#860048 Hiding Inactives From Top Rated List?

Posted by duktayp on 04 April 2014 - 03:48

the lame analogy i keep using is

when i watch the sports channel, i want to hear about *current* standings/events/stars

not watch stories about dead people that excelled years ago

--- edit: many years from now, i can see the the top-rated lists full of nothing but inactives

archive these players and put them on their own 'legends' list

Just my opinion. I could be totally off base. If it was open season on bunnies, I would have left a long time ago. You may be right, that may be good for the game not having a free loader like me around. No one knows for sure. This is where I think the beta server can prove who is right and who is wrong. Bottom line is we all want the same thing from the big picture. We want as many players as possible, you think pvp is the key, i think otherwise... who's right? won't know... beta would be a risk free way of proving it.

Chewy PvP is good for the game and benefits so many in the game due to the fact that PvP stimulates so many different areas of the game- you and I both agreed on this ' via in game pm'. The " Yin must compliment the Yang" and vice versa. When Hoof created Fallen Sword PvP was rampant - with far less restriction and many many incentives at the time. When HCS caved in and changed the game of Fallen Sword to address those who didn't want to par take in one aspect of the game ---- they lost 60% of their player volume over the course of the last 4yrs.

PvP stimulates our FS economy in just about every way possible:

1. People are more active - logging in more often to communicate with friends and check to see if their character was attacked or if a guild mate or friend was.

2. PvP stimulates the AH - As Players ( attackers and defenders in PvP) Buy and sell gear they no longer need. In addition to gear Potion makers are kept busy making all sorts of pots.

3. PvP - stimulates leveling and donations - as some level to get away from those who pvp and are dominant.  Donations are increased through PvP for purposes of buying buffs - and leveling etc.

Almost every single aspect of this game is stimulated by PvP - If we were to sit idle and remove PvP from Fallen Sword we would see this game die just as Sigma Storm did. Hoof had the right idea from the start of this game the only mistake was veering from this games Original format to accommodate others who didn't.

All this false optimism by players saddens me. HCS will only be further denigrating PvP with upcoming changes. Can they prove me wrong? They appear now to have made up their mind prior to asking for input. NOTHING is improving PvP. Will they stop there? The last half dozen "changes" have only conceded more practices to dumb down the game, evaporating what some players such as myself enjoy playing. We have asked for improvements for years, which has only led to disappointments every time causing the need for more fixes. Whatever their motives are is a veiled mystery only known to them. GONE are the days when players had real input, where players could exchange ideas with Hoof who would be asking questions and actually listening. It's what made the game successful and unique. It's why we have a game to play today.  All that is left is a dictatorial process searching for any semblance of better times and to rattle the donation jar once again.

I have personally seen a lot of radical idea's being thrown around for a while now, and I'm starting to think that they are not that radical. every previous update has left the game with less and less members and i THINK it might be time for the cows to pick some of the PVPers ideas and see what happens.

1. Deflect should not be removed from the game.

Yes, my friend, it should.  Elaborate if you are to make such an assertion.  Deflect adds an odd deferral effect.  To what end?

2. Either allow the counter bounties or don't allow them, I see no change in PvP with that change.

3. Isn't that just the ladder system?

Regular PvP, I assume not a special opt in.

4. This would be the best change to make to liven up the BB and possibly PvP overall.

5. Not sure what you mean here...

I'm not sure either

6. This would be nice. Game etiquette? No.

Game etiquette, such as don't taunt, or highlight the consequences of such actions, like a deleveling party...

7. PvP events would be nice to have. Would get a lot more PvPing in the game.

110%

8. This would be nice to have. Medal? No.

Why no medal?  Why no GvG medal?

I'm in agreement with Ryebred, a reworking of PvP, making it a more prominent part of the game, might be the only road to FS salvation.  Many leveling games out there with mediocre at best PvP, but not one like this...and for goodness sakes....FS needs advertising.

as ryebred has stated and i will restate now. I have seen droves of players mainly PvP/GvG players driven away from Fallensword. The latest idea for the BB has even more beginning to doubt their future in Fallensword. Some of these players are very influential to this game. Few have been around long before most claiming to need these changes. The fact is killing PvP is killing the player base. Believe it or not its true. I'm not saying make PvP a bloodbath free for all. But quit trying to nerf it. Havent us players who play pvp and spend fsp/gold daily earned a right to play the game as well as anyone else?

When you break it down PvP'rs are a HUGE % of the FS market. We buy more gear, buffs, etc than most levelers(who use shared gear bought by their guild). We buy buffs on a daily basis(how many levelers do this?), we buy new crystal gear constantly...We supply new gear from the ladder at the expense of OUR xp. We buy potions, donate, hunt to regain levels at the same rate if not MORE than your "average" leveler style player.

