does play its role (however frustrating it may be) in GvG and Ladder.  However, if someone is bountied, Deflect should either not work or be halved.  It doesn't make much sense for players to be able to hide behind Deflect on the BB.

I might be willing to bend on Deflect being removed/reduced on the ladder as well but think that's all part of the challenge.  The last time I was on the ladder, I had Deflect on and was hit 6 times in a row.  It can be done.

I am completely against removing Deflect from GvG.

#862068 DEFLECT!!!!!!

Posted by DeadParrot on 11 April 2014 - 19:06

Seems Anti-Deflect doesn't kick in that much, if that were kicked up a notch or Deflect scaled back a bit, that would even be nice.

As it plays a role in BH'ing and GvG, granted a frustrating one when you're getting blocked by it, but it adds a challenge to the game though one seemingly based on luck more than anything else, but have my share of lost bounties and GvG because of deflect.

(Loss in GvG: drags on so long that one becomes tired & careless and miss something or things along that line, or losses due to you're returning hits and it's close to the end time and you simply run out of time, etc)

Clarification - I'm for retaining it for the challenge it poses, but as stated above wouldn't mind if it wasn't quite so effective.

Kath, Anti-deflect does work at the stated percentage as advertised.  Problem is, it kicks in regardless of whether Deflect kicks in or not.  So it's actually X% all the time, not X% after Deflect kicks in.  To back this up, I've the combat logs and noted that Anti-Deflect was activated, but Deflect did not -- or so it seems without a record of it.  Can anyone confirm or deny?

Deflect bites it in PURPOSEFUL pvp, ie. ladder and gvg.  It should be meant as a defense from baddies, hehe.

Thanks for the event 20 mil is high for ruby, but the nice thing about this event is the rewards are all same level just different quantity so missing ruby is not that big of a deal to me.

Only thing I wish would have happened was the addition of a few new creatures like last time. Nothing new means no need for me to hunt Le's as I still have tons of the sets from last year.

#865649 "Skinning" Personal Gear - i.e. changing gear appearance.

Posted by Pardoux on 28 April 2014 - 09:09

Firstly, let me state that this is something to be considered AFTER the current roadmap has been completed

I know it's been discussed several times and, so far, the idea has gone nowhere other than on the forums.

Here's a new take on it ...

For skinning to be viable, there has to be a cost - ideally an fsp cost - so that the ultimate result is more donations for the cows (they, after all, have to spend the man hours to actually develop this)

So, my idea of it is as follows (and the numbers can, of course, be thrashed around ad-hoc) :-

Implementation :-

There are 3 potential upgrades per item :-

NAME / DESIGN / COLOUR

Name would be personally selected (but with restrictions, of course)

Design would be from a selection of "template" image files (or, potentially, user-designed, within certain parameters - image size / format etc etc)

Colour would be from a 256 colour palette

Each upgrade would have an associated cost (see below).

If all 3 upgrades were done on a "stand-alone" piece of gear (i.e. not part of a set) then the upgrades would give a 1% boost to stats. This is, after all, more about personalising gear than making gear much more powerful - the boost to stats is merely another (small) incentive to spending on the upgrades.

If all 3 upgrades were done all pieces of a set, then the upgrades would give a 1% boost to the item stats AND a 1% boost to the set bonuses.

If any skinning of any nature is done to gear, then it automatically becomes "bound" to the player - and the only way to remove that "bound" flag is to remove the skinning (free) and then the items can be transferred / sold / composed / whatever.

Costs :-

The way I see it, the higher the level the player, the more expensive this option should be.

For players of up to Level 100, the cost would be 1 fsp / item / upgrade so, obviously, to upgrade 1 piece of gear with a new name, design and colour, the cost would be 3 FSP.

For players > 100 but < 200, cost would be 2 fsp / item / upgrade

For players > 200 but < 300, cost would be 3 fsp / item / upgrade

For players > 300 but < 400, cost would be 4 fsp / item / upgrade

For players > 500 but < 600, cost would be 6 fsp / item / upgrade

For players > 1000 but < 1100, cost would be 11 fsp / item / upgrade

For players > 1500 but < 1600, cost would be 16 fsp / item / upgrade

For players > 2000 but < 2100, cost would be 20 fsp / item / upgrade

Price would be capped at 20 fsp / item / upgrade – this seems fair to me as it’s the current end of the game.

Remember, this skinning is OPTIONAL, and has a (small) stat boost with it, so prices shouldn't be too cheap, but cheap enough to encourage the usage.
