Logic says it would be "Top Player" if you look at all the similar medals, but when have the cows ever used logic..

Do I think it needs to be changed? no, this is hardly a pressing issue and the game is on a steep decline for many other reasons.

Forum for Censorship....

'Best xp player' just sounds lame.

Seriously people, we're playing a fantasy online game, quit with the BORING utilitarian names for things, my god.

#954737 The Best Player Medal!

Sorry, my intention was never to belittle any achievement people work hard to earn. Have you ever considered HCS didn't think this one through and then the misnomer continued? So many years ago the game was much simpler. For example, it took a couple hundred levels before doubler was introduced and that was a BIG deal. The game has grown considerably in depth. If you want to hold onto the one metric that makes you happy, nobody I know is trying to take that away. Words and titles matter. I'd like to see the best recognized for actually being the Best Player in today's game! I simply proposed an improved metric, based on the way the game is today, to rate that designation.

I think HCS did think it through, and it was appropriate for the game as they conceived it and at that time.

Yes the game has expanded and grown more complex, but the core mechanics have not changed, and that includes gaining XP. Unless a new metric that is reliable and objective can be created to judge a new kind of best player, then I think the current metric should remain in place. I am not convinced medal counting is reliable or objective enough.

I have considered many other medals to be badly thought through and poorly implemented, and said so quite clearly in this forum in the past.

It is for precisely those reasons that I disagree that medal count is a better way to calculate best player.

If you question the best player medal, why not question all the rest? Why change the best player medal and then use all the other medals to create a system to replace it? That is not remotely consistent as many of those other medals that you would like us all to put our faith in as fair contributors to the new system to judge best player are far more flawed than the medal you are seeking to replace.

I simply disagree that using medals to determine best player is in fact an improvement.

For instance: There is a ceiling to medal acquisition (27 medals in total currently), so ultimately there could be many players tied for top spot, which is not really a definition of best. The current best player medal is a moving target, and only one player can be on top of the mountain at a time, which does fit the idea of best player better than a three or four way tie based on medal counts that do not expand indefinitely. The current system isn't perfect, but neither is the system you propose to replace it, in my opinion.

If you are wanting to encourage people to gain all medals and play all aspects of the game, (a fair goal) then maybe a different incentive is required to encourage that process, as I do not believe this is the right way to go about it.

If we believe that HCS put thought and consideration into their medal designations, ALL their medal designations, but still want to use medals as the factor to decide who is 'best' in game, why are we disagreeing with the thought and consideration they put into one of the oldest medals in the game at this late stage?

HCS decided best in game meant gaining more XP than all the rest. Their metric. Their choice. Nobody lobbied for it.

They made the decision to create a medal indicating best player in game, and they determined the criterion.

Nobody complained about it until now.

Why is this now, after 8+ years thought to be 'offensive'? That seems rather strong language.

Why try to redefine a term HCS created at the dawn of the game?

Full disclosure: I spent years aiming for the best player medal. It is not easy to attain. I had 2 years of strategy to get me in position, and when the chance arose I blew every in game resource I had to get there and stay there long enough to not only get bronze, but silver in one streak. I'm proud of that achievement. To say it is about mashing 12345678 is to do it a great disservice. Because if it was that easy everyone would have that medal.

Therefore I voted for XP as the metric for best player. It isn't easy to get, and HCS determined that criterion to be the one at the dawn of the game. Good enough for me.

Yes the game is multi faceted. Lets have medals to reflect that. We do.

This thread shows that 'best' is relative, and open to debate. HCS determined what they thought best at the genesis of the game - why now do players disagree with that choice whilst at the same time championing medals as the best metric to determine best player?

If you can disagree with the idea of a best player medal based on XP, and then propose a system based on other medals and pretend that those medals were well thought out and not without flaw, then why not accept the wisdom of the best player medal  based upon your own argument, which is that HCS obviously put thought into each and every medal. Therefore the best player medal was thought out carefully by HCS, and should be respected.

Respected like every other flawed, colluded for, bought, sold and swapped and cheaply gained medal out there, that should somehow now qualify players for best player under the proposed alternate system.

Medals are themselves flawed and untrustworthy, have been bought and traded for, so to make them the criteria for what makes the best player in the game is unreliable in the most forgiving analysis.

There may well be a better metric than XP gained to mark the 'best' player in game, but the solutions proposed are fuzzy and hard to pin down. You may disagree with the metric HCS put forward so many years ago, but so far I do not see a medal based alternative that is superior to the simple, if simplistic definition the entire game has worked with and accepted for as long as I can remember.

Have medals for medal gaining if you want. Ourobouros eat your heart out. But don't exchange one incomplete measure of what is best for another.

#954291 Update v2.85

Posted by Pardoux on 02 December 2015 - 22:18

I'm confused by that too. It's easy to work out if ALL of a players medals are the same "strength", but it's as clear as mud otherwise.

How does the multiplier work if, for instance, you have 6 x Bronze, 1 x Silver, 3 x Gold, 4 x Ruby and 5 x Diamond ?

Does it calculate the average weight ? - does it use the maximum weight give there are diamond medals ???

Any clarification, gratefully received ...

#954280 Should HCS implement a third additional Guild XP ranking based on activity?

Posted by WWWolf on 02 December 2015 - 19:43

Now for the thread itself. I voted no. Why? There are many top lists for guilds. Exp is just one aspect and not really that important. If you truly want to rank guilds it needs to be either 100% GvG or an average of GvG rating, wealth, and maybe something like Titan killing. Being a high level doesn't mean anything.

Therre are many styles of gameplay in FS.  It does not make any sese to ignore guilds because they choose not to participate in GvG or hunt Titans.  Guild wealth is almost pointless as it doesn't factor in FSP or gear.

perhaps its time to take composing up to lvl 70??

No more composing levels should be released until players can be assured that scripting is monitored for composing. It can't be that hard!

killer im a late bloomer on comp. a thought the guild needs a rank that keep track off players who go guild to guild to  help them keep their guild xp so they dont lose any of thier guild stuff an they can let them self s back in dont know any would work or not thanks

I doubt that would be implemented. Composers have to make the choice to either be a travelling Composer or a Guild Composer. They should not have it both ways.
