#910261 Making Titan Hunting more Popular

Posted by EpicPiety on 18 December 2014 - 03:13

So what maps have you seen magic hunters go from one side all the way to the other in a second? A 2x2 square because last time i checked the speed limit was somewhere around 150-250ms i forgot which exactly. For the sake of simplicity lets just say its 200ms:1 step....Setting up a simple ratio leads me to conclude that you can move 5 Steps:1000ms. Most maps are say 15-20 steps so that would take say 3-4 seconds. You also have to factor in some people have better ping so titans will show up anywhere from 2-3 seconds before you? It may seem like a second or two but its actually not... They are abiding by the speed limit it is not possible to move 20 steps:1 second there are many factors that you aren't factoring in...

You seemed to have missed that line... so okay lets say it is infact 250ms:1 step...so that makes 4 steps:1000ms so 4-5 seconds from one side of the map to the other...Some people see titans 2-3 seconds before you see them reappear so lets factor that in lets say they can make it to the other side in roughly 2.5 seconds...You also gotta take into consideration you aren't accurately counting so lets +- .5 seconds... We are down to 2-3 seconds from one side of the map to the other.

Where are you getting this 1 second nonsense? it may seem like 1 second to you but its actually about 2-3.

#910121 A calling to the Community

Some good ideas here, but also this is a nice attitude towards new players Chris, this is one of the reason we plan to target some of the future updates at the very early levels and start of the game.

#909712 A calling to the Community

I've come to notice that many players are genuinely good people. They can recognize the struggle of another, and empathize. Many try to offer support, and often that helps new players more than you know.

This being said, Fallen Sword is not an easy game to get into.

The easy answer to confusion is join an experienced guild and they'll help you along, and frankly, that seems like a good idea to most because most have forgotten the learning curve that they experienced when they first began playing. Guilds offer great support for gear and buffs, but often don't give knowledge because it is much more difficult to give than just recalling some gear and burning some stamina.

I believe I read that there will be some type of mentor system implemented in the future, which will definitely help keep new players involved in the game longer, but until then, I have a request for the Community.

To the Communityhelp out new players that you see! I know it's a bit of a hassle and honestly maybe you are too busy, but if it wasn't from a player that is so random to me that I don't even remember his name giving me a tiny bit of help, I would be enjoying this game so much less.

Anyone who is reading this still, you know more about Fallen Sword than any new player does. You don't have to give valuable things like items, buffs, or gold, but giving knowledge is free.

Please, go out of your way to help somebody new.

Chris

Feel free to message me in game about anything, especially if you have any questions. I may not have the answer, but I'll do my best.

#909384 Double XP Event! 48h vs 72h

Posted by Pardoux on 14 December 2014 - 19:51

Either way in this discussion is fine by me, although there should be more challenge added during this event by making the xp taken in direct PvP doubled

Who's the challenge for there ? - PvP'rs can beat any setup as it is, so doubling the xp taken is no challenge at all ? - just means double the "pain" for those hit and a soft-clear on the BB for most of those doing the hitting ?

I see no challenge there whatsover ...

What everyone is failing to realize is that as long as players are allowed to use FSH, then there will always be cheating. And since HCS cannot detect if you modify anything in FSH, then you can cheat all you want and you will not get caught. If you want to remove cheating (or hinder it a bit), remove FSH.

On another note, all someone has to do is go to a book store and pick up a C++ for dummies, Java for dummies (ect..) and you will learn to manipulate what you want on the internet. So essentially, as long as you are allowed to play a game on the internet, you can always cheat. Getting caught depends on how good the admins are at catching them. And no offense, I've suggested a lot of easy things that HCS coders cannot do, and that is why cheaters here will never get caught.

I would like to see the Emissary LE critter and the Raggghza make an appearance, these two provide fantastic sets for the newer members to the game.

#908655 Legacy Roadmap 2014 Vote

Posted by Nastasha on 11 December 2014 - 13:03

These three would actually be very helpful for new players..

