#898420 What's really important in Fallen Sword

Posted by BigGrim on 06 November 2014 - 12:01

BG, we want to help the game stay alive.

I'm always happy for help. Constructive feedback is always welcome!

1 - Make the low level maps easier to walk by.
I believe they need something like the high level maps, 1 level per area, once you leveled you can travel to the next map. It's REALLY impossible to walk by the maps without Mowglik's maps or Wiki open.

We started that. I got to about level 30 I think. There is more work to be done for sure though. Probably up to approximately level 200.

1.1 - Create a new icon below the World area called "Realms". Clicking there another tab will open, showing all the realm with areas and minimum level to enter.

Not a bad idea.

2 - Giving tools to more experienced players help low level players.
Some ideas:
2.1 - Abillity to cast X buffs per day on players who joined in less than a month. (Without stamina use)
2.2 - Mentoring list like I said in the first post.
2.3 - Create 5 phantom spaces on each guild, where we can accept only players who joined in the last 60 days, after that the player will be kicked, or transfered to the normal players list on the guild.

All of those ideas seem pretty good to me. Would discuss with Hoofmaster and Zorg.

1. A mutual respect between the players and cows - we both need each other. Without players, they'd have no jobs and without them, we'd have no game.

Agreed. Generally speaking, I find our Community to be pretty bloomin' helpful and chatty. You have one or two who can't seem to be civil but that's true of any group. By and large, the Community of Fallen Sword is excellent. I rather enjoy the occasional chat on the GC, talking about both the game and general geekery.

2. Visible interaction between players and development staff.

RE point 2. BG is excellent in this regard - he is always active on the forums and, love him or loath him (or alternate back and forth, depending on what he says LOL) he does his job. Others, unfortunately, not so much so. Hoof handed over the development roadmap to Zorg and, as far as I can see, that seems to have completely stalled, with no interaction from him in eons.

Cheers. I do try to chat with everyone when I can and I find the feedback I get from the forums to be exceptionally useful in finding out what you all want. Regarding Zorg, he has been stupidly busy. It's not like he's just sat there laughing. Hopefully, he'll be able to make a serious push on the Dev Map soon.

grim indeed does one heck of a good job

Cheers. I do try.

it would be nice to add a quest in the beginning to use chat as maybe the first quest so they won't feel so left out

The chat shows up on the world screen by default, so as soon as they click World, chat can be seen. I've seen many players post in the chat before even taking a single step on the map, others wait to post until they have a question, and then there's likely many who don't post at all. It probably really depends on the individual as to if they feel social enough to jump right into talking to strangers right away. I can't see how forcing someone to socialize by using the chat would be a good thing though; some people are shy, and it might make them uncomfortable, especially when they're brand new and don't know anyone yet.

However, it might be a good thing though to display a notice regarding guilds, once they complete the tutorial quests. Something along the lines of "Now that you've completed your training, you might want to join a guild. Guilds are comprised of other players, can assist you in many ways. Look for a guild that suits you by clicking the 'Guild' menu on the left side."

There are many topics about what keeps us playing this game, and what HCS should do to keep the new players that trickle in interested long enough to stick around and become part of the community.  But, how often do we consider how much of this is our responsibility as well?  Tonight, while hanging out on global chat as I usually do, a brand new player came in and said "Hello".  He was warmly welcomed to a guild by a veteran player, generously buffed by another, and had lively conversation with us all.  I predict this player will join the ranks of the addicted as we teach him how to play the whole game.  This is what we did in the old days.  I remember in my first guild, helping my guild founder scope out the online players list for brand new players.  Those that went before passed down their knowledge.  Players like AzUK and Mowglik and Crace made maps and guides to help us all through.  The original USFG was Crace's creation.  It was an invaluable tool then, as it is now.  Anyway, back on point, we didn't have chat like we do now.  You had to have an IRC client to communicate in real time, or as WK does, have a Skype chat room set up for the guild.  We should be using global chat to welcome new players that pop in and encourage them, as we did this new player tonight.  It doesn't hurt us to give free advice to the new guys, and it can't be anything but good for the game.

#897526 Halloween Event Not Plausible

Posted by Pardoux on 03 November 2014 - 02:54

Well spending fsps to raise the score kinda puts a blur line between plausible if you mean cheating to hit the marker, though anything is possible obviously so maybe I should have been clear...it's not plausible with the current players in the population, I'm talking with the social breakup of the game there was no way with all the greedy people in this game we were going to hit the 50 mill mark so was it possible? yes maybe a year ago, but not this year too many good players dead.

ANYTHING is possible, if enough of the player base

1) Get involved in it

and

2) Do the best they can

We have / had enough players to do the 50 million - but a lot of players (and, in previous GE's I've been guilty of this myself) just do the bare minimum and expect others to pick up the slack. Sometimes that works, sometimes it doesn't.

One thing we CAN'T do is blame the cows for setting the bar too high - it WAS achievable with enough participation ..

I think 50M is possible. But as usual, a lot of people settled with 7k-8k kills when they thought the community wouldn't even have a chance to crack Crystal or Ruby. If they did at least 9k kills regardless of community performance then we would have reached Ruby. People have to remember that with these global chests - Emblazoned, Cut Ruby, Vampiric (even the Darksun Stash II), there will always be that "last-minute" rally. Most people with huge stam banks will want to make as many kills as possible so they defer doing the global until the last 1 to 3 hours of the event.

