I have the Miner's Best Friend axe, and I am unable to chop trees with it today whereas I have been able to in the recent past. I get the error message that I must have an axe to perform the action. I tried with it equipped and unequipped and got the same result. The same axe works for mining and crystal cutting.

Maybe HC fixed it .
Me also uses Miner's Best Friend for Forestry , Prospecting & Crystal Cutting .

It was a bug that was fixed. You should not have been able to cut trees with a pick axe...

It's a one-handed axe though, and recent patch notes said one-handed axes could be used to chop trees...

There was a brief period where pickaxes could be used to chop trees. This was an unintended side-effect of allowing all one-handed axes to chop trees. It was quickly reverted in an update shortly after that.
