#991079 Helping Veterans, help you

Posted by cucullainn on 02 April 2018 - 21:44

It's astounding to me. Just how many players at EOC who have been playing for 8 to 10+ years. That give absolutely false or totally inaccurate information. In Global Chat. To both noobs. Plus high level Players that should already know most of what they ask.

Most of you know that the pinata bat is in the Cathedral Of Ways. Half of you now that the items needed for the Halloween Global is in the Cathedral but sold in a different store than the pinata bat. None of you seem to know that the Egg Collecting Basket is Not in the Cathedral. It is sold from a shop in an area all its own inside the Springtime Forest. I don't know why that shop is in its own area instead of just being in the Springtime Forest. I guess the harder it is for you to find. The funner it is :P

Not many of you know. There are three invisible creatures in the game. In order to see these creatures. You must have the skill (buff) Reveal on you. Reveal is only available through a potion. There is a quest in which one of these creatures drops an item that's needed to finish the quest. Many noobs search for the Elemental of Paladir for hours or days. Before someone tells them that it's invisible and they need the buff to see it. The other two are the Pesky Spook (Global) and Free Roaming Vapor (Global) Seasonal Halloween creatures.

Veterans should be able to help players new and old. When it comes to doing the seven Epic Quest. If you invite them into your guild. You should be able to instruct players that they will receive items from one Quest that are needed to start or proceed in the next Quest. Instruct them that there are some items for which they will receive a recipe. In order to invent such things like the viper strike longsword. That these items should not be dropped because they are needed to fight a creature at the end of the quest in order to finish it. Such items being dropped will result in them having to file a ticket with support. In order to get it back.

I also cannot believe how many High level players. Who have been playing for at least 10 years. Do not know that there are 5 permanent Legendaries in the Realms at all times.

It's our job as the FS community. To be knowledgeable with the correct information. So we can inform not just Guild members, but other players. Asking questions in global chat too. There are many creatures in the game that require an Equipped item in order to even hit them. Not just the Seasonal Easter creatures. With the Egg Collecting Basket found in a shop in the Shoppers Grove area of the Springtime Forest.

If you are given some information, and can verify that the information is true. Please pass it along. :)

#990663 FSH 15.23.0 Build - CORS

Posted by PointyHair on 08 March 2018 - 11:12

Hi all

Huge thanks to clarechiu for reporting a bug that has lead me on an exception
handling odyssey. Since reporting the bug, which was around the classes in the
trade screen, I've built out exception reporting via Google Analytics. This has
been a fairly shocking experience. I've learned a huge amount as usual. The main
thing being that you folks are terrible at reporting bugs. Another shocker was
that we have a user still on Firefox 47! What I've done so far is implemented
exception handling for the main context. This has unearthed a whole pile of bugs
that I wouldn't have known about otherwise. Quite a lot of them involved coding
more defensively, trying not to make assumptions. Some of my earlier efforts
were reporting thousands of exceptions every day. Just as well Google can
handle it, if I was using a dedicated error reporting service such as bugsnag,
rollbar or sentry, it would have cost me money!

In this release I am enabling CORS which stands for Cross Origin Resource
Sharing. Sounds scary but actually all it means is that your browser is allowed
to report global errors in FSH. Basically, because FSH is an external library,
your browser doesn't trust it by default. In FSH we have many contexts other
than the main one. To catch errors in these other contexts I need a global error
handler. To report any useful information the browser has to trust FSH enough.
Otherwise you end up with 'Script Error.' instead of something useful!

Obviously there has been a raft of structural changes to support this and the
fixes for the last game update are still ongoing.

Bug fixes and new features:

  • intercept openWindow instead of modifying DOM (This opens the Quick Buff window in a more sensible place)
  • catch QuotaExceededError
  • improved error handling and reporting
  • safer jsonParse
  • Update Active/Wanted Bounties
  • Ajaxify Profile Sections
  • use App and cache for PvP Summary
  • Quick Wear spinners
  • Find Buffs uglify bug
  • improve jQuery detection
  • Titan Log - substitute Scout Tower with link
  • add scout tower link to Spoils of War
  • change SE log background check to 5 mins
  • Preference to move Daily Quest to LHS

Have fun and let me know if you find any bugs here

I'm hoping to get this released later today. I'll leave the previous version
operational for about a week for those of you that like to update manually.

#990613 Level 60 Composing with no fragmenter medal!

Posted by Belaric on 05 March 2018 - 17:41

Yes, to follow on from my Diamond artisan/no fragmenter medal ridiculousness, I have, after 3 1/4 years proved my empty point that you can get to level 60 composing without needing to break down items for frags. You just take forever to do so!! (I started composing a year after it started, and then on a whim decided to see how far I could go with no fragmenting medal, and here I am! Top of the world, ma!)

