#894447 FINAL SOLUTION for BOTH parties

Posted by BadPenny on 14 October 2014 - 20:45

stuff

soft hits soft => soft & raw BB

in the soft system you will have 2 options to attack a player: "gold" hit or "pvp xp" hit

if you attack someone with a "gold" hit then you will be posted on the raw BB !!!

if you attack someone wit a "pvp xp" hit then you will be posted on the soft BB !!!

furthermore any gold loss from a "pvp xp" hit will be ZERO, only pvp xp will be lost !!! no gold !!!

I think this should against this: The biggest issue and exploit with the system being proposed by Doom is that people can go after gold with impunity.

meaning any attacks that take gold will result on the raw BB (to counter EXPLOIT / ABUSE)

PvP XP and gold theft DO NOT need to be separated!  We need a new system, NOT  a rehash of the old one

IT DOES NOT WORK!!!!!  WE ARE USING THE bounty SYSTEM TO BULLY OTHERS AND GET OUR WAY!!!!!!!!!

Not gold hits, not prestige hits.... hourly hits for no reason except to annoy and many levels taken on the board... For the regular PvPer, this is s.o.p.  However, for the standard "leveler" this is devastating....  These people feel bullied and are complaining... and the big guy has to fix things.  I don't really see this doing anything but exacerbating the problem... I'm sorry... I do understand your system... I just don't agree with it and I doubt I ever will....

This is the last I will say on the subject.  Please, take my comments with a grain of salt.

!.  Gold theft is planned to be left virtually intact.  BigGrim has no plans to make any radical changes here.

2.  You say you get posted on the VICTIM'S bounty board.... Now... the Soft PvP people will be the ones with gold, NOT the raw players... So, who are we stealing from?  Each other?  Again, this dog doesn't hunt....

3.  I've read your post dozens of times.  People are asking legitimate questions, and you only accuse them of detracting from YOUR THREAD.

4.  I'm not trying to be negative here.  I don't advocate the removal of XP loss, but I am willing to accept what is best for all, not just a choice few.

5. FS has had some kind of ladder system since jump street.  The first was very active, but was populated by a chosen few, who eventually got together and manipulated the system, shutting the rest of us out.  Enter the "banded" ladder... It has failed... Most bands are near stagnant, with many having only members from the same guild on them... And who gets 1st place on those ladders?  That's right, they're not SUPPOSED to get anything, and if they do, it's the first one in the alphabet... Is this fair?  I think not.... This system is just the ladder, renamed to fit YOUR idea of what we need.... I reserve the right to disagree...

6.  How can this NOT b e used to bully... A "soft" player gets baited into hitting a "raw" player... then we rip levels?  To me, that's unsportsmanlike and dishonorable, but mark my words, this WILL happen... Then, we're right back to where we are now, protesting the removal of XP loss again...

I'm sorry, but we need a new leveling system for PvP, not an old retribution system that still  takes our levels away...  I believe in risk and all that, but I don't believe in the wholesale slaughter of innocents... which is way too possible here...

Just my 2 Pennys

#894352 Open Topic On What Keeps You Playing Fallenswords

Posted by BadPenny on 14 October 2014 - 14:26

This topic has has really blossomed since I first posted here.  I've made many new friends since then.  And I've had a chance to reflect on what really drives me to log in every day.

In 2008, I separated from my then husband of 18 1/2 years.  I was on the streets  and went  to live with friends for a while, and when that didn't work out, it was a member of my Fallen Sword family that invited me to leave Dallas and come to Chicago and stay with her.  She is no longer here, but I will remember her caring and hospitality till my dying day.  If it wasn't so cold in Chicago, that may have worked out, but I was freezing to death, and after a few months I returned to Dallas to a homeless shelter.  I walked the 16 blocks to the Dallas Public Library every day, just to play Fallen Sword. The community was my rock, and I don't think I would have survived that time with my sanity intact were it not for my friends from Erildath.

When I got my new apartment and things began looking up for me, my FS family rejoiced with me.  In that time, I was unable to log in for an extended period of time... I have no way of really knowing if I was missed, but I have been told that I was.  That I was even remembered made me feel special indeed.

Then I come back to FS and we have a new thing called Global Chat.  Oh, man, how I love Global Chat.  Now I can chat with my friends in real time, without having to have Skype or MSN or Yahoo! Isn't that wonderful?

In September, I celebrated my birthday... It was fantastic!  The FS community shared it with me, and I felt so very loved and blessed.  A girl couldn't ask for anything more.

Week end before last, my sister-in-law was diagnosed with brain cancer, and my husband with small cell cancer.  I was able to feel comfortable talking to my friends about this, and the moral support I have gotten is phenomenal...

Yes, people, I love Erildath and each and every citizen, both new and veteran.  This community is an important part of my life. That's what keeps me coming back to FS day after day, year after year.

#894340 'BLOOD' a possible idea for Grims intended removal of xp loss from pvp.

So the reward needs to be good enough to entice PVPs and maybe attract new comers to pvp whilst not being game breaking. I feel the need to say ' New armour' but it would devalue the arena...etc. As long as there is no 'bound' items we should be good.