I'm sorry if you can not see this as feasible but believe me it is. Our guild is the type of enviroment where we participate in ALL facets of Fallensword. Some guilds prefer to shelter their members from the full FS experience...and then when players are 1/2 thru content and get smacked its some new awful experience. PvP should be introduced to new players. I remember i got started PvP'n because there was a quest that required PVP rating to complete. It taught me there was more to the game than just killing non combatant critters

+1 could not have said better...pvper's need to understand that this is not solely a pvp gme..pvp is part of the game...forcing it on players is why we have so few left...which has hurt pvp arena, ah, global events and more..we need players to stay  ..forcing players to pvp is not helping that matter..

That is speculation, and an opinion.  I've seen more players depart due to the decline of PvP in game then anything over the past several years.  I can note a decline with every last update that favors ease of leveling, and offers opt out means.  Look at the history of compromises made, and counterbalancing the effects of PvP through consumables - PvP protection; exp events, every hit being made subject to bounty, max exp loss parameters being made on bounty board (at one time there was no limit to loss potential), ladder arrangement (all players were in initially - now opt in), to name a few - and after each a steady decline in population.

I agree to disagree

The PvP community (if you will) is as much at fault for being willing to compromise in debates that proceeded these most recent ones - that side of thinking was always the one to cave into the notion of compromise - to actually hear what the alternative perspective was complaining about -and accept means of balance to overcome.  I hope the pro-pvp mindset never caves again -sit like stones to suggestions that break promises of the pasts.  The anti - PvP mindset has stubbornly always prevailed - never accepting an alternative perspective to their own exists - believing the ladders we have now are somehow the way it should be...

ok...WOW....um...

PvP is a part of the game...has been since day 1. That doesn't make this a PVP only game. There are tons of other aspects of the game to play!

BUT it is a unique game that does allow PvP and allows us to basically police ourselves.(this can be abused as ANY aspect can...the champion farming at EOC for guild xp is an example, titan scripting etc). HCS has given us fair grounds to return fire in pvp if someone has offended us. They've offered us a chance to punish offenders by placing them on a Bounty Board that allows others to extract punishment for you. And it doesnt have to be something PvP that offends you. Someone stole your SE? Someone snatches a chest from under you while you get your key from loyalty? then you can PvP them or find them on BB and handle your business.

As far as being FORCED into PvP? nobody is forced into it. So you were hit in PvP? chances are you had too much gold on hand OR you've opened your mouth and inserted foot and now are paying for it. There are options in place to protect your XP AND your gold(protection, bank deposits, fsp marketplace, etc). I am forced to level if i am deleveled. Forced to level if i want better gear(lets remove all gear lvl requirements so pvp'rs never have to level up <---being a smartalic here)

To sit and say that players are FORCED into PvP is ridiculous.

I've played other games where PVP is basically a joke and is only for bragging rights(amazing how few people actually pvp there) and I've played games where PVP is highly damaging(where 1-2 attacks can set back a years worth of leveling/building)....HCS has found a great balance. I feel that more incentives to PvP are needed. Nothing else needs to change.

Are bunnies - new players?  or are the levelers clad in sets with 15k att + 25k dmg (in mid 700's) the helpless victims or bunnies - where any sort of miss, FS, LD = your certain death & potential trip to board

I like the idea of promoting PvP any way you can pitch it - you'll find many will attack any post devaluing it for any reason they can come up with - yet with little to inject of their own to see it's growth or evolution.

There have been tons of changes to game that favor leveling faster; easier, and safer - yet some won't be happy until PvP is dead entirely - most could care less about betterment of game globally - they simply serve their own selfish agendas; often pretending they have intent to partake if more compromise suitable to them is made, yet it is lies - they are simple trolls to progress, and nothing is waiting on the other side of their rainbows for them - they are just too blinded to understand it.

All that said - I like your idea very much -wish you all the luck in the world getting others to support it & HCS developers to embrace it.  Thanks for trying mate :)

P.S.-sorry for negativity above - can't help but to be honest about how I feel

The problem, Windbattle, is that most of these "cheaters" are heavy donators and HCS wont destroy that bond they have with the heavy donators... It's sad to say this but it is entirely true :)

I don't think anyone has ever asked for all bounty hunters to be immune from being bountied...

There have been some good suggestions on cases where the hunter should t be bountied (1 being they COMPLETED the bounty with all 10 stam hits (maybe even with a set percentage of wins 90%+) to make defending relevant.))

The only other way a hunter shouldn't be able to be bountied is if they accept a bounty but never hit (like it used to be)

like the titan update...

dont care about pvp ladder hits being bountied or not.

BH'rs unable to be bountied? no thank you...bad idea...smashers run rampant as is...least we can do is return fire and drop em 5? how are we supposed to do that if we cant bounty them?