My thanks to WeeRapll and Lahona in my guild for getting to 60 way, way ahead of me and handling the composing duties for real while I fannied about on my pointless mission, now accomplished!

Now maybe I can do those DQ's that tell you to break down items...

#969455 Helpful advice on Global Events (GE)

Posted by Bluetail on 23 September 2016 - 23:38

I just thought Id add some tips to this thread.

If you have AM 500 you wont need LF obviously. But If youre using a high enough AM (high but not quite 500) and a high enough Conserve and Global Booster you probably dont want to use LF if youre also using Reckoning. If you use just AM + CON + GB + Reck, reckoning will only double your Conserve and Animal Magnetism. So your chance at reckoning doubling will be split between just those two buffs (at 192 this is 19.2%). This basically multiplies your Conserve by 1.192 (if you used the same buffs + Lightfoot its only X1.128). Take that difference (1.192-1.128) and multiple it by your Conserve level (at Conserve 575 this number is 36.8 levels or a 1.85% extra chance to save stamina when you dont have LF on. This might not seem like much but you need to factor in Global Booster (at X12 stamina usage thats 1200 stamina in 100 attacks- so you removing LF in this example would save you and extra 22 stamina per 1200). Even after all that, 22 stamina per 1200 stamina might not seem like much but you need to factor in how many tiles you would actually need to move during the GE hunt. Its a little harder to do but you can simplify it to moving when AM does not activate (this is simplified so you will move even less since creatures will usually spawn more than one per tile and when Reckoning hits AM it will always save the GE critter- making LF even more usless in practice). For AM 460 thats 8% of the time (so per 1200 stamina you will spend 8 walking). Multiply the stamina you spend walking by your chance of LF activating if you want to know the exact difference but in this example, even if LF activated 100% of the time youd still save 22-8= 14 stamina more per 1200 stamina used (or 1.16%) at Global Doubler X12. This number is still small as heck but Id thought Id share it for someone who wants to get the absolute most kills for their stamina, who also doesnt want to waste a AM 500 since I know alot of people also dont like to throw a AM 500 when the GE doesnt replace it. Remember the key is to use just those four buffs or the numbers will change even more (using FI, and LL change this) since more buffs split Reckonings chance to double conserve even more!

Again this doesnt work for all buff levels.

Another tip that will improve the kill count for everyone, regardless of buff levels is to actually suicide the GE creature (allow them to kill you when you miss- no imp or LD, FS, ect). This comes at the cost of your killstreak, gold and Xp so a lot of people will avoid this but its is still an option. You save stamina because when you 2% miss or first strike activates for the GE critter (like the elemental wraith has) you will spend X12 (or whatever your GB is) stamina to kill it (every swing uses as much stamina as your doubler dictates). On the flip side you only use 1 stamina if you let the creature kill you since doubler only works if you win. That way when you would usually use something like 12 extra stamina you will only use 1. This can save you a lot of stamina in the long run and as many of you can tell its how a lot of hunt if youre able to disregard your KS and gold to maximise Xp.

This will save stamina in every instance.

Can confirm that LF works. Just did a walk 300 tiles DQ. I bought LF and only used 277 stam and was able to complete the DQ, as it should be, with no issues.

Good thing I didn't spend that gold for nothing.

#987304 BotDL: 1st Guild to achieve all 5 GAs

Posted by Egami on 14 November 2017 - 19:27

BrethrenGAs.jpg

full BotDL load.jpg

Here at Brethren of the Death Lord (BotDL), not unlike other Guilds, we work together to achieve our goals.

Like most, we have seen great players come and go in our more-than-10-year history.

We simply played and watched as Guilds bickered over who was the best in one game aspect or other.

We agreed in the FS Forum, with many others, that the “number one Guild” in the game would not be the Guild that simply had the most XP.

We watched as HCS responded and created several so-called Top Rated categories for Guilds.

We’ve seen that so many Guild claim to be the “best” … in their posts, in their bios, in their imaginary thoughts of grandeur.

We’d seen, over more than 10 years, that all those were temporary definitions as Guilds switched rankings in absolutely all aspects.

And yet, little changed. “We’re the best” still seems to be a claim that old grandparents claim too based on… nothing.

We knew, and experienced, that all those “Top Rated” categories were transitory and did not, in our opinion, define the “Best Guild”.

As expected, no Guild in game has maintained any of those “top” ranks. Now claims that a Guild is the best, isn’t even backed by an explanation. Why are they the best? Because they say so? Odd.

We watched the discussions and always felt that a true “top Guild” should be involved in all game aspects. And while we were sure that, sooner or later, we could be the best in any, or even all, of those categories, we searched our souls for how we could prove ourselves to be the best Guild in FS.

And the question most evidently became: How can BotDL become a Legacy Guild?