IDK, it all depends on whether it's gear, or something else..... potions and resources (like the ladder prizes we have now) should probably be bound... Gear, on the other hand, probably should not...

On another note.... I was wondering, will there be a "virtual" PvP XP level?  So that we can lock our progress?  Or will PvP XP levels just fluctuate, with no permanent advancement?  The answer to this question could be important (at least I think it is).

People people people.  This decision is not being made lightly.  Hunted Cow Studios is a business.  This rise in the incidence of bullying directly affects the bottom line.  I know that BigGrim reads these threads... He sees what we are saying... All this debate about a vote that is less than likely to occur is pointless and only serves to irritate already frayed nerves.  So, let's all take a deep breath and relax.  I encourage all to offer CONSTRUCTIVE opinions, in this (sorry Mary, not meaning to hijack here) or any other thread on the subject.  Bickering and back-biting ain't getting it, folks.  And let's stop repeating ourselves... The big guy knows how we feel about this.... He doesn't need constant reminders... He DOES have some semblance of intelligence, I'm sure he can remember this....

#893820 Here's what I think about PvP and XP loss

Posted by BadPenny on 11 October 2014 - 13:40

So now you want to eliminate gold loss and the ability to bounty as long as everybody is "playing nice" and only using 10 stams hits?  Then you want to award a bonus of prestige on top of that so people can level up even faster with absolutely no risk whatsoever.  This is insane.  Prestige trading will be off the charts and sunk gold will drop off a cliff.  Gold loss should be a part of every hit, bounty board should be available at all times and prestige should be earned, not traded.

How many actually use their prestige now?  I would bet it's a small percentage of the community.  Prestige should be a separate issue from all other PvP, like GvG hits are.  I'm just tired of coming in and finding that I have lost levels overnight due to a 10 stam Prestige hit.  It's something I did not deserve, especially since I always get a loyalty conserve pot before I start my Prestige run.  Again, I'm not trying to make radical changes here, merely throwing out ideas to make a compromise... I think that my ideas require minimal changes and will make a great impact to reduce the incidence of bullying.  I'm just trying to save my game.... Am I so wrong to do that?  Maybe so..... Well, I'm shutting up now.....

I appreciate your opinion, Jonathan, and I would like nothing better than to just play the game and not worry about all of this, but I cannot.  If you have  something constructive to add, please do so, but I would like it a lot if you  do not flame me for trying to help keep my game fun... Thank you for letting me share...

Never thought of that scenario, with me you either get a nice gentle 10, and we dance, or a rock-hard solid 100, and we box... there is no in-between for me... probably not for many others either, I would imagine ;)

10 stamina clears are free from a counter bounty?

Ideally, yes.... one should not be punished for doing one's job.

#893429 Here's what I think about PvP and XP loss

Posted by BadPenny on 09 October 2014 - 17:25

The reason we're looking to remove XP Loss is down to bullying and the fact that the loss of levels drives people away. A huge number of people care very much about their levels and to have them removed for imagined slights (usually they're playing the game as intended and others take offence at this). It is counter productive and as I've said repeatedly, there's been no real, solid reason for it to exist that the proposed PvP XP system will not cater to.

By now, people are discussing this issue all over Fallen Sword. This is a hot topic. I receive many messages about it myself, and I feel I have confused people about my views.  I hope I can clarify myself here.

I am appalled that my favorite part of the game can be used this way, but I should have expected it. Being a member of a war-like guild, I probably have been guilty of it myself, and of this, I am ashamed.  This is neither here nor there, we all play the game in our own way...

I have my own ideas about PvP and XP loss, and how it should work, and maybe this is a compromise we can all live with.... Here goes:

Let's start by changing the whole attack structure... break it down into it's 4 major components: GvG,  gold theft and smashing/ladder, Prestige and Bounty Hunting.

  • GvG attacks, self explanatory, no need to change anything
  • Gold theft and smashing/ladder 100 stam hits, Winner takes gold and PvP XP. Defender loses no regular XP... however, if attacker loses,  regular XP loss Bountyable attack
  • Prestige 10 stam hit, gold, prestige points, and PvP XP exchanged... no regular XP loss, non bountyable attack
  • Bounty Attacks.  regular XP loss for the hunted, exchange of prestige, PvP XP and gold... if hunter loses, only gold and PvP XP will be lost, if the hunter is using 10 stam hits.  Non bountyable attack...  In the case of a 100 stam attack the hunter will lose regular XP accordingly... Bountyable attack

I think this could be fair, and could minimize the incidences of bullying tremendously.  I'm sure there are flaws, Penny is not infallible, after all....

Thoughts, community?

edited for spelling and to clarify about bounty hunting

#893229 'BLOOD' a possible idea for Grims intended removal of xp loss from pvp.

@kitobass:

It takes approximately 35 100 stam hits to take 5 levels... Traditionally, at least way back when, it was common practice for a guild to get together as a team to delevel a gold thief, and to take all 5 levels allowed by the bounty board mechanics.  In my FS career, this has happened to me countless times.  There is no way to tell how many hundreds of levels I have gained and lost... A few guilds still practice mass deleveling procedures, for various slights, but  for the most part, the majority do not, possibly because they don't have members with the right PvP skills, or in some cases, even the inclination, to do so.
