#914605 (Another) Titan Idea

Posted by Belaric on 10 January 2015 - 16:01

Just no.

All this distress over titans hanging around for ages...

So what?

They all, even good o'l Gurgriss, go eventually.

We have supply and demand in action right now. It is working. We have cooldowns that allow different guilds chances at secures, then all those different guilds get to wait until someone else decides to clear up the TKP.

Taking away hits once you have made them?? No way. Not all titan hunting guilds have the resources to withstand that kind of treatment. This forcing people to clear the entire titan or risk losing it. We had a thread about titans taking a long time and how to speed it up - this will not accelerate the process, this would mean that to be sure you'd need to spend 6-7 hours of effort on a titan to knock it out completely and be sure it won't 'heal' on you. How will that increase activity?

All I'd see happening here is that titans could survive longer on the board unsecured, which could effectively be a workaround for the cooldown. Say a guild is out for a week. the titan it took out respawns, but due to healing, fewer are killed during that guild's cooldown period (as it is clearly harder to kill a titan that needs more hits, and continually heals past a certain point in time). This raises the price of that titan item as fewer of those items come into the game, and ensures that the guild that can hunt them and kill them off in the time period allowed will earn more of the titan items involved. This seems to me to be an effort to increase control of the titan market, not make it fairer. Fewer guilds will be able to kill of titans in the window allowed, those guilds will dominate the titan market. So no - I think this is a bad idea and does nothing to speed up titan clearing.

Also - would the titan only heal HP from the guild in the lead - or equally from all guilds on a proportional basis? Could this lead to hits being reduced to zero? How can that possibly be considered a fair outcome? I don't think the mechanics of it work that well either.

And again - what is the problem with titans sitting unfinished? Is that alone not incentive enough to go finish it off if you are so desperate for the item? Obviously not - and obviously everyone who does titan hunt is prepared to be patient. Who is being impatient and why is the question that arises for me.

The game is small - the numbers online are not huge, of that game population only a small % hunt titans. Titans are going to sit for longer.

The ultimate solution to titan hunting is for the game to expand again. More titan hunters and more demand for titan items. I keep expecting the day to come when every FS player left has a full set of offline epics. And then you will see titans sit forever. But that will only bother the 150 active players left.

This suggestion, for me, does nothing to speed up titan turnover, and a lot to concentrate titan kills into the hands of fewer strong titan hunting guilds.

#914545 Selling Fragmented Fragments

Posted by yotekiller on 10 January 2015 - 04:55

The market price for frags is not the only reason this is a bad idea and not even the most important.  The reason frags are bound are so players wouldn't create multiple accounts to farm and/or collect GE frag stashes and then send them to the main account.  This would effectively give multiple rewards to the cheaters.  Broken down frags and frag stash rewards need to remain bound.  The cheaters and scammers affect everyone's game play, even if indirectly.

#913892 FSH Update 1488

Posted by Yuuzhan on 07 January 2015 - 04:38

PointyHair has done some work on FSH to make it compatible with the latest FireFox and the latest GreaseMonkey.

Chrome users can still use the following link to install the product:

In the spirit of PointyHair's work, I stayed up late and took a look at a few things and fixed them up as well.  Hopefully this is the first of many updates brought to you by PointyHair and myself :)  PointlyHair is starting slow as he gets his fingers into the code base and gets used to the system that we used (which of course in hindsight is not that simple to pickup.  It took me a while!)

I will be working closely with PointyHair to help get him up and running faster.  Eventually we will be reducing the code base as HCS adds features.

==Revision 1488 (yuuzhan)==
  # (major) FS: Updated to use GreaseMonkey 2.
  # (minor) FS: commented out a few broken functions.
  # (notes) FS: Thanks to PointyHair for these changes.
  # (minor) FS: Profile enhancements show again.
  # (notes) FS: Still lots of work to do, but we are still around.