The question arises do cows really believe we have 5.5k active global event participants?

We know exactly how many active accounts we have in game, thanks.

#896240 Leveling... long time...

Posted by BadPenny on 25 October 2014 - 19:19

I have taken the scenic route in leveling, cuz I find it tedious and boring (well, I like quests).  I play a lot of games, and this is the only one with so many massive levels, and such quick leveling.  In other games, I am about average, and EOC levels for these games averages about 75.  Now, few, if any are as old as FS...

Many of those at EOC  have worked for YEARS to get there. Yeah, it takes time to get there.  BUT, there is so much more to this game than leveling.  If you ask me, it's only a means to an end, and doesn't make the game....

My level does not make me who I am anymore than yours makes you who you are.  Everybody plays differently, and we all feel our way is best.  There is no right or wrong way to play this game.  Just move along at your own pace, and please, for your own sanity, take a moment to smell the flowers every now and then...

#896174 Development Roadmap (Updated 8th September 2014)

If new players are the key then PvP should happen before any other additions.. Get rid of XP loss and watch PvP flourish..

#895880 'BLOOD' a possible idea for Grims intended removal of xp loss from pvp.

Posted by Trailman on 23 October 2014 - 01:20

About the PvPxp rewards

Potions are what we used to refer to as consumables use then they are gone in a very limited amount of time

Gear on the other hand is not. My opinion is that I am not adverse to gear being a reward but if so it needs to be crystal and have a very low durability rating so it is broken in a very reasonable amount of time. I also agree it needs to be bound to the person that invents it.

Instead of having resets how about you gain tokens as you level up, 2 per level gained.

if you are de-leveled you have to gain your levels back before you get more points (like vl now) should give more value to pvp xp as well.

On another note.... I was wondering, will there be a "virtual" PvP XP level?  So that we can lock our progress?  Or will PvP XP levels just fluctuate, with no permanent advancement?  The answer to this question could be important (at least I think it is).

I think the idea at present is that you have your Current Prowess and Overall Prowess.

Current is the Prowess you've earned. This will go up and down during the particular phase of PvP.

Overall will be the total from each PvP phase as it ends, added together to give an overall display of your Prowess.

Id obviously love new gear but i feel levelers may complain.

Um, let them? If they want the shiny toys earned from PvP, then get into PvP. Figure out PvP sets, protect your gold and build up your Prowess.

They will take other forms, probably even more aggressive because of unsatisfaction and frustration.

What, they're gonna be upset because they cannot adversely affect another players game experience? That's NOT what PvP should be about.

It's been proven a countless number of times that when emotions can't be burned with stamina something like this happens:

bio.png

That kinda garbage should be reported. Threatening people is not tolerated in-game. Threatening them in real life is not either. This is a freakin' GAME!

As seems to be the typical argument from yourself, your value is to be able to hurt another player. Where is that players value? Your "good feelings" regarding the game should NOT come at the expense of another's.

#894551 Here's what I think about PvP and XP loss

Posted by BadPenny on 15 October 2014 - 03:31

ABSOLUTELY INCORRECT.  They are the businessmen, entrepreneurs, and we are the (paying) customers (although any player is a customer, contributing to game's perpetuity).  I am among the paying customers.  The above stance is incorrect and misplaced.  The game would NOT exist were it not for the players.  No players = no one to develop for.

Now on topic, I wish we could leave XP loss in as it was.  Something has changed to make online numbers shrink, and since pvp and honour was prevalent in the good ol' days....???

DP

Interesting point, Deceased Bird....

I, too an a paying customer... I feel that if nothing else, we need an official thread, announcing what is exactly planned to be changed, and a timeline on it.  Included should be a list of what we can and cannot ask for concerning these changes.... All this endless debate is leading nowhere fast, and frankly needs to stop...  Like it or not, though, the "blood" thread was pinned.

Back on topic:

My thread is merely a suggestion.  It was mostly composed based on feedback I have gotten from the general population of Eldirath.  I don't purport to know everybody, but there are people who never speak here, and so I thought to pass their thoughts on to you.  The jury is still out on whether XP loss should  be in or out... The consensus is right at 50/50, and I don't see that changing.  Surprisingly enough, this is also scattered across FS "class lines".... Both PvP and leveling communities are divided in this....

Ideally, HCS would allow us as a community to decide.  HOWEVER, just from the tone of some of the posts in this forum, we as a whole are hopelessly at an impasse', which leaves it up to them to sort it all out.  Yeah, it's unfair, but, guess what... that's the way the story always goes... Sometimes, you just gotta hang on for the ride and try to thrive on the challenges...

Now, this is what needs to be done.  Our fearless leader, Mr Grim needs to lock all these threads, glean what he deems to be the best of the best, and post an official thread... Now, don't panic... We have all kinds of holiday festivities around the corner, so If I were you, I wouldn't expect anything but the occasional comment to keep order till after the first of the year.

Big Guy, when you read this, I've accomplished what I set out to do... The voices of reason have come here... I knew they would... Lock this thread at your discretion (not that you really need my permission, obviously)