You are right, I completely agree. I never said the other options are not needed. However I don't think they directly effect player retention as much as giving players a "testing ground" for our gang politics. Starting brand new players as Rogue I feel is a huge step in that direction of letting them try things out a bit, then find a reason to stick around.

In truth one problem I do see with this idea as I propose it, is to be honest the gang symbols need a face-lift at the very least. The gangs as a whole are a bit stale, internally with the positions as well as externally with their visual appeal or lack there-of.

#908477 Upcoming Stamina Changes

Posted by cyrus7 on 10 December 2014 - 23:02

At this point no, because of everything Zorg has got it doing, it is not needed.

If this is the answer to "will it be an option, as promised earlier", umm... Not cool.  We were told it would be an option that we could change off of. Let me give you an example of why someone might want to leave their stamina gain as it is currently.

Time: 17:25

Stamina: 9,897 / 10,000

Next stamina gain time: 17:30

Stamina gain per hour: 100

Currently, a player in this scenario knows that in 5 minutes, their stamina will be as full as it will be without overflowing (9,997 / 10,000). They know that right before 18:30 (next stamina gain), they need to use 97 stamina so as to not lose it. So, the player can start buffing themselves for their hunt. The buffs will be fresh (don't want to buff previous hour, or an hour of duration will have been lost by this point), then they will get their next full hour's batch of stamina, then start hunting.

Under this "stamina every 5 minutes" plan, they would have to start hunting before their batch of 18:30 stamina comes in, because they would be at 9,997 and would overflow when receiving that 8 stamina. The hundreds of stamina spent buffing one-self would have to be used right then, and that's less accumulated stamina to hunt with.  They would then have to wait the whole hour to get the rest of that hour's stamina, instead of getting it all right then, and being able to start hunting right away.

I do this all the time.  Hope I've explained this good enough to understand.

I think the only reason some of us didn't push back harder on this change is that we were told by Hoofmaster that there would be an option in our Preferences as to if we wanted to keep the old way or use the new way.

We can add it as an option and default it to hourly for existing players and 5 minute intervals for new players. This means new players will gain the benefit from 'faster' stamina gain (ie quicker time between ticks) and players who have setups designed to maximum their stamina gain can keep it at hourly gains (new players would also have the option to change it to hourly of course). How does that sound?

I've updated the original post (and news) to reflect that the changes to stamina gain will be a preference (but the default for new players) to avoid any confusion  :)

I think adding it as an option makes it possible for existing players to continue playing as they have been used to got the last 8 years while improving the game experience for new players at the same time by making the reduced time between ticks the default for them.

#908445 Making Titan Hunting more Popular

I played other game years ago with friends, then we join to play fallensword together with other friends and one friend he was very good programmer, he using scripts for titan hunting, arena, gvg and other things and he never caught by HCS for using cheating

players reported him but nothing happen to him, he not playing anymore, he now playing other games with me and his fallensword account last time login saying inactive, NOT terminated

HCS did very good and brave job when finally remove multi accounts and ban some scripts from titan hunting but they leaving FSH

my friend who not playing anymore has bad internet and old computer but with script he was like THE FLASH

we play online games and he has high ping and many games he can not play normal because of his computer/internet

when he was cheating with titan hunting he joking say to us: GOD MODE on

he not using cheating script for composing because we had not composing at that time

he only had 28 AH slots but many items in mailbox, he had script for taking items from his mailbox then putting 28 in AH for every hour

he using script for gvg, I asking you playing other online game with us later after you finish gvg and he say: GOD MODE on

after we finish other game we come back to fallensword and he finished gvgs, he was the whole time with us playing other game

you talking about restrictions but they not working, everyone I know got message: movement too fast, friend from asia has 1mbit/s internet and he get message: movement too fast when he titan hunting

I titan hunting and I am not using FSH or other script but I get message: script detected, many many times and friends saying same thing about this message

You just knowingly admitted to not reporting someone cheating, which makes you no better than a cheater.