As always, you can get the latest version of FSH here: https://code.google....lenswordhelper/

It is late, so I am going to bed :)

#912766 Artwork Error

Posted by yotwehc on 30 December 2014 - 08:04

I can't see where your mouse exactly are, but I believe that is over the Stun icon, maybe you confused the names?

Look at the Rage Icon... the red muscle man... he has 2 of them. This phenomenon also occurs with the pride buff. I would post an image but I can't figure out how to upload an image.... noob = me

#913102 auction house idea

Posted by justinian9 on 01 January 2015 - 18:08

I feel your pain... that use to really tick me off.  However, enabling players to see what another player is bidding on could really be abused.  Bidding on an item in AH is also a way to protect gold while hunting, allowing gold thieves to see what you bid on and when that auction ends would take away one of levelers ability to protect their gold.

#912936 What's coming in 2015?

Posted by Belaric on 31 December 2014 - 04:08

Nice Hoof, only thing I would say is take everything players say with a grain of sand..Self Interest has got us all into this mess.

I'd like to endorse this also.

I said a lot.

I didn't think I was being agenda driven, other than the health of the game. (But people most often are blind to their own prejudices)

But the point stands.

Player agendas have skewed arguments about how best to develop the game.

HCS staff do need to be wary of these.

Ask us - just don't rely on us! LOL!!

Be the adults in the room - nobody else is capable - we're playing a game!!

#912466 Annoying Arena Problem

Posted by bloody18 on 28 December 2014 - 12:10

Show a notification on a tournament when it has reached its guild member participation limit. That would take care of many headaches having previously been in a guild with many arena players. I wouldnt however remove  nor change the guild arena participation levels, for reasons previously stated above.

#912365 Can't crack the Nutcracker problem

Posted by Hoofmaster on 27 December 2014 - 15:20

There was an issue with the code that allowed the one hit on certain titans within the cooldown. This should be fixed now - apologies about that! :)

#912217 The Dragons Return!

Posted by Pardoux on 26 December 2014 - 14:47

in part got to agree with Rebornjedi,  games been going  7+ years now ( which in itself is outstanding for an internet product) and I have been playing for most of that , so much game related stuff being ignored in favor of frivolous suggestions that surface in world chat!!!!. last new buffs appeared at level 1600,,  an epic quest  has been in the cathedral of ways for two years and not finished , I find it hard to understand why , All this is contributing to a slow death ,,,  Wee :(

I'd have to agree with you there Wee. I know stuff is getting done - and it's nice to see that stuff is getting done, but cosmetic stuff does NOT mean the game is any better. Bug fixes, completion of items 1/2 finished, development roadmap, integration of the FSH etc etc etc - all of these things should be taking priority over something like a 5 min stam tick replacing a 60 min stam tick.

I love this game, and I try to remain positive about its future, but I sometimes wonder if the cows are as "emotionally invested" in it as some of us long-term players. I know it's their main source of income (well, I assume it is ....) but it needs to stop being seen as just an ATM and more like something they're proud of and want to see survive and flourish.

#912150 Christmas Gift

Posted by wil72 on 25 December 2014 - 22:48

It's Christmas time and HCS sent us a suprise,

I went to mailbox and couldn't believe my eyes,

A wee box was there and Chrismas is what it said,

For me? But I am but a ned,

Big pots I found inside,

My joy I could not hide,

A big thank you to HCS I must give, your generosity brought a little tear.

I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a fantastic New Year!

Cheers.

Jeez, I can't believe the amount of whining here - lighten up folk ... It's XMAS for the cows too ya know ?

Players wanted the eggs unbound - I suggested they stay bound - they became unbound

Now players are complaining that they became unbound so close to the end of the event ..

How can the cows EVER win ??

....

Not often I pop in o the forum as there are too many complainers.

I also would like to thank the Cows on behalf of the silent majority for their great gift and also for all their great work throughout the year  . :)