In other words, what could BotDL do to avoid the “silliness” regarding temporary ranks that HCS had “approved”?  Was there away to avoid all those “egos” that claimed to be what they were not and simply avoid the argument?

What could we, as a Guild, do that could NEVER be taken away and put us, eternally, at the top?
It was obvious.

Not a single one of the Guilds in the top 100 “rated categories” have been able to do what we have now achieved:

BotDL is the first Guild ever to complete all five Guild Achievements. And so it stands, for now and forever.

That, in our opinion, is “legacy”.

It’s something that, unlike all the other so-called “Top Rated” categories, will NEVER be taken away.

Whatever comes to be, BotDL is the first to claim the title.

And grant it, we do hope that more Guild Achievements will be created. But that will be up to HCS to decide.

We wish the best of luck to all Guilds, current or future, in following in our footsteps (we definitely expect you to follow in them… Well, if you can, and this post, and our Guild profile page, shows that you most definitely “can”).

Prosperous smacking to all! (o0

PS: If you’re interested in joining the only Guild to achieve something that will unarguably go down in FS history as an unrepeatable feat… check our Guild History for details on joining. ,oP

EDITS: Added the images and link to Guild History.

Probably just cuz of the significance, but I think it's the prettiest GA icon so far, all centered and pretty and such. (o0

So...If your defense is higher than enemies attack he will miss you, if your armor + hp is higher than enemies attack he wont be able to damage you.

ALWAYS Look at enemies buffs and think how you could increase your victory chances or how you could decrease the enemies stats! When it comes to GvG, you can't rely on buffs that have a chance to work - You need solid stats. Before using any potions, Make sure to use Zombie Brew to increase you're buff levels, Brewing Master and Pride to increase their duration(Pride wont help much if you don't have many medals).

Take into account that enemies Enhancements will trigger and act accordingly.

NB! Green colored buff on this list means that you need to be careful with them, to see if they give you any bonuses.

#986907 FSH 15.20.9 Build - Guild Activity Tracker

Posted by PointyHair on 01 November 2017 - 20:46

Hey all

I just wanted to do some release notes for this build. I know several of you are waiting on enhancements and I've been pretty quiet recently. I wanted to get this enhancement out the door. It's been quite a mission to get done and the code has been getting in the way of other stuff.

So, the Guild Activity Tracker itself. You'll find a new preference on your Guild Manage page near the top. After you enable it you'll have to navigate to any page to make it start collecting data. It works in the background so you may notice an additional network request. I've tried very hard to keep the processing to an absolute minimum. There is a "Show" button, again on the Guild Manage page, that brings up the dialog that shows the data.

As you may have noticed I am trying to get FSH functionality to be a bit more interactive, using modal dialogs wherever possible to avoid unnecessary page refreshes. There is still a little bit of work to do on this but I think it is coming along nicely.

So, the why. Why did I build this? Well it's mainly for guild leadership. In this day and age of massive stam banks the 7 days in the Guild Advisor are wholly inadequate. There used to be a website that tracked this stuff, I don't know what happened to it. Doing it as a website would have been a significant challenge and the ongoing maintenance burden would have been a total PITA. So now everyone has the capability in FSH. It doesn't replace the Advisor, it is mainly focused on activity, stamina and GXP. The idea is that over time it will build a better picture of your members' activity. I had been copying and pasting the data from the Guild Manage screen for a long time before this.

So, the tech. As you know this is the most interesting part for me and the main reason I do it. The background data collection is using the new App API. This makes it more efficient on the client so hopefully you won't notice the hit. Given the idea of long term data collection on the client I have tried to reduce the amount of data collected where possible using data warehousing techniques (my day job). There is still a little bit of tweaking to do here, very active players have 1 record per day at the moment which is more than you really need. I've been learning a lot about CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) in recent months. The last few enhancements have been utilising that heavily. The Composed Potions Inventory, reworked Quick Wear and now this. Historically FSH has used the jQuery UI libraries that are already part of the game. There are problems with this. The version the game uses is very old, primarily to support a wide range of very old browsers. The code is highly inefficient. As FSH is only targeted at the most modern browsers I can use modern techniques to provide a more efficient and responsive experience. The Guild Tracker dialog is still styled to look like any other dialog in game however the underlying technology is completely different. It is totally based on CSS and has no javascript running whatsoever. Not only does this make the effect more efficient in your browser but it also makes it easier to maintain for me. I am anticipating rolling it out to other areas of FSH in future. You may or may not notice a new spinner effect when you open the panels. More likely to see it when you have collected a decent amount of data. I got it at about a month and a half. This is also completely CSS based. The beauty of that is that it runs independent of javascript and is offloaded to your GPU.

Anyway, hope you like it. And yes, I forgot to do the mouse pointers on the tabs. Next release ;)
